Great upgrade tool
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Although this was amazing to upgrade my computer, it was the same amount to install it which ended up being twice the advertised price project.

RUN AWAY FROM THIS DRIVE
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased a "ST310005N1A1AS-RK" Drive from Best Buy on 1/5/09 I'm not sure of the drive model now but it was something like ST31000333(or 340)AS . In October it started making a constant clicking and Blue Screened any computer it was put in. Best Buy exchanged it on 10/13/09. The next one lasted an amazing 84 days be fore it did the same thing. Onece again Best Buy exchanged it, but this time it had to be ordered. I installed the drive. Now (about 7 months Later) it has 926GB worth of data on it and is once again making the same continuous clicking noise. I am currently trying to free up drive space on other drives to dump my data to for the last time, I'm going to try to get my mony back and buy another brand, maybe even a smaller drive. I havent decided. Drive 1: Purchase online 1/4/09 picked up 1/5/09 Retail Kit #: ST310005N1A1AS Lifetime: 10months 8days Drive 2: Exchanged from Drive 1 on 10/13/09 Series: 7200.12 Drive M/N: ST31000528AS Firmware Version: CC34 Lifetime: 84days Drive 3: Exchanged in January 2010 Series: 7200.12 Drive M/N: ST31000528AS Firmware Version: CC38 Lifetime: about 7 months I used to be a huge Seagate fan but now I am extremely disappointed.

This Seagate drive failed after just three days!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just three days after installation, I was alarmed that this Seagate drive developed a loud clicking noise and ceased to function. My guess is Seagate does not perform adequete factory testing. In this day and and age, hard drives should not fail in such a short period of time. Prior to purchasing this item, I did research and did take notice of others who experienced similar premature failures of this drive. My thoughts were it won't happen to me because I'm extra careful when installing internal hardware and performing a "clean install" of Windows 7 on a single partition. Well, it did happen to me! I returned the unit to Best Buy (customer service was excellent) and exchanged it for a Western Digital - Caviar Black 1TB (Model: WD10000LSRTL). I have my fingers crossed!

Hard Drive Failure
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My experience with this drive was similar to another reviewer's - the drive suddenly failed after only 2 months with no warning. Upon investigating, I could feel the drive powering and spinning up during boot-up, but failed to be recognized by the PC. As with the other reviewer, I had the drive for exactly 2 months prior to failure. This drive was installed in a Dell Inspiron 530 as a second drive. I had no complaints with performance - while it was still working. I could not recommend this drive to anyone - based on two failures under similar circumstances with similar symptoms. The Seagate warranty replacement program also does not seem to work well with locations in Hawaii - i.e., although shipping back to the factory (for drive replacement purposes) is supposed to be free via UPS, the website insisted that "the service is not available from the originating location" - meaning that shipping costs from Hawaii were not covered.

Where did the Hitachi 1TB go?
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I started buying this one, because the Hitachi 1TB drive isn't stocked on the site anymore. Have had no problems with the Hitachi. I've had a couple Seagate 400GB wear out.

Do not put a Seagate into anything but the trash
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had a Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB hard drive fail after only a few months. Never having had a hard drive fail at this age (immediately-yes, multiple years of use-yes, after a few months of light service – no), I decided to research this drive on the internet. Unfortunately, I learned that these drives are very well known to have a ridiculously high early failure rate (40% or better by some estimates). Examining tech boards and Seagate’s web site reveals that these problems have been known to exist since early 2009 and are very wide spread. It appears that Seagate has handled the issue about as poorly as possible and (despite their PR releases to the contrary) refuse to provide free data recovery. Since Seagate refuses to directly acknowledge that they marketed a clearly defective product , it is impossible to trust this company or know if they have corrected the obvious design or production flaws. Unlike Western Digital, Seagate requires that you pay approximately $20.00 for shipping to have the faulty drive replaced under warranty. I will not put another Seagate hard drive into anything other than a trash can.

Short lived...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Segate Barracuda 7200 1 TB hard drive came with my HP desk top purchased less than 3 years ago. Suddenly, without any warnings my PC failed to boot, but since I've never experience a hard disk failure before I was a little reluctant to admit it -especially after such a short period of time. Finally, after running all possible tests I gave up. Fortunately I keep a good back up system, otherwise I would be miserable...

Great price
