Purchased this hard drive 3 days ago and as of last night (prior to me uninstalling it), it still hadn't completely installed. The "process logger" kept resetting informing me that it would take nearly 17 hours to complete. I thought since the drive was so large, that it was probably fine. Well after day day 2 and it had done this several times, I decided to check seagates website and check for any updates. Well, upon checking my serial number I noticed that it didnt match the number on the box and although the outside sticker said 1TB, the drive only appeared to have about 60GB on it. Needless to say I am taking it back and I havent decided whether I am going to buy another (maybe a bad drive) or purchase a Western Digital or go elsewhere to purchase one because the box and contents were completely sealed, yet the serial numbers didnt match?? How can this be? I am going to take it back tonight, so I will keep you posted if I have any issues.

    Firmware issue

I had recently put in a 500Gb Seagate and was happy with it's performance in my 5 year old PC. When my 80Gb drive began to fail, I bought this 1 TB drive. My computer does not recognize it. In fact, connecting it made my PC stop seeing my 500Gb drive. I called Seagate and they said they have a firmware problem and they could send me the updated firmware. The issue is, if my PC won't recognize the drive, how can I update the firmware? I will return it. I will probably buy a Western Digital. My only issue with that is, since I will have both a Seagate and a WD, I will probably have one more process automatically loading up during boot up.

bought one of these to replace a fail enterprise class Seagate because I needed one last minute. I bought it on Jan 9th, and installed next day. some time last night, the drive failed and won't spin up or mount AT ALL. It is an internal data drive (not the OS disk) in a Mac Pro. I've had better luck with the Western Digital Blue/Black drives (at least, I've had fewer of those fail than any other brand I've used. The drive was easy enough to install in the mac pro, so I guess that's a plus (but then again, any drive is in that machine!).

I bought a Seagate Barracuda one terrabyte hard disc drive to upgrade the games computer I had specially built for me several years ago. I even took the computer in and asked the geek squad the correct way to add it in with the existing hard drive which was full. I then took it home and added the disc drive as instructed. The new hard drive immediately corrupted my old hard drive which had irreplaceable files and games on it and corrupted my computer which had been working fine up until then. I returned to the Best Buy store and they advised they could do nothing except refund the money I had paid for the new hard drive. They checked the product they had sold me and indeed found it defective. I feel they could have at least given me a special store discount on a new computer or a cut rate on repairs as they sold me the defective product that caused all my troubles in the first place but they did nothing except refund the purchase price of the defective drive. The store did advise that I could contact Seagate if I wished but said nothing would probably come of it. As I rely on a computer for daily business, communication and games I bought another computer from Best Buy as the choices for computers are limited in this area. The new computer cost way more than I had intended to spend and does not work as fast as my old one and I now have a junk computer that cost me a bundle of money and had worked just fine before I took it to Best Buy in the first place... one would think they would back up the products they sell as they certainly send me enough advertising... I am not a happy customer!

Installed this drive in August of 2014 and by June of 2015 the drive died. Don't bother with this.

    Get the Western Digital Instead

This drive worked great for about a month, until it started clicking and clunking, even if the computer was idle doing nothing. I ran the seatools disc dianostic program from seagate's website, and it failed the full scan test, and after the test it sounded like nuts and bolts rattling around, so I quickly copied my music and documents over to a old 300gb I had laying around and returned this drive. I exchanged it for a Western Digital 1TB and just paid the difference in price.

I brought this hard drive back in June and just 3 months in, it crashed. I wasn't expecting this. Out of no where it just made this loud scratching and clicking noise and I was saying to myself "No way." I knew I should not have purchase the Seagate in the first place. Every since they purchase Maxtor, it seems like they went downhill. What a waste of $85. I'm sticking with WD and Samsung drives. Both of those drives have proven themselves from the accidentaly abuse.

I'm a PC tech (15 + years) purchased hard drive & installed for storing data, Immediately heard clicking, hard drives do this when they fail or are failing. Accessing data on hard drive is very slow. Took H.D. back for exchange...New replacement hard drive did the same thing only worse more constant clicking also hard drive has caused pc to freeze.. Researched & discovered this model has a high failure rate. I am taking hard drive back for refund NOT exchange...2 for 2 I will NOT trust this model hard drive with my customers data

Do not buy! This drive has problems!

I bought this drive a few months ago and it worked great as a secondary drive on my desktop PC. 24 hours ago i got the blue screen of death and can not boot to windows. After removing sound, video and tuner card I finally diagnosed this drive as the problem. When I went to seagate.com I was overwhelmed when I saw the known issue with this drive. The site claims "through technical analysis we believe the drive is okay as is" well let me tell you it is not. Seagate so far has stated I will need to pay for data recovery - We will see after the corporate office opens tomorrow...

When doing the research on this drive I knew that I would have to purchase the SATA cable but Best Buy said that the power cable and the screws came with the drive. After getting home, I found that the power cable and screws were not included. I went back to Best Buy and one of the tech on the Geek team gave me one from his tool box. Great and 5 stars to the store. I got back home and downloaded and installed the Seagate DiscWizard and then installed the new hard drive. After contacting Seagate two time via email, I got the system to recognize the hard drive and then I tried to clone using the DiscWizard and was never successful even after repeated emails from Seagate. I got the feeling that the Seagate support people were not even reading my responses. Finally I went on line and found AOMEI Partition Assistant software (Free) and after following the instructions I was able to clone my old hard drive. I only hope that Seagate hardware works better than their software and support personnel. I do not recommend this product and will not buy anything from Seagate again.
