Avoid this drive.....they are noisy!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this drive on an IT guys recommendation w/o looking at any of the reviews. After a few days it hit me that this drive never stopped making noise. So, just for yuks I looked at some reviews here and elsewhere. Wow! It seems that everyone knew about the problem but me...and Seagate. No mention whatsoever on their website, if there had been a firmware update or some other solution, I would have been willing to try it, but there was none. So, I decided to return it for a WD 1 TB, which I installed today. If you switch like I did, be sure to delete the Seagate (Acronis) SW before you install the WD (also, Acronis) SW (which doesn't come on a CD; you need to download it from their website). Otherwise, the WD SW won't work. Once the Seagate SW is deleted, it works fine, including cloning the original boot drive to the new drive.

For those with failed drives!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.1. Replacing Firmware does not always get your data back! Best case is that your computer will see a new blank hard drive. 2. If you have a failed drive you can now get the manufacturer of this drive to recover your data, if you are lucky you will not have much on it because they charge by the file. If you scream real loud you might get it for free. 3. Be prepared to wait a long time form the manufacturer, they are behind. 4. Other companies charges start in the $2800.00 just to look and see if they can get your data. Our bill for 3-1tb drives was $27,500.00, wish this was a typo! It took the company 5 days straight, 24 hours a day to recover 85% of our data. A 15% loss of data for us equals we do not know if we will survive! Oh ya the second company to look at the drives only cost us $5800.00, but they could not recover anything at all! Lesson: You will pay in the beginning or in the end, but you will pay! Also Cheap Choices cost more then you will ever know!

Do not buy this drive!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My drive had problems. First, it took 4 times to install my O/S (Windows 7 Ultimate) because everytime the system would restart, the drive would fail and tell me the O/S installation was corrupted. At first I thought my chipset couldn't handle the 3GBs auto-negotiation, but after installing the "slowness" jumper, the problems persisted and the Windows startup page would always show as being corrupted. I could ignore the "repair" prompt and boot normally, afterwhich the O/S would actually start, but if I ever restarted the computer, then I'd have to go thru the same hassle of power-off/power-on, ignore repair, boot normally, garbage. I googled for answers and found that these drives have a high failure rate and to stay away from them. Cheers to you if you get your drive working, but if you are thinking about getting one, don't! There are other drives out there...try Western Digital.

Drive Has Issues
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this 1 TB Barracuda drive to replace two failed Seagate 250 GB drives used in RAID configuration. Originally formatted drive (hours) and had to quick reformat drive because it did not recognize that it had completed formatting the day before. The drive is extremely noisy and always making racket while I wait several minutes for simple information to come up on my screen. I have to say that after many years of being a Seagate fan that I am a fan no longer. I am returning the drive to Best Buy and will be searching for another to take its place. I understand well that companies sometimes have quality issues with their hard drives; however, I repair computers on a daily basis for others and am extremely disappointed with Seagate. I would not recommend this unit.

If I could give zero stars I would
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I will NEVER buy a seagate product again this is the second hard drive from seagate that I got burned on. It worked fine for 2-3 months then it started acting up. There's was a 2 out of 3 chance that the computer will not recognize the drive (it did this across all computers I tested it with.) So every time it wasn't recognized you have to shut the PC down unplug and re-plug it then take the chance again to see if it worked. Now it doesn't even spin up, this P O S is a joke!

Failed within 14 months
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have three of these drives but 1 failed after 14 months. They typically either fail within the first couple weeks or years of use. This guy failed abruptly after just 14 months of moderate use without warning. I'm learning the hard way to be vigilant about backing up your data. In general, I'm disappointed with this drive which should have performed better. I'm trying a Western Digital Black next.

DO NOT BUY!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Seagate has been shipping OEM drives in Retail boxes. I've gone 4 for 4 dead now. In order to get Seagate to RMA the drive you must have your BestBuy Receipt, the original box, and about an hour to jump through the hoops on the phone. Recommend these only to people you don't like... Makes a great christmas gift in lieu of coal.

Worst HD I bought
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the worst HD I've ever owned. I brought this 4 months ago and suddenly one day my HD disappeared; only sound i hear is a clicking noise. This have been happened to many users. I contacted Seagate and they said it is not warranty under these circumstance. Their data recovery services would cost me minimum of $700 - $2K. Now i have lost all my family value photos. I suggest you do research before purchasing this product.

Avoid - Lasted 3 months - click click click click
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This drive lasted 3 months. Ane quite honestly I really did not use it that much. It was primarily used for data storage, not program running. It started clicking constantly and shutting down and starting up over and over again. Apparently this is an epidemic with these drives. Yes, Seagate will replace it but from what I've read, the replacements exhibit the same problems after a short while. Avoid!

Wasn't recognized at all
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I did everything, including updating my BIOS on my MOBO, which was over 3 years old. At least I was forced to actually get around to updating my BIOS. Zilch though in getting this to get recognized at all...not even in the BIOS on my KV2 board, which isn't the best board, but it should at least recognize the drive.

DOA
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Brand new drive purchased from Best Buy today. Hooked it up to my brand new PC and it won't boot. Disconnect the new drive and everything is normal. After this and having another Seagate fail in my 3-month old HP computer at work, I think I'll be leaning toward WD for now.

Quickly Failed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had this drive for less than 2 months and it failed completely and suddenly with no warning. It spins up but will not even mount so that I can erase the data and return it for replacement. 3 different disk utilities can not access it.

Failure
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased two of these for a Raid 1 array. After just one week, one of these clicked non-stop and would not power up. Luckily because of Raid 1 my data was still on the 2nd drive. The 2nd one is working, but will probably fail soon.
