This is a great hard drive. Used to consolidate data stored across several older drives. It is currently running on a Windows 7 Pro machine with a single partion of ~3.6 TB of usable space. There are 4 platters each with a capacity of 1TB which allows for a boost in performance compared to previous generations. Overall a great hard drive for an affordable price.

Overall this is great drive. Was running out of room the home PC and I knew that Seagate makes pretty drives. The only down side is that you get 3.63/4TB for the space required for software. Pretty quiet drive and fast. The best part about the drive is that I had Geek Squad install it for me and they did an excellent job. I would definitely recommend this drive.

Tons of Storage at a Great Price. Installation and setup was a snap and I was up and running in 30 minutes. Be warned though that if you do not have experience in this sort of thing that it does involve more than just plugging it in. The software side of things can be confusing for some but nothing that a Google search can't teach you.

I've been running 12 of these Drives for over one year on Three DROBO 5D's. These drives are very reliable and fast, contrary to the Seagate Barracuda 3TB drives that were horrible. I have three more 3TB Drives to Upgrade and I will be upgrading very soon.

I needed something bigger than 3TB to serve as a local backup and it needed to run quiet and not use too much power. This Seagate drive fit the bill. Install was simple and the Seagate software tools made formatting a snap.

I've been a fan of Seagate drives for a long time. When they started with the 3 TB, and now 4 TB, models, I was intrigued. Good performance, lots of space - just one side note. They're noisy. Lots of clicking sounds. I'd recommend these drives for backups that get used sporadically - not for primary data drives.

I bought this drive to replace a 2tb drive, under my program where I replace drives when I can get atlteast twice the capacity for $125-150. It has worked flawlessly since installed.

I first started off my purchase with a Toshiba 5TB because it was on sale for a little cheaper than this one. But it kept going offline within the first day and completely crapped out within 48 hours of transferring backup files. I do not recommend that one, but I do recommend this one. It has been working for over a month now without a single problem. Works as expected and intended. Buy it!

The 5900 (yes, not 5400) rpm spins up faster than my WD 3TB drive. Works great in an external 3.5" USB 3.0 enclosure (best buy's insignia brand one). It does have center screw holes for mounting in a rig, unlike the previous model that people on amazon say does not. (The fourth platter takes up that space, but somehow seagate managed to get it all there, now). There's too many horror stories on online sites that say the drive was damaged during delivery, so I went local retail for it.

I upgraded my Late 2009 iMac to 4TB!

I originally bought the 3TB size and then exchanged it for the 4TB size. At the time they were all on sale and it was a small amount ($20-40) for the extra TB. I have installed the new 4TB drive into my Late 2009 iMac (swapping out the original 1TB drive). This drive appears to be compatible with the Apple HD Heat sensor cable that was connected to the Apple installed drive (I didn't use the adapter kit that I purchased from OWC). I followed the instructions from several sources (OWC, iFixit, YouTube - just make sure that you are seeing directions for your iMac model as the internal layout and screw locations vary). After the upgrade, I went from being over 90℅ full to being less than 25℅ full. I have been running this for a few weeks now. I am not getting any errors. I am able to run latest (Developer Preview) Mac OS. Tremendous improvement in speed and performance due to increased capacity of the HD drive.
