These are great headphones, but keep in mind that you need to be in a confined room without a lot of noise to fully enjoy them. They are "open" headphones which means you will hear outside noise, and others will hear what you're listening to.

Great sound, well balanced, not too boomy. Bass can be overwhelming, but these are just perfect. Am replacing a really old set of Sennheiser phones.

Overall I'm pleased with the performance; bass response could be stronger. Every once in a while I get a 'bass flutter' going on in the background, I'm not sure that's the recording's fault or the headphones. This was a much worse problem with the Monster N-tunes these headphones replaced (about the same price).

I read headphone reviews for weeks before buying these. I was looking for something that would feel like an upgrade from my Bose Soundtrue. These 558s are outstanding. The detail and clarity is top notch. Bass and treble are well balanced. They sound good with all music I put through them (mainly alternative rock, punk, indie). They sound very good with iPods and iPads but they sound even better when used with a CD through my laptop. These headphones are well worth the $150 list price and are a steal at $100. I would definitely recommend these to others.

Nice price for a set of good, solid headphones. They might be lacking a bit on the high end, but the audio is crisp enough, and the design is pretty comfortable.

I'm certainly not an expert at headphones but I do consider myself quite knowledgable about audiophile quality sound. The Sennheiser HD-558 is a very high quality set of phones considering the blow-out price at which I purchased them on a BB Deal of the Day. As an incentive, they also included a 6-month free trial membership in TIDAL the hi-rez music streaming service. Can't beat that deal with a stick! As to the headphones themselves, they have a very pleasant and forgiving sound signature especially if you listen to acoustic (i.e., classical, jazz, folk) genres. While not as detailed as Sennheiser's upper echelon models, the 558's are great for hours-on-end listening sessions. I would also recommend the use of a dedicated headphone amp / DAC to further elevate their sound potential if that is within your budget. All in all, these are a great buy and might even be considered a "gateway drug" to the world of true audiophile level headphone sound.

Great headphones for home theater! Balanced sounds, not bass heavy. Very comfortable on the ears but the band on top can be uncomfortable if worn for a few hours.

I do a lot of computer music listening (mp3s, essentially) and video streaming and these headphones are really comfortable and sound terrific

These headphones are so comfortable and loud. I am able to zone out every noise and not get distracted when accomplishing my work. Love them!

Bought this to be able to listen to live recordings using the USB audio mixer and it is doing a great job! I don't mind the cord because I didn't intend to make this thing as my headphones listening to music while on the go.

I can use these cans for long periods even using glasses without any problem, the sound seems to me the best for this price range

I got these because I wanted a set of "nicer" headphones. The open-back design means that they don't isolate noise -- like at all -- you can still hear everything around you and people around you can also still hear your audio so keep that in mind. I'm totally fine with the open-back design, I knew what I was getting into with it. Comfort-wise -- these headphones are by far the most comfortable pair of headphones I've ever had. I can wear them for hours without hurting my temples/head.

These are very comfortable, pretty affordable and, most importantly, they sound absolutely terrific. I'm really glad I got these.

For the price, I haven't found a better set of headphones. These are not very compact for travel, but are great for home use.
