Comfy and Fantastic Open Back Headphones
||Posted .I own a pair of Audio-Technica M50s (which are both better than the Sennheisers, and more expensive, along with being closed back so I use them for different purposes) and I still find myself wearing these more often. They are VERY COMFY allowing hours of use. They also provide amazing soundstage which if you've never heard open-backed headphones you will be blown away. It sound like you're right there. These are also relatively cheap for how good the quality is, I got them on sale too. They are very good headphones, entry level audiophile is what I would say (true audiophile is $350+ range, yikes!) My only complaint is the cord is like 6 feet which can be annoying and helpful at certain times. The only other thing is the 1/4in to 3.5mm adaptor seems finicky, sometimes I have to turn it around to get sound in both ears, but it has never been a big problem. All in all probably 9.5/10, would recommend to a friend and buy again if needed.

Outstanding sound for under $200.00
||Posted .I have been a Sennheiser fan for a long time, since the 1990's. As always, Sennheiser headphones produce quality sound, and the quality improves as the price goes up. That is why I was surprised by the outstanding audio from these cans with a sub-$200.00 price. The cans are comfortable for extended listening, and the music is rich and full. The lows are also really full, and do well with my setup until the volume gets high, then they struggle. Having read many reviews on this model, I believe the low-end issue is with my setup and not the headphones. I am plugging the headphones into the headphone jack on my Logitech computer speakers. Obviously less that optimum. I am currently researching a good headphone amp to help with the low impedances reaches with the low frequencies. That aside, even without an external headphone amp and my current system, I would buy these headphones again.

i love sennheiser
||Posted .Went in wanting these but had to order them since bestbuy no longer holds these unless they have a magnolia center. Anyways, audiophile quality are unlike any other. Other brands arent that great as it is (beats, bose, soul, skullcandy, etc). Downside? Youll need 320kbps files at the least but i use flac or alac.

A Comfortably Headphone
||Posted .I loved to wear this headphone at night while sleeping & listening to music or video without interrupt my companion on the same bed. I rated this headphone as (5/5) after a period of listen experience by its acceptable sound output.

THE BEST HEADPHONES UNDER $200
||Posted .I love good sound. These were on a killer deal at about $80 for a daily deal on the app that I picked up on a whim a few days ago. I cannot stress how great these sound. On the box they are marked as the HD 558, which I have heard around town are some excellent cans at a great price, and I can now say that I believe the hype. I have been listening to many genres of music in my library and I am now able to pick out all of these subtleties in the music that I have never been able to hear before. The range of these are quite impressive, especially for anything you put on or in your ears that are under $200, let alone $100! The bass seems to be a reoccurring question that people are having about this set of headphones, and I can say that I am not a bass head, so I can't make a recommendation based on that mindset. I can confidently say as a person who loves electronic and hip hop music with lots of bass for extra goosebumps that this has pleasant bass response that doesn't hurt your ears or distort the sound at all. It's perfect for me in terms of the bass. I have only had these in my possession for under 12 hours now and I'm already super excited to break these in over time and hear the sound stage mature over time. These are OPEN BACK headphones, meaning that there is going to be more sound leaking out of the headphones than a normal set of buds or closed back headphones. This means that you will have a more expansive sound stage (with obvious sound leakage to others around you) that doesn't feel like it's being forced into your ear canals. This also means that the sound is more natural. I have had a set of the legendary Audio Technica ATH-M50s for several years as my primary set of cans for causal music listening and monitor headphones for my musical instruments and I can say with great certainty that these Sennheisers have a music more pleasant and immersive sound stage. Just the feel alone of the Sennheiser's plush velour ear cups going over your ears is an experience in itself. For gaming, it's also amazing! It gives a greater effect of "surround sound" when you're playing a FPS and helps to immerse you even more in the game and give you a better sense of character and audio placement in the world. I wore these on my head for several hours last night and this morning while trying them out and not once have I consciously felt them being on my head unless I thought about it. With the Audio Technicas, I would feel a definite level of ear and head fatigue after about an hour of having them on. As the Sennheisers break in even more, I feel like this will be much less of a concern, as they are lightweight, have great cushioning on the top of the head and the ear cups are great quality. If you're a fan of music or just want a great pair of cans for your use, I cannot recommend this product enough. It'll make you look at any other set of headphones under $200 with a critical mindset. Especially at $80, I'm feeling like these are the best and most practical deal that I have ever run across!

Great Entry Level Audiophile Headphones
||Posted .This is a fantastic set of headphones, the sound quality is so much better than a lot of the headphones I used previously for gaming. The sound cancelling factor is interesting, you're able to isolate sounds really well with slightly increased volume, but when you turn it down a bit you can still hear through the ear cup. It's a pretty handy feature to have and a bit of a hidden gem. Removable cable is a genius idea! If there's any negative thing about this phones, it's that the thick ear cushions sometimes can cause your ears to get a bit warm when you're using them in warm places but really doesn't take away from the great sound of this cans. Overall they have brilliant sound quality and are really solid in terms of both quality as well as craftsmanship.

Nice Entry-Level Audiophile Cans
||Posted .I'm certainly not an expert at headphones but I do consider myself quite knowledgable about audiophile quality sound. The Sennheiser HD-558 is a very high quality set of phones considering the blow-out price at which I purchased them on a BB Deal of the Day. As an incentive, they also included a 6-month free trial membership in TIDAL the hi-rez music streaming service. Can't beat that deal with a stick! As to the headphones themselves, they have a very pleasant and forgiving sound signature especially if you listen to acoustic (i.e., classical, jazz, folk) genres. While not as detailed as Sennheiser's upper echelon models, the 558's are great for hours-on-end listening sessions. I would also recommend the use of a dedicated headphone amp / DAC to further elevate their sound potential if that is within your budget. All in all, these are a great buy and might even be considered a "gateway drug" to the world of true audiophile level headphone sound.

My favorite for comfort and openness.
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed.I purchased the Sennheiser HD558 headphones to round out my collection, and they quickly became my favorites for comfort. The audio quality is very good, and these are what I would call "natural" instead of "fun" sounding. The bass can use a bump but has decent extension. Midrange is smooth and slightly forward, but it makes for delightful clarity without being harsh. The highs are detailed without being overbearing, but my favorite aspect is the wide soundstage and a sense of "openness". You can adjust EQ, but you can't adjust soundstage! They are light on the head, and the large ear cups are comfortable for hours. Although I bought them for music, I also love wearing them for long conference calls. They do not fold but I carry them anyways because it's worth it, but they are open back headphones and offer no noise isolation. This can be a good or a bad thing, depending on your environment. I did order the short cable because I do have a hi-res audio certified phone (32-bit/384kHz), and because the default cable comes with a 1/4 inch plug with a gigantic 3.5mm adapter. I keep the big cable handy for when I'm doing sound engineering. They have been durable, and after almost two years, they still look and feel fresh.

Q: QuestionCan you get a shorter cord (6ft) with the Mp3 plug I believe it is 2,5mmCan we order a shorter cord more conducive to listening with an ipod. Also can you get a cord with the smaller tip 2.5 mm I believe for an ipod. I know there are adapters, but I want to know if I can get a shorter cord with that adapter.
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer you can order the shorter cord direct from sennheiser, part #505638 . 4' cord with standard 3.5mm plug- 2.5mm would be the end that plugs into the headphones themselves, not the ipod (3.5mm). currently 12.95 plus shipping.

Q: Questioncan you get these headphones that work with a vizo blue tooth tv. so that all in the room can still hear the tv?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer These are wired headphones, so they cannot connect to Bluetooth. Further, Bluetooth is one-source only, so even headphones with Bluetooth can only connect to one other device.

Q: Questioncompares to...Hi, i'm interested in this product, I've two questions. Do I need a headphone amplifier for Ipod use? Do you know if there are other products woth similar quialty to compare with? Thanks so much
Asked by baader.
- A:Answer This doesnt need an amp to power it. I always use it with the smallest of all iPods (Shuffle) . Sennheiser always uses very efficient drivers which normally wont need amplifier. However there are few headphones above HD598 requires an amp to power them. It is going to be a very minor difference with an Amp till HD598.

Q: QuestionWondering how well they block the sound on an airplane. I don't really care about audio quality, just blocking the background noise so I can watch movies on a long flight. TIA
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer These are open-back headphones so there is no noise cancelling available. I can wear these headphones and hear everything fine around me still. Might want to recommend closed back noise cancelling.instead of these.

- A:Answer I may be wrong, but I believe the Tidal offer is only good for people who don't already have a Tidal account.

Q: QuestionHow much external noise reduction for these headphones (Steinhauser HD558)?
Asked by Gary.
- A:Answer Hello, Though these are over the ear, I would consider these open back headphones with the music can be heard when on. Thus, these probably do not block out all the noise from the environment. If you are needing complete noise blocking, then would recommend noise canceling headphones such as Bose and Sony. The price will be significantly higher though with not much sonic improvements. I hope that helps. Cheers.
