Comfy and Fantastic Open Back Headphones

I own a pair of Audio-Technica M50s (which are both better than the Sennheisers, and more expensive, along with being closed back so I use them for different purposes) and I still find myself wearing these more often. They are VERY COMFY allowing hours of use. They also provide amazing soundstage which if you've never heard open-backed headphones you will be blown away. It sound like you're right there. These are also relatively cheap for how good the quality is, I got them on sale too. They are very good headphones, entry level audiophile is what I would say (true audiophile is $350+ range, yikes!) My only complaint is the cord is like 6 feet which can be annoying and helpful at certain times. The only other thing is the 1/4in to 3.5mm adaptor seems finicky, sometimes I have to turn it around to get sound in both ears, but it has never been a big problem. All in all probably 9.5/10, would recommend to a friend and buy again if needed.

    Outstanding sound for under $200.00

I have been a Sennheiser fan for a long time, since the 1990's. As always, Sennheiser headphones produce quality sound, and the quality improves as the price goes up. That is why I was surprised by the outstanding audio from these cans with a sub-$200.00 price. The cans are comfortable for extended listening, and the music is rich and full. The lows are also really full, and do well with my setup until the volume gets high, then they struggle. Having read many reviews on this model, I believe the low-end issue is with my setup and not the headphones. I am plugging the headphones into the headphone jack on my Logitech computer speakers. Obviously less that optimum. I am currently researching a good headphone amp to help with the low impedances reaches with the low frequencies. That aside, even without an external headphone amp and my current system, I would buy these headphones again.

Went in wanting these but had to order them since bestbuy no longer holds these unless they have a magnolia center. Anyways, audiophile quality are unlike any other. Other brands arent that great as it is (beats, bose, soul, skullcandy, etc). Downside? Youll need 320kbps files at the least but i use flac or alac.

I loved to wear this headphone at night while sleeping & listening to music or video without interrupt my companion on the same bed. I rated this headphone as (5/5) after a period of listen experience by its acceptable sound output.

I have been using these headphones weekly for the last few months. Very comfortable and crystal clear sound. A bit light on the BASS and can be very audible to someone sitting next to you as they have open sides that allow the escape of sound waves. I use these at home, and at night when my wife is asleep and they are perfect for my needs. Even after several hours of wearing they are still very comfortable.

I have had Sennheiser headphones in the past and have always been pleased with their quality....and these did not disappoint! Very well built, very good sound quality and very comfortable. Price was very reasonable, since I got it on sale. If I had to make a complaint, it would just be that the cord is too long and had to use supplied adapter for smaller plug. Since the cord is easily unplugged and replaced, I purchased a smaller cord with smaller jack.

I needed a new headset as my previous one I had for years had always hurt over time. Felt like my head was getting crushed along with my ears. Ordered these and WOW! I can wear them all day. I've easily worn them up to 8-16 hours and it still feels like nothing is crushing my head, my ears or just feeling uncomfortable. Doesn't get too hot which is nice as well. Sound is also good too! It's definitely on the less bass side, which I prefer for gaming competitively, so I can hear footprints and enemy firing, etc. Which it does do decently at, whilst being comfortable. They're also very sturdy! The amount of times I pulled the cord or dropped them on concrete floor as been too many times, yet they work as new!

I mainly used these headphones while working at my desk listening to music or watching videos for long periods of time. I would recommend these headphones for its quality to price ratio. Build Quality 5/5 - The materials used still feels like as if I just bought them, even after one year of high usage. - The cushioned areas are made out of fabric so it will collect dust easily, but I haven't had any problems with them tearing up or anything yet. - A very sturdy pair of headphones, I can trust these to last quite some time. Sound Quality 4/5 - All sounds are crisp and clear in stereo when watching a movie, listening to music, or playing games for its price range. - These are open-back headphones so sound will leak out and is easily audible. - These headphones are not bass heavy so if your looking for something with a good amount of bass look else wear. Comfort 4/5 - The ear cuffs fit perfectly around my ear without causing any unwanted pressure, and its very comfortable to wear even with glasses on. - The overall headphones are lightweight and grasp the head firmly. - The audio cable sticks downward from the left headphone which can get slightly annoying, but it's not that big of a deal. - Ive used these headphones for 8-10 hours per session, after about 5-6 hours I start to get fatigued around the ear and it gets slightly warm and itchy.

Great pair of headphones, only required a cord replacement (original tangled too easily) to be close to perfect. Excellent sound quality, vastly superior to Beats. Very comfortable, surprisingly light for their size. I frequently think headphones are too tight and painful, but these are perfect.

I had a favorite pair of headphones that finally needed to be retired. Like a comfortable recliner difficult to replace, none of my research seemed to help. After more than a dozen auditions of various brands and models, I finally heard the Sennheiser HD588 and WOW! Comfortable, and a great fit, since I have a large head, and the sound was perfect! Tight, solid base but not overbearing. Mid-range vocals crystal clear, and great - not fatiguing highs. Strong, tight, sound. I couldn't be happier. Highly recommended!

After years of closed back headphones the sound signature of the 558's are open,as though the music comes from around your head rather directly into your ears.Initially you miss the bass, but soon realize that quality easily out weighs quantity that usually makes the music in the upper register. The most notable part of owning these headphones is the comfort of the ear pads and the way they totally surround your ears with out it becoming hot or sticky, albeit having a 10 feet long cord does inevitably end up with it being entangled around your feet when using an iPad or iPhone.Having said that you readily hear the level of detail from the source.I also use them with a Dragonfly DAC with my Chromebook and straight out of my receiver with which they up their sonic abilities, and at the ridiculous low price that they are available it is a great deal.Highly recommended.

    Best Headphone Without Amp

This is possibly the best headphone without the requirement of an amplifier. I am not, however, ignoring the existence of HD 598 or 599, which are obviously better. I am saying this because the quality difference between HD 558 and 598 are not as significant as the price difference, especially after doing the foam mod for the HD 558. The sound is very typical Sennheiser with a generally flat response. These are perfect for Classical music, Jazz music, and movie watching. The highs are very clear and crispy, the mids are not standing out, which I would say as the drawback of this headphone. The bass is not heavy, but it is a little muddy as it appears to me. Soundstage is good, clarity is also ok given its price. If you have EQ, maybe adjust the mids and highs by just a tiny little bit. The wires are very long and inconvenient, so a replacement wire is recommended.

These headphones provide a very clean sound with great separation and no distortion - even at louder volumes. They are comfortable and don't squish your ears. My only mild grip is the bass falls off at the lower end, but this is a limitation with any headphone.

Highs are crisp and clear. Lows are not so great. Bass is much better with a amplifier. It has an open back design, and the ear cups are very comfortable. Definitely worth it on sale, but at full price, I wouldn’t be so enthusiastic.

The headphones have great sound and very comfortable to wear for long periods. The cord is long, heavy and connector is bulky. An extra smaller, lighter cable would be great to have. There is no case or bag for storage that most other headphones supply.

Bought these while on sale and used $20 awards for these. I was looking for headphones for ~$100, got these for $99 (MSRP 189) and couldn't be happier. In fact my wife likes them so much that had to buy her a set (ended up costing me more because were not at the lower price and no award points available. If spending $100 need to get these. I would of given these a 4 star becasue the cord is way to long, but the cord unplugs from the headset and a shorter cord can be ordered.

These are about the most comfortable headphones I've ever owned. They're BIG and leave plenty of room around the ears. The foam keeps your head from getting too warm, but it still happens if you're wearing them for hours at a time. These are open back so they let in (and to some degree out) noise, which is good if you need to be able to hear yourself being called for dinner. NOT a good idea for airplane rides, but they produce plenty of volume so its not like you're going to hear most stuff going on around you. Sound is great. Feels very open and clear. I'd say its pretty neutral, not real heavy in any particular spectrum, but I've mostly used them for gaming and not music listening.

What do you want from your headphones?

I use 3 different headphones on a regular basis. This is my most used pair, and I use it almost daily on my computer. The good: 1) Phenomenal sound. Really, the sound quality of these headphones is top notch. I'm sure you can pay hundreds more for some moderately better sound, but for the price, these headphones cannot be beaten. They do a more than adequate job of presenting you the music as it was intended to be heard. It's great for listening to literally any type of music. 2) Comfort - these are, by far, the most comfortable headphones I have ever used. I wear glasses, and use headphones sometimes hours on end (for class) and these are easily the most comfortable headphones I own. The bad: 1) The biggest negative is that this is "just" a pair of headphones. They do not have a microphone, so they are not something I use with my phone at all. 2) The cord that comes with these headphones is ridiculously long and comes with a (I believe) 6.35 mm jack, which doesn't fit most modern devices. The jack does come with a 3.5 mm connector piece which works, but it looks pretty funky. 3) There is some audio leakage. What that means is that if I were to wear these headphones in a noisy area they would not cancel out much of the noise, and other people would probably be able to hear what I'm listening to. For me, that's not a big deal because I use these exclusively on my computer - but that might be a deal breaker for some people. So, what I did was I purchased another audio cord which is shorter & does not require an additional piece to fit a 3.5mm jack (this is not hard to find or very expensive) and the problems with the cord length & size are mitigated. I really love these headphones - the amazing sound and comfort really trumps all else for me. If you have to have a microphone, or if you don't want to spend a few more dollars for another cord, you should look elsewhere, but otherwise I cannot recommend these headphones highly enough.

Hands down the best pair of headphones I have used. I upgraded my older HD 203s with these, and WOW what a change. I like these over my v-moda lp2, and my klipsch mode. The sound is rich and full, there is just enough low end, and everything is clean and clear. I have worn these for several hours on end from gaming to music and even plugging into an amp to play my bass. Only downside is the stock cord has to use an adapter to plug into 3.5mm jacks (which is supplied). You can buy a shorter cord from Sennheiser direct for under 20.
