I purchased these headphones in order to have a set that was compact enough for me to pack in my knapsack when I traveled by air. These fit the bill well. They are not as small as some others (such as the Sennheiser PX 100), but they will be suitable for travel. I have a pretty noticeable hearing loss and these provide excellent sound. I have only had them for a week, so can say nothing about their sturdiness.

These are good headphones. Sound quality is good, rather honest, with no enhanced bass.

I purchased the Sennheiser HD558 headphones to round out my collection, and they quickly became my favorites for comfort. The audio quality is very good, and these are what I would call "natural" instead of "fun" sounding. The bass can use a bump but has decent extension. Midrange is smooth and slightly forward, but it makes for delightful clarity without being harsh. The highs are detailed without being overbearing, but my favorite aspect is the wide soundstage and a sense of "openness". You can adjust EQ, but you can't adjust soundstage! They are light on the head, and the large ear cups are comfortable for hours. Although I bought them for music, I also love wearing them for long conference calls. They do not fold but I carry them anyways because it's worth it, but they are open back headphones and offer no noise isolation. This can be a good or a bad thing, depending on your environment. I did order the short cable because I do have a hi-res audio certified phone (32-bit/384kHz), and because the default cable comes with a 1/4 inch plug with a gigantic 3.5mm adapter. I keep the big cable handy for when I'm doing sound engineering. They have been durable, and after almost two years, they still look and feel fresh.

This is my first set of Sennheiser headphones and I must say, they are terrific! They handle base really good and treble ranges also. And for the price, they can't be beat!

Not bass heavy but in a good way. Don't buy beats. I like these very much. Lightweight and comfortable.

I read about these headphones after seeing the price on Best Buy. Excellent sound when listening to music. I hear small nuances in the music on songs I have heard many times before. When listening to movies the depth is amazing, like I am in the center of the movie. I have over 40% hearing loss in both ears, so I can only imagine how good these sound to a pair of good ears!!!

I have always bought Sennheiser headphones and have had a pair of 201's for many years. Best Buy had a great sale on the 558's and I couldn't resist. What great sound. I am developing a hearing loss and it more than makes up for it. I can't believe how great they are. Thanks Best Buy and Sennheiser.

The only thing that I like Better than these headphones are the on sale price from Best Buy, $69 for a headphone that's usually $159. The Sennheiser HD558 headphones are Wonderful. BIG over the ear cups, and the BEST sound ever. I also love that they have a replaceable cord, because that's what usually goes wrong with any headphones. Thanks Best Buy, and Sennheiser.
