Customers are delighted by the excellent sound quality and comfortable fit of these headphones. Many appreciate the lightweight design and find them to be a good value for the price. However, some users note that the bass could be improved, and the cord length is a point of contention for some. A few also mention challenges with volume and jack compatibility.

Comfortable fit but too much ambient noise.

Comfortable fit. Kind of bulky for traveling. Sound is good but needs to be boosted to compensate for surrounding noise. Needs noise suppression. Can someone recommend a good pair of headphones for air travel?

Sold as noise canceling head phones. They didn't block any noise at all. Bought them for a plane trip to block engine noise. Very disappointed. I returned them.

Great Sound Quality

The quality of these headphones are awesome. If these weren't open head phones, I would've brought it with me to work everyday. The highs are clear and the bass does not distort the mids and high. However, the bass might not be strong enough for some music. It also depends on what music you listen to. For some songs, the bass might be a bit lacking. For example, one wouldn't use these headphones for death metal By the way, the cord is too long and it is such a hassle to bring the headphone out for use.

I bought these to replace an old pair of on ear Skullcandy headphones that I own. I wanted over the ear headphones for better comfort, and I wanted something that sounded good. Well, these have delivered in SPADES. They are the best pair of headphones I've had, and the best that I even tried out in various stores. I carry them to and from work to ensure that I can use them for anything, whether sitting at my desk at work listening to music, or at home playing some handheld games. I can't stress how great these are.
The only negatives I can see is that some people aren't going to realize they're open back, and portability. Neither of these are an issue for me. Everyone else in my office uses their own headphones to listen to music, and I tend to carry a man-bag with me everywhere, so I have the luxury of portability.

These are amazing headphones for the price, I upgraded from the Apple Earpods to these, which is imo a pretty big upgrade. Everything sounds so much better with these, it's like discovering your favorite music again. You can hear so many things you couldn't ever hear before, I swear I can hear some singers taking breaths.
They do leak sound since their open headphones, if someone is sitting next to you they're going to hear the sound leaking out, unless your volume is crazy low. This isn't a big deal for me since I just use these at home.
I got these for $80 on sale, which is a great price for these, I seriously don't think you'll find better open cans for that price. Even at the regular price of around $180 these are pretty good for the price, but I would look into either buying used, or waiting for a sale if you can.

The cord that connects to the headphones didn’t work correctly for very long ,This is not Best Buy’s problem but Sennheiser’s but they corrected the problem it just took a few shipments back-and-forth-which was a pain for me!!

Great Sound for Audiophiles

I've read several reviews stating that these didn't fit phones. Well that is true because these are audiophile headphones, they are mean to go into a sound system that can push power to them and use a DAC to produce high quality sound. Using them correctly, the highs are clear and sharp, the lows are deep and solid. no overpowering bass like in Beats. Honestly if you're looking for a Beats experience, you don't know what quality sound is.This being said even as I have not broke in the drivers fully yet as I only have about 15 hours of use in on these(one long session included) More about the headphones, they are comfortable, good for long use, the cable is detachable and long enough to not have you tethered down. The fabric on the ear cups is soft, the ear cups themselves are fairly large. The sound stage produced is very wide and gives you a somewhat open feel. The padding on the top of the band is also quite comfortable.

I bought my Sennheiser 558s on another site about 4 years ago. Since then, they have been my daily headphones. I wear them 6 to 8 hours a day while I work. My pair has thousands of hours of use and still sound great. I have replaced the ear cups and cable, though, both of which can be easily removed and replaced if needed.
Pros
1. Removable cable and replaceable ear pads make repairing these things easy.
2. The sound is fantastic. The sub bass can get a little muddy (most open ear headphones are like this, it's the nature of the style) and the treble is a tad rolled off. However, the sound is warm and relaxed. I never get fatigued listening to these.
3. These are extremely comfortable. The headband and ear cups are foam covered in cloth. No leather. Ears stay cooler than over ear headphones with leather pads.
4. The impedance is low enough that most devices can drive these headphones pretty well.
Cons
1. The cable is super long and annoying. You can buy replacements for it, though, so it's not a huge deal. Replacements must have the sennheiser locking mechanism built in. If you go this route, just search for sennheiser 558 replacement cable.
Overall, I'm very happy with these. The sound quality is great for what they cost and the modularity helps keep them feeling new. Replacement pads and cables aren't too expensive. When treated right, these essentially last forever. They're not the best headphones ever made, but they're the best open ear headphones under $100 for sure.
Please note that these are open ear headphones. Most headphones have a solid plastic or metal back. These have a wire mesh instead which means there is nothing but some magnets and some mesh between your ears and the outside world. Sound does leak out and sound will flow in. That is how they are designed and it's on purpose, not a flaw. If you don't need or want that, then don't buy these lol. It's not a con or a negative, it's just a matter of taste and choice. These aren't designed for airplanes, they're designed for your couch.

I had read some pretty good reviews for this set, so I was very excited to get these for my BF, who has Parkinson's and music therapy helps. The stereo sound was iffy, and, when he was sitting next to me, I could hear every word of the song playing, it was coming out of the mesh cover surrounding the headphones.
Needless to say, they went back, and I got two sets of Sonys for $13.99 each. We love them!

Sennheiser has been making great headphones for many years. These are no exception. Excellent frequency response and comfortable at a very reasonable price. Don't go for the newer brands that sell on their hip cache and bass heavy reproduction.

Can't go wrong with the HD558

Three things stand out with the Sennheiser Brand.
1) Comfort - The HD 558 come with plush, luxurious velour ear pads and headband cushion which provide outstanding wearing comfort, even for long listening sessions.
2) Build - nice over the ear, solid band and great for the larger hat size
3) Quality - yea you can spend more, I did ( 598 , Amperiors ) but these are my daily go to cans .
And then there is the noise canceling feature, E.A.R technology and Sennheisers 60+ years of excellence.

Sound: Excellent overall. The base is quite adequate for a more balanced user, not for heavy base users. Points out the lacking COMPARABLE quality of downloaded tunes that one would not notice normally. (example, computer with good sound card, try CD vs song ripped from CD vs purchased download) However the headphones are still quite stellar for downloads.
These are primarily for at home stereo with the long cord and standard larger jack, and the adapter is for computer and portable outputs, rather than the other way around. If one doesn't mind the inconvenience, the hookup for portables still allows an excellent listening experience. The open headphone allows for its speaker mechanisms to resonate more realistically. ( I also prefer to have some contact with my sound environment at home). For many, on the road use is going to be too frustrating and inconvenient and may not make up for the superior sound quality.
The referred to "plastic structures" are more solid and stable than one might think

If you're looking for great sound quality in an affordable package, these headphones are a good deal.
The HD 558 are surprisingly much better than my HD 280 pair I had previously used. I am actually shocked by just how much better they are. Sound quality and comfort are much improved.
I can't attest to durability yet since they are new, but the head piece looks to use the same construction, so I suspect it may suffer from the same flaws the HD 280 had. Thankfully, Sennheiser has always been very professional and understanding with that defect, and replaces the headphones without any hassle (in my past experience).
Whether you're just a casual listener looking for high quality, or a professional, these headphones are amazing.
