Customers are delighted by the excellent sound quality and comfortable fit of these headphones. Many appreciate the lightweight design and find them to be a good value for the price. However, some users note that the bass could be improved, and the cord length is a point of contention for some. A few also mention challenges with volume and jack compatibility.

    Sennheiser HD558

Purchased these cans from Best Buy a few days ago and must say I'm extremely impressed by their power, comfort and quality. Got them on sale so that was an added bonus. I own a couple other Sennheiser headphones and wanted to see how the 558's compare to my 598SE/598Cs cans. Although I would still place those higher end headphones above these, I must say the 558's hold their own. The quality of sound is superb. It's true the bass is not as pronounced as some headsets, but Sennheiser is known for making headphones that produce stellar highs and mids... not necessarily bass. If you enjoy music these are great cans to purchase. If you're looking to be a bass head, grab some beats or something. Highly recommend these headphones for any mid-audiophile. Love them!

    Super headphones, worth every penny

I had always heard that Sennheiser made good headphones, but I was still surprised. These open-air headphones hardly feel like they are even on your head, and have used them for hours at a time, without any discomfort. I can also have a conversation with someone without taking them off. This can be a negative for some people, though. These headphones do not block noise. These sound so good, that I could even hear flaws in some of my lower encoded MP3s that I never noticed before. Uncompressed audio just blows me away, though.

    Excellent Headphones

These are amazing headphones, I used to have beats solos and I thought that those were amazing but after trying these i am just blown away. I wish I would have gone straight to these instead of the solos. the build quality is very good and the headband and ear pads are very comfortable. The only thing that I wish I knew before buying these is that these are open headphones meaning you will get a very spacious feeling to your music but the people around you can hear the music and you can hear them, but to some that isn't a problem at all. all the highs, mids, and lows all sound awesome. Overall I am very pleased with these.

    Excellent value for price paid

Pros: comfortable, semi-open design contributes to large sound stage, relatively easy to drive with a smartphone, laid back sound promotes fatigue free listening from lower resolution streamed music. Cons: Not great for isolation of background noise, Details are softened, cumbersome smartphone (1/8") adapter. This is probably the best set of headphones I purchased for under $100 ($80 on sale) At this price this was a no brainer purchase. Even at $150, these are an excellent addition to your headphone collection. With a balanced frequency response, these are great for classical, jazz, acoustic and even rock recordings. It's only when you play bass heavy material that you may find them lacking in ultimate sound level. I can spend hours listening to these without fatigue and get enough detail to remain interested in listening. They are also great for listening to lower resolution streams as digital artifacts are not as pronounced as with other headphones. If you can pick up a pair under $100, just do it.

Amazing headset at a unbelievable price

This headset was bought solely for gaming on my Xbox One. I always heard that audiophile headphones sounded much better than.gaming specific headphones. I figured at $80 the HD 558 would be worth a shot to see if that was true. My prior headset was the Astro.A40tr with mixamp combo so.I ended up using the mixamp with the Sennheisers. As soon as I started my first game of Modern Warfare Remastered I counderstand tell these headphones were going to be amazing. I was noticing little details in the game I hadn't noticed before. I was also able to pinpoint the direction of opposing gunfire better than with my Astros. Every single aspect of the game simply sounded much better. The 558s are super comfortable as well. I ended up playing about 7hrs with them my first day and never once did they bother me. They are so light and comfortable that I almost forgot they were on my head. I also bought a Antlion Mod mic 4.0.to use with the headset and that ended up.working flawlessly as it sounds better than my A40 mic by a significant margin. Overall I highly recommend the HD 558.

I love these! They are very crisp and clear. They have bass but not a lot of it. They are also pretty comfortable to wear. If you (and those around you) can tolerate them being open these are hard to beat.

The display at the store was non functioning but I bought them anyway and i am throughly impressed especially at the $99.00 sale price point. The dynamic range is wide. I had grown dissatisfied with typical MP3 sound produced from blue tooth speakers and decided to get back into my LP's with separate audiophile components. These are audiophile quality, don't be fooled by the low price. Quality that would have cost $300 back in the 1980's.

    Almost perfect

Everything is true about the sound. Its is extremely wide sounding with a laid back rich kind of bass. The bass is not heavy like Beats at all. The open back helps to create a big sound stage. The only thing I don't like are the cushions. Harsher feeling that I thought it was going to be. Well worth the sale price, no other wired headphone can touch the price.

These have a nice combination of warmth plus detail. Factor in build, reliability, and comfort, one is hard pressed to find a better audiophile grade open phone set at current BB sale prices of $75-100. Cord is well constructed as are the velour pads (both of which are replaceable). The next step up 598s have a higher style points and presumably marginally better sound. At double the cost, I didn't bother investigating.Note: these are no longer present on Sennheiser website and to my knowledge a discontinued model available exclusively at BB. Get them while you can. These remind me of really good equipment from the 70s:in terms of richness and fully body presentation, with the added bonus of modern clarity. They really don't do anything wrong. That being said, detail freaks or bassheads might look elsewhere. The bass production is a strong selling point, and closer to a closed back sound in terms of impact and depth. They are not as muted as Sennheiser models of the past, but still possess a slightly romantic, rounded sound. If you value midrange realism, you will be very happy.

I tried these and also the 598 and 518. I actually liked the 518 the best as the bass had a bit more punch without giving up much in sound clarity. But these 558 are very good as well. More comfortable than the 518 and a little less so than the 598.

    I like dat bass...

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

...and these headphones don't got it. I would have given these a five star rating, had there been good bass. However, the treble and all instruments as well as detail in singing voices, can be heard better than any speaker I've listened to...excluding those near front row seats at a rock concert, of course. If you want to rattle your eardrums, get Beats. They are ALL about bass, but you can hear very little treble detail. Sennheiser on the other hand is known for their quality, both exterior and soundwise. They are also so comfortable, you have to be more careful than I was when getting up to answer the door, unless you want to take whatever you're plugged in to with you to the door. Of note, I would strongly suggest you remove the cover from your phone before using the adapter. Some of the covers add height to the phone, preventing the adaptor from going in all the way. Found that out at the second store I went to trying to get a different adapter (which I didn't need). Hey! Even a smart person can be a dummy sometimes, right?

    Great Sound, Okay Cable

Grabbed these on a Deal of the Day so that I could listen to music on my phone or tablet, or at work on my computer. They are very comfortable and not too tight on my large head. My only complaint is that the cable is stiff and difficult to manage - however, I understand there are higher quality cables you can purchase separately..

SENNHEISER HD558: PRICED TO DISGUISE HIGH-END

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

These "Sennheiser" Headphones-model HD558 are amazing. They bring out the best in any form of music, yielding a wide-spectrum of audio (bass, midrange, and treble) to allow the listener a comfortable and entertaining listening session. The pricing of these headphones disguises the fact that they are actually high-end. I would not assert this claim if it was not the absolute truth, as I am an ardent music lover and an audiophile.

    Great Quality but not privacy

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I've been looking for a great Over-the-Ear set of headphones for use all day which i can also use for long support calls. These were on there way there but 1 minor issue. There is NO dampening at all and people near you can practically hear at the same volume. Pros: Cushions are amazing....I've not used them long but the overall feel of these is absolutely amazing, so soft and comfortable.....i could see myself sleeping with these easily. You can swap the cord and purchase one with a Microphone...i believe the quality will drop but I would use the intended cord for phone calls only. Sound at this price point is perfect. Blows the $300 beats studio's out of the water! Cons: My only issue is simply privacy. From listening to music or on a phone call, its just too loud on the outside. Overall: If you are looking for great over the ear headphones and not concerned about the outside noise, I can't think of anything better at this price point.....got on sale around $120.

    Great Headphones!

Bought these headphones because my Beats by Dre had died out on me. Knowing Sennheiser was one of the top brands I quickly made the decision to buy a new pair. It happened to be these and I do not regret this decision whatsoever! Having owned Beats, BOSE and Sennhesier now, I must say these are my favorite! I would say the only down side is the bass. If you are a person that does not desire much bass in a song I HIGHLY recommend you get these. If you would like more bass, I would say try to get a higher version of these or go with Bose headphones. All in all, I will forever use these in my studio as a producer until I no longer can!

Sennheiser 558s, never heard them called Titans

These are open-backed, meaning that they have a huge soundstage, and are part of the Sennheiser 518, 558, 598 line, some of the best headphones you can buy. Not only do they make my music sound like aural candy, but they reproduce stuff hooked to my guitar amp that would tear regular headphones apart, or they just wouldn't try to reproduce it at all. I was playing last night, and the sub-base was making the headphones actually bounce on my head. Just because the effects produced such a wide spectrum that it's far beyond the capabilities of regular headphones. If you have the spare cash for a good set of headphones, don't waste it on Beats, get the Sennheisers, best headphones made anywhere (Sennheisers are German made, since 1945)

I love these headphones, I previously purchase 2 sets of Beat Studio headphone only to have them crack or screws come out. This pair is much more durable and the sound is equal to the Beats.
