Shaq is back and better than ever. It’s a simple game, but it’s fun, funny, and has a great story! Shaq-fi the legend reborn, cop that soundtrack!

A mediocre beat-em-up that was at least worth $5

Shaq-Fu: A Legend Reborn review (2018, T) I had heard of this game, and I was intrigued, but not enough to pony-up the cash for it. I was familiar with the infamous reputation of its 16-bit predecessor, but I had never personally had the displeasure. When this sale-dropped to $5, I figured it was worth at least that much. Honestly, I found the game to be rather ok, but maybe that’s because my expectations and monetary investment were so low. The game is not a fighter like the original, but a mediocre arcade-style beat-em-up. Shaq just beats on the dozens of cookie-cutter enemies that flood the screen. Strategy or technique are not necessary; it’s pure button-mashing simplicity, and I can oddly respect that. It’s as monotonous as one would expect, but not to the point where I was annoyed at it, but it did get close at times. There are health and energy orbs aplenty, as well as power-ups that make you and even bigger curb-stomper than before, so there really isn’t a reason to ever die or even get close to death. It’s not even that long; a 100% playthrough with all achievements plus the DLC should take less than a few hours. The graphics and art style are simple and cel-shaded, nothing special or memorable. The story, setting, and characters is where this game’s meager enjoyment get the most mileage, at least for me. I can understand why lots of people would find this game’s humor sophomoric and even stereotypically offensive, but I am an immature man-child so it worked for me. As you should expect from Shaq, the product placement is belligerent and numerous. I chuckled at the absurdity and shamelessness of the actual real-world products being used and referenced. The extras’ text and game dialogue did have a lot of funny, tongue-in-cheek moments that I felt worked for what they were trying to do. The plot is practically non-existent, but funny enough. An orphaned Shaq grows up as any normal Chinese master of kung-fu would, and now he must save the world from evil demons disguised as thinly-veiled parodied celebrities. So if you ever wanted to deck the lights out of expies of the likes of Justin Bieber or Donald Trump, you’ll at least get a kick out of that. The physical disc-only DLC swaps Shaq out for (no joke) Barack “Dirty Barry” Obama, who takes up the quest to finish off Kanye West. It’s like a mad-lib found inside a fortune cookie. All in all, it’s by no means a great or even a good game. It’s barely passable, and certainly not a notch in the belt of crowdfunded games. But what I can say is this: I paid only $5 for it, and I felt I at least got my money’s worth out of it. Any more than that, and this is just another miss like all those free-throws.

Picked up the game on sale for a great price. Didn't expect too much for a $5 game, but I was surprised with the gameplay. Not the best graphics for a ps4 game, but it works perfectly for this game. The only downside is that it froze on me at one specific level and after multiple attempts to get past it I was not able to move forward. I tried pausing and restarting from checkpoint, closing the game and restarting completely and even turning off my system completely and still no luck. It's unfortunate because I would've given it 5 stars due to price for value, but to this day I have not been able to get to the next level from this freezing/glitch point. Still recommend it to anyone for this price!

Hilarious and fun. This beat em up is well worth it. I was surprised at how engrossing it was. Slightly repetitive, but that comes with the genre honestly.

I was looking for something for some mindless fun that didn't become a large time sink or require a lot of mental capacity. This does the trick. Only reason I have it 4 stars is because it didn't bring anything new and became repetitive. Missing many Shaq abilities from other sources.

I didn't know this game existed until Best Buy had it as part of their Deal of the Day for less than $10 so I decided to pick it up given the reviews. Overall, this is a good side scrolling button mashing game and keeps you occupied if you're bored.

Shaq Fu is a fun beat em up style game. I think this game gets a bad rap because of its older counterpart. Had a lot of fun and great for a budget title.

Shaq-Fu is a fun, but mediocre beat'em up. However, if you purchase the physical version, it comes with an 2nd game DLC, Barack-Fu starring Barack Obama instead of Shaq, along with his own own quest and bosses. The Barack-Fu DLC is currently not available for the digital copy.

Can you believe Shaq wanted to try again? I will say, they did a LOT better this time. Graphically it looks pretty good. Voice Acting is much improved. The comedy is stupidly funny. The combat is chunky and inconsistent. The enemies start off fresh and unique, but you quickly realize after a couple of levels that there are only going to be about 3-4 different variants of enemy factions. The game is only around 3 1/2 hours long. If you want a quick laugh with your friends, pick it up for dirt cheap. If you want to avoid that, go watch me play it on YouTube. (Bargain Bin Gaming)

I loved how stupid the first one was in the 90s and I’m glad they played off of how awful it was in this one. They embraced the cult status and treated it like The Room of video games

Yes the game is bad, boring, and the jokes don't work 99% of the time (Gold Bond pays me every time I say Gold Bond though, that's a funny one) but at a cheap enough price the game is very much worth it simply for the amazing Barack-Fu DLC that only works with physical copies (but that for some reason still has to be downloaded from PSN, search for Barack-Fu as it doesn't come up under Shaq-Fu). Barack-Fu is so out there and funny as hell, makes me sad the main game is so bad in comparison. Gameplay wise Barack-Fu is still boring though at least it's only for a few hours and doesn't do the nearly endless wave fights from the main game (which are the worst part of the main game). At ~$5 it's a must buy!

Fun game with that nostalgic feeling of the old side scrolling, rock’em sock’em video games. Although it has great cartoonish graphics if there are little ones around you may want to turn down the volume.

It's a fun game. It's a funny game. It's semi-short game. It's not a perfect game, long combat sections at times. But it's a pretty good old school beat 'em up. Glad I played this one. DLC is funny too and free.
