as the title says, my wife and I run a housecleaning business. we have used all brands of vacuums, some our customers choice and some we purchased. hands down, shark is the best in performance in every pricing category. why? well, sharks are intuitive, user friendly and has the best suction. from the very first use you will see it start to restore the pile of your carpet. for comparison, I will pick dyson because they are supposedly the gold standard. shark is the gold standard. hoover makes some very good vacuums and is second place. everyone else is the same using attachments with a dyson is very difficult and time consuming. but when using the shark, you will either click a button or switch and you are good to go. on this vacuum you can detach just the top or you can use the entire tube. when you put everything back, it clicks in immediately and you are back vacuuming. basically, for anything attachment related that takes 30 seconds with a shark, its 2 minutes or more with the dyson. in our case, add that up over 3 jobs and we are working 15 to 30 minutes longer each job if we were to use a dyson. as mentioned, sharks will restore the pile of your carpet. they have great attachments and again, are very intuitive. they have the long cords which allow you to cover more area than dyson whose cords are surprisingly short for the price they charge. the one drawback can be balance. if you use the hose it is best to make sure you either use the lift-away feature and detach the vacuum from the base or set it up against the piece of furniture so it doesn't fall. the lift away feature is quite nice. the pad on the floor attachment catches everything and makes floor cleaning easy. the navigator series cleans hard surface floors the best. in fact, the navigator series is one of the best around for going quickly from floor to carpet and back without using an attachment. you can turn the brushes off on all sharks, and a lot of other brands, with a simple button click. hoover has some vacuums in their Air series that are the best overall in hard floor vacuuming with a standard vacuum. we own 4 sharks. the top of the line, the next one down ( both from the rotator series) and 2 from the navigator series. each is the best in its class. the top of the line is heavier but has tremendous power. it also has a light on the brushes that show everything on your floor. it can be quite revealing if you haven't vacuumed for a while. The navigator is great of a multi-surface house. its light and agile. if you are in an apartment, it would be perfect. the lift away rotator is the best of both worlds. you won't be disappointed.

This vacuum really sucks--in a good way! I vacuumed a swath of extremely hairy (collie) rug with this and with my existing Hoover. No contest; the Shark actually made my ancient rug look like new and picked up in one pass what the Hoover left behind after multiple tries back and forth. It's also about half the Hoover's weight, a big consideration for a product I have to haul upstairs and down. I look forward to using some of the supplied attachments. The only downside: because of its swivel feature, it can be difficult to keep tracking straight, so that is a trade-off. I also wish a crevice tool had been included, but I got this for almost half off, so can't really complain too much.

I had been tracking prices on Shark Lift-Away and grabbed this one on sale for $120, an excellent value for the vacuum. The suction ability is great and the attachments are incredible. We have a hardwood floor and the attachment for it works better than expected. The machine moves very smoothly, although the buttons are very stiff at first. I'd say below $160 is a great value for the vacuum, particularly because buying the attachments à la carte alone would be more expensive than a cheaper model. I've done a lot of research into this purchase and I would highly recommend it. It's amazing to see the amount of dirt it picks up.

It picked up so much dirt and dust the first time we used it I was surprised. The vacuum is much lighter than it looks. Comes with lots of great attachments but unfortunately only two can be stored in board. The removable canister is a handy feature for cleaning stairs. Highly recommend the Shark NV391.

I have an arsenal of vacuums but this one is my 2nd favorite. Also, I have a portable to do minor cleaning. The Shark is corded but surprising it didn't bother me that much. It's light weight. The cord is long so it's comfortable to clean.

Replaced a 30+ year old upright unit. Seems to pick up a lot more stuff based on how much material ends up in the canister. Lighter in weight than my old unit and the lift away feature is useful for vacuuming the stairs.

I purchased this since my cat sheds all over my rugs and couches. I purchased this vacuum in the hopes I could remove the fur - and this vacuum worked great! Within a few sweeps - all the fur was gone! Excellent and very powerful. Also - fairly easy to set up!

I heard so much about this vacuum that when best buy had a 24 hour special sale on it, I jumped. So very glad. It's awesome. Lite and strong. Great deal. Only downside is it swivels As it moves and I'm elderly And it sometimes throws me off balance. CLEANS REALLY GREAT. Loving this machine.

This vacuum has fantastic suction, but it is very heavy to vacuum with. My arm is aching when I finish vacuuming. Also the beater bar is only 12 " wide and with a lot of carpet to clean another inch would help, and maybe a little longer cord. Am I asking to much?

A bit difficult to set up but after that ran flawlessly and not overtly too heavy if moving as a single unit. It shines when in portable lift off fashion. for cleaning high blinds, walls, nooks and crannies and of course stairs. The filters are washable so ow cost maintenance and very good suction and easy to use controls. The only thing missing is a cord rewinder.
