A: No, this is a bagless vacuum no bags are required. Also removable and washable filters as well.
Q: Does this have a retractable cord?
A: No. It winds around two clips.
A: yes. it can be shut off. the switch has off, brushes off in the middle and brushes on if you go all the way.
Q: How does this vacuum work on high pile carpet? Does it have carpet height adjustment?
A: I think it is automatic. But I don't think an extra long carpet will fit for it.

Q: Does this vacuum have a hose on it for reaching up in high places?
A: Yes. The product also has suction control, which is awesome. You can decrease suction to make it roll more easily over carpeting. And you can minimize suction even more for above-floor use, say for dusting curtains without sucking them into the sweeper; (I haven't yet tried the latter.)
