Great air purifier in an absolutely tiny unit!

I was pretty surprised when the air purifier arrived at my door. The box was pretty small. I wondered how this small air purifier could clean the air of my living room/kitchen. I read the instructions and put it together in the garage and when I plugged it in inside the living room, I was surprised that the instant it turned on, it recognized the air quality to be 59%. We had just finished eating dinner so I'm sure that cooking caused the low quality. The next few days, it always dropped after cooking as well, so this unit definitely "sniffs" the air. It doesn't take long to get it back up to good, maybe 90 minutes after finishing cooking. Our house used to hold the smells of dinner for hours. Now it clears up quickly with this compact device. It has an odor neutralizer cartridge that helps guard against and remove those odors quickly and efficiently. These cartridges are replaceable and inexpensive. I love that the unit doesn't require frequent filter changes, in fact, it's a NeverChange filtration system! The HEPA filter has an easy clean screen to keep debris out of the filter itself. I'm pleased to have this in my home to help keep our air clean.

Small and mighty air purifier

I’ve had a number of Shark air purifiers over the years and always been really pleased with the results. I have two cats and a dog which means lots of pet smells (and hair) to contend with. Pets usually makes the job of an air purifier much harder, but I’m happy to report that this new model with the “never change” filter technology is the real deal. Shark has accomplished this by putting a pull out pre-filter/hair catcher kind of thing that comes right out of the unit and is easily cleaned. In addition to this, unit takes scent cartridges that are commonly available online for their vacuum line and seemingly do a great job of freshening without overpowering. They aren’t required to run the unit so you don’t have to worry about everything shutting off if you don’t catch the replacement in time. This unit is small but pretty mighty. It’s relatively quiet unless it’s going full blast, and that usually only happens after the cats visit the litter box. Outside of that it’s super easy to set up, intuitive to use, and does exactly what it proclaims to do.

This Shark - NeverChange Compact Pro Air Purifier is everything that I expected and wanted. I wanted a purifier for my son's room to clean the air. I liked this one because of the odor neutralizer. Because of where his room sits, he can get some smells coming in from the kitchen, and outdoors, and other inputs. Not to mention odors from just being an active young boy. I'll be looking for that feature on all future purifiers. It really works. the other obvious draw was not needing to change the filter often, but of course, it will take time to see if it lives up to that.
Set up involved opening the bottom and taking the plastic off the filter, then plugging it in. It came on set to auto and I left it there. It cranks up when it senses it needs to, like when something wafts over from cooking or he opens the window. It's fresh air from the outside, but has allergens and particles and it responds. The best thing that I can say is that this Shark - NeverChange Compact Pro Air Purifier has left his room smelling fresher. I would recommend it to anyone.

Air quality is as much a concern now as ever, and the air purifier market offers hundreds of options at all sizes and price points. Shark's "NeverChange" machines all share a common design theme and features, most notably that the filters can last up to 5 years before needing a change while still providing HEPA or better filtration. I have had great experiences with past SharkNinja products so I was interested to see how their air quality appliances stack up.
The NeverChange Compact Pro is packaged in typical SharkNinja style, with lots of descriptive text and images on the box and simple, recyclable cardboard inserts holding the purifier steady for shipping. There was a fair bit of plastic wrap but no styrofoam to be found. I appreciated the manual being packed right on top of the machine and the (many) notices to remove the plastic bag from the filter before use. You'd be surprised how many people skip this step!
Setting up the NeverChange was as easy as removing all the plastic, plugging the unit in and touching the power button. This Shark unit doesn't include any wifi or smart app capabilities, instead relying on touch-sensitive buttons and an air quality sensor to enable an automatic mode in addition to the preprogrammed manual fan speed adjustments. The lack of wifi might be a pro or a con, depending on your use case. At Shark's price point many other purifiers include wifi connectivity and are both app and smart assistant compatible; that being said, using a purifier correctly can be achieved by selecting an appropriate fan speed and just letting it run constantly. Just be sure to do your research before buying.
The control panel here is straightforward and intuitive, at least, which is not always the case. The unit will default to Auto mode when you turn it on, which varies the fan speed based on the air quality measured by the machine's sensor, which measures PM1.0, PM2.5 and PM10 sized particles, combining this data into a clean air measurement of 0-100 percent displayed prominently on the front of the machine.
The overall design of the Shark is simple, but futuristic, and the materials quality is top-notch. I like the texture of the plastic and the soft "greige" color that doesn't call too much attention to itself. I also appreciate that the lights are dimmable, and after a certain amount of time will auto-dim so as not to be too bothersome.
As for filter quality I am impressed with Shark's HEPA-exceeding and 5-year lifespan, as well as the overall construction of the filter and the presence of a removable pre-filter. A good pre-filter grille really extends the life of the filter beneath, and Shark does one better by also including a thin pet-hair-blocking layer on the filter media as well. This all seems designed to hit that 5-year lifespan if at all possible, with the machine displaying estimated filter lifespan on the screen after scrolling through the various air quality metrics.
With solid construction, decent looks and high quality construction the NeverChange gives a good first impression, but for me, things took a turn as soon as I switched the unit on. Although it claims to be a quiet machine I immediately noted the unpleasant drone of the fan. It's not terribly loud on speed 1, but speeds 2-5 produce a droning noise you can hear from just about any distance. Frankly it sounds like a cheap box fan or an even a hair dryer on low speed to me. It's not the air noise that stands out with this machine, but the moaning of the fan motor. If it's across the room I can ignore it on the lower speeds but if I put it next to my bed for air cleaning while sleeping it's all I can hear.
Although quieter, the lowest two speeds don't move much air – and moving air is key to cleaning air. This Compact Pro is definitely designed for smaller rooms, but even in my 125 square foot office speed 1 is far too low to do much of anything; speed 2 would be the minimum I'd use here, with speed 3 being more in line with the small purifier from another brand I use in this space currently. Speed 3 is loud enough to be bothersome even on the other side of the room, but it does seem to move enough air to filter the space effectively.
Why not leave the unit on Auto mode, as suggested? Two reasons: one, it moves so little air on the default speed 1 that I doubt it's filtering much of anything; and two, after a few minutes it defaults to an "eco" mode that completely shuts the fan off until the air quality drops below the cleanest level. If a purifier isn't moving air it isn't cleaning air, which means any particles simply settle on nearby surfaces rather than getting caught in the filter media. I am also suspicious of the Shark's ability to sense the air quality on eco mode, as the only air movement is that generated naturally in the room. If the air is still, how is the machine going to sense a change in quality?
I'm a bit suspicious of the sensors in the Shark, although I don't have a scientific way to test them. I first used this unit in my kitchen/dining area, where I'd suspect a mixed air quality. Not only did the unit default to a 100 percent clean air quality reading, it didn't change from this reading at all, even when I was cleaning and preparing dinner (two activities that should produce significant particles). The only thing that finally dropped the air quality reading from 100% to 90% was a cloud of steam I generated while cleaning with a steamer nearby, and even that reading only lasted a few seconds before snapping right back to 100 percent. Shaking a shirt full of lint and cat hair directly in front of the Shark had no effect.
Finally, a word about the scent cartridge: clean air should be scentless air, and any artificial scents produce VOC-type pollutants that most air purifiers cannot capture in significant amounts. Even with a pleasant scent I'm not really interested in producing pollutants with a machine that's supposed to eliminate them. Unfortunately leaving the scent cartridge out leaves a large, ungainly hole at the top of the Shark, although it appears to function just fine with the cartridge installed.
I had high hopes for this NeverChange Compact Pro purifier based on other Shark products I know and love, but I was a little let down here. Not only is the fan relatively weak, it's noisy, which just encourages me to turn down the speed or leave the machine off entirely. The Shark's auto mode will turn the fan off after a few minutes of clean air readings, which defeats the entire purpose of cleaning the air, and the onboard sensors don't seem be very sensitive as it is. Although it's attractive, simple to use and well-built, this Shark purifier wouldn't be on my recommended list, unless it's deeply discounted and will be used in an area where noise isn't an issue.

I had the bigger version of this in my old home and loved how easy and virtually maintenance free it was. I moved into a new home and needed a new air purifier for smaller space and was thrilled to pick this smaller version up.
Setup is a breeze, just remove some tape, install the odor fighter, plug it in and you're ready to go. I placed this in a small sitting room which was the only place I could fit a litter box. I was worried about the smell because I sometimes relax and watch TV in this room, and it was definitely noticeable before, but not so much anymore.
Not only does this do a fantastic job of purifying the air, it also does a great job of neutralizing odors. I do not notice an odor from the litter robot unless the cat just used it. It is a really nice feature.
The touch controls are easy to use, I have mine set to auto and leave it on all day. It is also incredibly easy to clean, just pull the side vents out and bang the screen into a garbage can and you're done. No filters to change, and I know this will last.
