Out of the DCEU, this is for sure my favorite. Superman was really dark. Suicide Squad had a lot of promise, but no delivery. Batman V Superman was kinda heartless. Wonder Woman was good, but seemed like she was trying to solve her own problems the whole time. Aquaman... I just wasn't invested in the whole "I can talk to fish" thing. Shazam was predictable, but I still was laughing the whole time. Zach Levi brought a huge amount of levity to the universe and this movie was great. They focused on the human aspect of the characters making them easier to relate to and I cared about them way more than any of the other leads in the DCEU. Nice job on this one guys. You got one right!

    Good Job, DC

The recent era of DC movies, in their attempt to create an "expanded universe," has polarized their fandom. Just look at the response to Justice League--universally panned (sadly, pun intended) by fans and critics alike. There are, however, just a couple glimmers of hope for Warner/DC: one being the success of Wonder Woman, and the other being Shazam! [It's worth noting that as of the writing of this review, Joker has not hit theaters--but it looks like it could be a game changer]. Shazam! is a fun romp. If you approach it as a goofy superhero movie without high expectations, I think you'll be surprised. It has heart. It has funny moments. I believe the villain is a little too "cartoonish" with the scarring aroung his funky eye, but I'll even give him a pass because his story was decent enough. Overall, if you liked Tom Hanks in "Big," I think you'll enjoy Shazam! as well.

Zachary Levi from Chuck was inspired casting. His quirky humor transfers nicely to Captain Marvel. When Billy Batson utters the acronym for the Greek Gods that grant him their powers, Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles and Mercury, we get Zachary, who does a great job of portraying the mindset of what a teenager would do in a fully grown super-powered adult male body. Englishman Mark Strong, as ever, plays the ubiquitous baddie to great effect. Why are bad guys always British these days? We're supposed to be America's Ally. Perhaps try making the villains German ( members of the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei ) or something more politically topical?

Shazam is not a well known super hero. This is the first live action Shazam movie I know of. This movie has two actors that play as the hero. Billy as a kid and then as the hero = Shazam. Billy can transform into Shazam at any time. This movie centers around Billy and his foster family as well as the Bad guy and his family. Shazam has a lot going on in it. It is an origin story for the hero and the bad guy. It has a lot of humor and tear jerk moments. And some mildly scary moments too. The movies pacing is just right and keeps moving along without getting boring. I would recommend this to any superhero movie fan especially if you like DC superhero movies.

I didn't get to see SHAZAM! when it dropped in theaters and so my first time seeing the movie was on my TV. I will say the movie started out a little slow at first but things picked up within about the first half hour. Once it did the movie took off from there giving viewers a little of everything: Lots of action, plenty of comedy, and good ol' fashioned family fun. There were some "scary" moments during the film that might give a child nightmares (maybe even the parents, lol) but it was mostly relegated to one scene in particular and beyond that scene the movie stayed relatively family friendly. If you didn't get the chance to see the movie in theaters or you're a DCEU fan then you should pick up SHAZAM! It'll be worth it! Oh, and watch the movie till the very end, cause you know... Post-credits scenes, lol.

I thought this movie was great and I knew after watching this on the big screen I just knew I had to have it. I always thought this movie was really good in every way and it’s definitely worth having it on 4K Blue-Ray Disc. This is a movie I would recommend anybody should watch this movie and I would recommend it’s a movie you should own especially on 4K Blue-Ray Disc as always it looks great in this format. This is one of the most entertaining films I've seen this year. It’s one of the best movies ever and it has a good combination of comedy, action and sci-fi. I really enjoyed watching this movie and I really am happy to own it.

Movie is light hearted and entertaining. It is one of the better outtings from DC. The picture quality is sharp and the Atmos soundtrack is above average if you have that kind of surround setup. The 3D disc is also a solid encoding. Images do seem to have a pronounced depth to them and since the movie isn’t shot in the annoying shakey camera style the action is easy to follow and the 3D image is better appreciated. As with all 3D transfers, it is a bit dimmer than the non 3D movie but since the film itself is fairly well lit, this isn’t too much of a concern. There are some darker scenes but these are not problematic during the viewing.

Shazam wasn't something that I looked for in theaters, but after having more than a few people tell em it was fun, I gave it the blind-buy and I have to say that it is indeed a nice change of pace comparative to the other DC films, much more light-hearted and charming. Young Billy Batson is on a mission to find his mother, who lost him at a fair when he was only a toddler, but his life is forever changed when he's given the powers of an aged magician, which manifest when he says the magician's name, Shazam. Now he must learn to be a hero, as the Seven Deadly Sins have found a host of their own in a man named Sivana, all of which brings him closer to a foster family that offers the support that he really needs in his life. It's a fun film, and the Steelbook packaging is lovely on the shelf.

A refreshing take on the tired superhero genre

Don't get me wrong, I love a good superhero movie–especially what the last couple of decades have brought us...but the formula is getting kind of tired. Enter "Shazam", which is not quite what I expected...it's a kid-friendly, comedic take on the modern superhero genre, perhaps more akin to "Power Rangers" or "TMNT" than the current Marvel or DC movies. Just like in the old comic, the titular hero is a pre-teen kid who transforms into an adult superhero whenever he utters the word "Shazam." He's an alternate Superman of sorts who's powers center around electricity. Those expecting a strong tie-in to the current darker DC movies might find themselves disappointed, but this one is meant for a younger audience. Keep that in mind and you'll probably have a good time with it.

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson's (Asher Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult superhero Shazam (Zachary Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he'll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong).

Fun Movie if You Stick With It

This movie was a little tough for me. I know the history of Shazam, and it’s always bothered me that DC capitulated and stopped calling him Captain Marvel (I understand the reasons, but still...). And there were so many things that were new to me (Billy has a foster family? Sivana is a wizard?) that I had trouble warming up to this version of Shazam. But as the film went on, I saw that despite all this, ultimately, in spirit, this was true to the classic Captain Marvel I knew, and by the time the post-credit scene rolled (Mr. Mind!) I was won over. I still have some quibbles (it’d be nice if we could see some evidence that Shazam has the wisdom of Solomon), but overall this is a movie that celebrates the character, and is a fun way to spend a couple of hours.

DC hasn't had much success with their superhero movies compared to Marvel. I wish they would do just as good coz they have a lot of good titles in their vault. This movie, imo, was really good. Adding humor to the action made this movie more enjoyable for me. I did have a problem with the ending. I think a lot of people know that other than Shazam himself, he has a family of superheroes very similar to him. I was disappointed that they were introduced already in this movie. It would have been nice if this movie was just strictly Shazam and then introduce his family in the sequel. Having the rest of them there killed it for me. Oh and Best Buy, thank you for having this movie at the price that you had. You beat the other guys again!

Well, DC is finally got 3 films right. Starting with Wonder Woman, then Aquaman, and now Shazam! Great sets, and effects and a good story line added up to score one for the DCU. Actor Zachary Levi (formerly of the Chuck TV show a few years ago...) was perfect for playing the lead character and acting also like a little kid that he was still even though transformed into an adult-sized character of Shazam. The next film will be interesting to see now that they've set it up for Mister Mind (an intelligent worm-) as the main villain, and after that...Black Adam !!!

DC has had its issues in recent years when it comes to films based on their universe of characters, they are getting a little better but still have a ways to go to really compete with Marvel. With that said, Shazam! was definitely an improvement over some of the recent films... although it still isn't quite up to snuff compared to the Marvel stuff. This movie was almost more of a comedy than a comic book inspired movie, I mean I like humor in these type of movies, that's one of the things I enjoy about the Marvel stuff but here it just seemed like they were trying to force the humor a bit... same thing with Aquaman. This movie is still worth a watch though and for the most part still entertaining

Great addition to the DC Universe with Shazam! Zachary Levi nails the character and from the BTS videos you can tell he had a great time bringing the character to life. 3D is done well, not as popping as say Aquaman but that (imo) is due to largely being on location vs set for most shots. It works for what is needed without being too distracting from the movie which does happen sometimes. Lots of easter eggs and references if that is of interest too. Overall another good "even though we are DC we can laugh sometimes too" entry. ;-)

I was skeptical when I first started seeing set pics for this movie, especially with the muscle suit and all. I like the character of Shazam, even though I didn't know every single thing about him and comic book movies are my favorite. But after seeing the film, I absolutely loved it, and even teared up a couple of times while watching. It's a really fun movie that still has a dark side to it, especially since the premise of the character is magic. I would totally watch this movie if you get a chance, I think you will really like it.

Shazam continues a trend of excellent live-action DC films that seem to have gotten a much needed second wind beginning with "Wonder Woman" and continued with "Aquaman". Shazam does the source material justice by embracing the wish fulfillment themes of a boy gaining the body and powers of a adult superhero while keeping his inner goodness and learning the importance of having family in his life. Great for the family while not dumbing itself down . Recommended for holiday viewings due to when the film takes place.

As far as the films in the DC Extended Universe go, it's always hit or miss: For every WONDER WOMAN (2016), there's a JUSTICE LEAGUE (2017). That's being said, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed watching SHAZAM! I'm off the generation that watched the Saturday morning TV series (in first run) in the 70's. As a kid, it was fun no matter how silly it Was then. This film was very entertaining and fun for the entire family. I'm glad I added to my library. The bonus featurettes are great too!

What a fun and enjoyable movie for kids of any age. DC rebranded Captain Marvel to Shazam after Marvel released their Captain Marvel movie, as most non-comic book fanswere calling him Shazam anyway. After multiple stints in cartoons over the ages, the Big Cheese is in a live action movie and it is fun and entertaining and does not disappoint. I got the Best Buy exclusive SteelBook version and it was worth the hassle of getting. The lenticular slip case of the regular Blu ray version was pretty cool too.

Now this is the way it should be seen/watched in the Movie Theaters and at Home if You’ve Your own 3-D Television especially if it’s in 4K 3-D Television so I highly recommend adding this to Your Collection plus own both the 3-D and the 4K just-in-case You happen to have Family/Friends who can’t watch 3-D due to the Health problems from Headaches or Seizures overall the DCEU has proven Themselves as equals!
