This show doesn't have your old school, average Sherlock. The brilliance of the original Sherlock can never be replaced, but this series does such an excellent job of trying. It's a fun new spin on procedural style cases. Benedict Cumberbatch stars as a neurotic, narcissistic, enigmatic genius whose method of solving cases can seem a bit unconventional, or off putting to the supporting characters, but are brilliant in so many ways. It is fun to deduce things along with him, though he's often one (or ten) step(s) ahead of everyone else. Martin Freeman, honestly (for ME anyway) is the best character of this show. While Sherlock himself is beautifully done, and you can barely take your eyes off of him to pay attention to what else might be going on, Watson is by far the most relatable, and understandable person there. For all intents, and purposes, Watson is a fairly normal man/former soldier who finds himself swept up in Sherlock's madness, and gets a taste for it. The whirlwind excitement, and intrigue of this mysterious genius sucks him in much the way it does the viewer. By extension making Watson our guide to the hijinks that ensue. Even though each series is only 6 episodes long, you basically get a feature film in each one, with a recurring arc over all. I highly suggest this to anyone who enjoys either one of these fine actors, or anyone who would enjoy a modern take on old characters.

This is probably one of the best written, best acted shows out there. Honestly! Steven Moffatt, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Martin Freeman are amazing. The episodes follow Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's writings, but with a modern touch and Moffatt's crazy twists. 99.99% of the people I recommend to watch this show absolutely fall in love with it (the other 0.01% are crazy...actually it's because they don't like the harshness of Benedict's Sherlock, but I promise, give him a chance!) Honestly, you need the introduction of Freeman's Watson to warm and humanize Sherlock and find that he's a very likeable character. Usually, writing reviews is not my division, however I would write a million if it would get more people to watch this underrated show. The BBC produces some of the most compelling, witty, smart shows and we Americans are a bit slow on the intake since our crazy infatuation with reality TV (horrible). Watch this show!

Steven Moffat has done it again with a compelling storyline that is grasping and intellectual from the first five minutes to the last scene of the series. Sherlock is an updated story of Sherlock in modern times and it a great tv series for people that love BBC Shows, Sherlock Holmes, or a great mystery. Even though the episodes are 90 minutes, only three episodes a season are a killer. Plus the amount of time that they usually wait to produce more, the next season 3 is coming out in January and I couldn't be more excited. Watch this series and you will understand why everyone is so obsessed with Sherlock. I love John Watson and Sherlock Holmes relationship with one another, both Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch are wonderful actors and when you meet Moriarty you will understand while he is the most ruthless villain I have seen in almost any series.

If you enjoyed Robert Downey Jr.'s Sherlock Holmes (or any other version , for that matter), you're in for a real treat. This BBC version is great. The acting is superb all around; the dry British humor goes down like a fine, sparkling champagne; the plots are taken from the classic stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, but are perfectly updated to fit in nicely with our day and age (and its modern-day issues of terrorism and mayhem). You will not regret getting this Blu Ray series, and you will find yourself quickly ordering (or watching, if you already have it) the second season. Binge watch this great series now, because I've read that the third season is being filmed even as we speak, and you'll want to be up-to-date when it arrives. So sit back with some snacks, turn on the telly, slip in a BR disc and enjoy!

Sherlock is easily one of the best shows I have ever seen. Technically, they're more like short movies, as each "episode" is 90 minutes long. The time flies, and the length permits superior character development along with deeper plot lines. The first episode is one of the best, and the 3rd one is absolutely thrilling. That makes this season well worth buying, even with the comparatively disappointing 2nd episode in the middle. Mild spoiler alert: this season ends on a cliffhanger, so consider buying season 2 as soon as you have confirmed that you love it by watching the first episode.

Great series! Enjoyed binging. Hope they make another season.

If you haven't seen Sherlock BBC yet, you should! It's a great show, 90mins per episode that are almost movies. It's a "smart" show with lots of humor . If you enjoyed the X-Files, I can almost guarantee you'll enjoy Sherlock. Beware though, the seasons are only 3 episodes each, and they tend to come out every 2 years or so. So you'll need to be okay with a somewhat extended hiatus. Or you know, just sit back and enjoy the craziness of the fandom! (See tumblr and Pinterest for details.)

WHAT'S NOT SO GREAT IS THAT THERE ARE ONLY 3 90 MINUTE EPISODES PER SEASON.AND THEY COST 24.98 EACH SEASON. THE SHOW i WILL RECOMMEND, THE COST NOT SO MUCH. GOOD THING WAS BEST BUY HAD A DEAL, BUY 2 OR MORE SEASONS OF A SHOW AND GET 50% OFF, SO 1 GOT SEASONS 1 & 2 FOR $12 BUCKS EACH. TARGET AND WAL-MART HAVE THE SEASONS AT 24.98 EACH

Sherlock is, in my opinion, one of the best things on tv in the last ten years. Great writing brings the soul of the characters and the stories into modern London and great acting brings them both to life. I show Sherlock to anyone I know that hasn't seen it and every one of them had loved it. What better endorsement could there be?

If you are looking for boring, predictable entertainment, look elsewhere. Cumberbatch, Freeman, and the writers have conspired to create a thrilling contemporary version of the famed detective. As an updated remake, this show had the potential to fail on many levels. However, it succeeded completely. The 3 episode series (90 minutes each) were totally compelling. I watched all three back to back and then headed back to Best Buy for Seasons 2 and 3.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman make a perfect pair! This is a great modern-day adaptation to the Sherlock story. With Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat writing and directing, it is no wonder it is so perfect. great acting, great camera work. Each episode is a self-contained little mini movie seamlessly tied together by well thought out plot development and overaching themes with incredibly interesting antigonists and plenty of mystery.

Even for people who don't consider themselves Holmes fans, these new Sherlock Holmes adventures will win you over! Fantastic writing and a visual treat to see Cummerbatch and Freeman's acting skills at their best. Your only complaint will be that the seasons are so far apart. I've turned on several people to these new stories and every one agrees...the best Holmes and Watson ever!

I get it, I do. Each episode is a mini movie PACKED with awesome intricate details that you will only notice the 7th time you watch it, That being said, it is AH-MAZE-ING. Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are perfect as Holmes and Watson. Moffat and RTD are evil geniuses with their story telling. If you are a fan of witty, British humor and crime dramas this is perfect.

I only got onto this series buying a cheap copy of season 1 since I was bored with my other movies - wasn't going to originally since I didn't think I would like Sherlock Holmes in modern times but changed my mind after the first episode - this series has humor and drama and the actors playing Holmes and Watson are perfect.

Great beginning to the series. Episode 1 is a standout out especially which is saying something as often a pilot episode is ok but weaker than when the characters start to flesh out. This of course could have to do with the 100+ years the books have been in circulation and the numerous filmed versions out there.

I didn't start watching until well into Series 2 but loved the show since then, so this purchase was necessary to see the beginning properly, in its full glory. And I was not disappointed. This clever & enjoyable show is one of the best in recent times, especially Series 1 and 2.

Being a Sherlock fan it was not hard for me to enjoy this version of SH. Because I have seen many other renditions and interpretations of SH, I was able to keep an open mind to yet another Sherlock. The stories are still interesting and true to the "who done it" theme although modernized to an extent.

Physiological thriller with complex suspects. I don't think Sherlock Holmes was a heroin addict. Though the book claims he was a self abuser of poisons. Mainly he smoked and drank although not addicted. The conclusion of suspects always points elsewhere and Lasard always gets it wrong.

This is truly is one of the best shows I have ever seen in my life, Benedict Cumberbatch is absolutely outstanding as Sherlock and Martin Freeman doesn't miss a single beat as Watson. I could go on about the production value of this show, it's simply outstanding, just get this DVD you won't regret it, I promise!

This has quickly become one of my favorite shows ever. I find myself anticipating the next season as soon as one is finished. Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are both incredible actors and have a great chemistry that makes it thoroughly enjoyable to watch them interact with each other as Sherlock and John.
