If you enjoy endless dungeon grinding you may find some enjoyment here, but within a couple hours the game gets old.

The main draw for me to JRPGs is usually setting and characters. A lot of JRPGs do feel a bit similar, so you have to pick out what feels right for you. The characters are great, and the art by Tony Taka is always a treat. The music is also enjoyable. Gameplay is pretty standard, but I do like it a lot more than your standard turn-based combat. I also have to say that I usually play these types of games with the original Japanese audio. However, I think the dub for this game is actually really well done. The conversations between characters actually feel real, and there are appropriate inflections or pauses, like you would get having a real conversation. Usually in JRPGs that kind of stuff tends to be a bit stiff, so this was refreshing.

This game feels sort of like a Tales game, but not 100%. I actually prefer the more simplistic hack n slash style battle system from this game over the (lock on to the enemy) style in Tales. In this game you have more free form movement so the battles feel more like a 3D arcade brawler. The music is very beautiful and Celtic inspired. Overall it's a solid Very Good RPG worth playing if you have played all of the best Switch games already.

    Story-driven RPG with some issues

Shining Resonance is an engaging action RPG with a story that held my attention. However, I thought that the world itself wasn't as fleshed out as it could've been; you're constantly running back and forth from dungeon to dungeon, which makes it a little bit repetitive (though I did enjoy that it gradually opens up as you explore the world). Also, the difficulty spikes can be very, very unfair - especially the bosses - so be prepared when fighting them, given that sometimes you'll fight three bosses in sequence and won't be able to save in between. But for those who like challenging experiences, then there's no reason to skip this game. It requires a lot of grinding as well as a deeper understanding of the game mechanics; basically, you can't just hack and slash your way into the game's ending. Note: for some reason, I ordered the Launch edition and didn't get the nifty metal box all the reviews mention. Be mindful of that when ordering!

For JRPG fans, this is a good option on Nintendo Switch. Fun gameplay and good story.
