I’ve been enjoying the Shokz OpenFit series of headphones since they first came out. They are great for just about any physical activity while also allowing for situational awareness without the need to intentionally turn on a “passthrough” or “transparent” mode. Since generation 1 of these, the sound has been great, the fit and stability rock-solid and the battery life better than most… but Shokz still figured out how to drastically improve on them for their new Pro model. These OpenFit Pro are the 4th generation of the OpenFit series (OG, OpenFit 2, 2+ and now the Pro). While the basic premise of the product has remained, Shokz has steadily improved on everything with each successive generation. I’ll start with a review of the OpenFit Pro on its own, then a brief comparison of the improvements over the prior OpenFit 2+. The OpenFit Pro are an “open” style earbud with an ear hook design. They are intended to fit securely by wrapping around your ear rather than sitting in your ear. They don’t completely block your ears so you can hear what’s going on around you without having to take them off or turn on a special “transparency” or “passthrough” mode. I wore mine while warming up, stretching, doing yoga, walking on a treadmill, weight training, and riding a bike. During all of these activities, the buds never budged and sounded great. These are the first open-style buds that I’ve tried with ANC (active noise cancellation). It felt odd when I first turned on the ANC. I was hearing ambient sounds and then all of a sudden, the noise floor just dropped. I could still hear people around me speaking and other regular sounds like traffic and people talking, but the background noise and hum just vanished. This may not be 100% unique but I’ve never heard of open buds with ANC and these work surprisingly well. This feature does drain the battery a bit faster, but they beefed up the battery so you can still get up to 6 hours of music with ANC on before needing a charge. If you can do without the ANC feature, they’ll stretch to an amazing 12 hours on a charge! Most buds have a touch panel on the side. I usually struggle to find the touchpad blindly without accidentally activating something. I really appreciate the physical button and its placement as it’s easy to find and press without looking and without accidentally doing the wrong function. The left button defaults to toggling the ANC feature on or off so it’s easy to switch between if you want. That physical button on either bud can also do the usual track controls, adjust the volume and invoke your phone’s assistant. As for the sound quality; you shouldn’t expect open buds to sound this good, but they do! There is minimal sound leakage at normal volumes but the bass is strong, the clarity is crisp and the volume gets loud (albeit with more sound leakage at higher volumes). I was really surprised by how good these sound. In fact, on some of my favorite bass-heavy songs, my head actually vibrated from the rumble! There’s also Dolby Atmos with head tracking support which is great for watching movies or listening to properly-encoded music. Dolby Atmos really does add a layer of realism and clarity to everything that I’ve tried including classes on my spin bike. The provided charging case is flatter and wider to fit the buds with their ear hooks side-by-side rather than stacked. This also makes it easier to put them in and take them out but you need to rotate them versus how they fit on your ears. The case charges by USB-C or wireless (qi) and has enough power to recharge the buds a few times without needing a trip back to a USB adapter. You can also give the buds a quick 10 minute charge in the case for up to 4 hours of music. The app is the same as for all other Shokz products but has new features specifically for these OpenFit Pro. The design is clean and uncluttered with easy access to the features you need most. You can check charge levels on each bud and the case separately, set the equalizer, change the functions of the button shortcuts, and get help when you need it. Overall, these buds really surprised me for their comfort, stability, sound quality, app richness, battery life and the better-than-expected open-ear ANC. If you are already familiar with the Shokz OpenFit range of open ear buds, here’s a short rundown of the improvements over the prior models like the original (gen 1), the OpenFit 2 and the next-lates OpenFit 2+. Starting with the case, all prior OpenFit models had similar square but thicker cases where the ear hooks were stacked to decrease case width. This allowed the case to be narrower but it also had to be taller. This Pro version has the buds rotated and side-by-side so the case can be thinner but needs to be a bit wider, too. This is probably a good tradeoff since the thinner case will fit in pockets better even if it is a bit wider. The buds themselves are a bit heavier than prior versions but this creates a more balanced feel plus longer battery life. There are more microphones for both better voice pickup for calls and for the new ANC feature. Prior models had a wear sensor that was a bit too sensitive and frequently paused the music when I would tilt my head up or to the sides. These Pro buds have a new hybrid wearing sensor which uses both optical and capacitive sensing to detect when they’re being worn and automatically pause the music when you intentionally take one or both off without falsing nearly as often. The sound quality is noticeably better than prior versions of the OpenFit. The sound is more nuanced, the bass more pronounced, and the clarity more focused. I was genuinely surprised and pleased at how great these sound - especially considering they are open-ear style. Lastly, the new ANC feature works really well. I turned it off and got a feel for what my room normally sounds like. Then I turned on the ANC and it was like that hum of life just went away. This also makes music and calls that much clearer without having to turn up the volume to compensate for background noise. Overall, these Shokz OpenFit Pro buds will surprise you at how good they sound, how long the battery lasts, how comfortable they are and how secure they fit. The ANC feature really does work great and the Dolby Atmos processing with head tracking adds clarity to music and immersion to movies. If you’re upgrading from a prior version of OpenFit, you will definitely notice and appreciate the improvements. If these are your first experience with the Shokz OpenFit, you’ll probably love them as much as I do.

Outstanding sound quality, no ear canal irritation

If open earbud headphones needed an ambassador the Shokz OpenFit Pro would be a great choice. They sound great with excellent detail, balance, and a wide soundstage. Bass is light but musical, more akin to a reference speaker in that you’re going to hear it more than feel it. If you need something that’ll vibrate your ears and offer a strong kick, these honestly aren’t it. But if sound quality is your thing, you’re going to like these. I actually like my bass a little heavy and love these because there’s just enough oomph to satisfy me while enjoying some major benefits of the open earbud design. It’s an area where most open earbud style headphones struggle because the speaker essentially hangs in front of your ear and uses bone conduction tech to transmit sound vs sitting directly in your ear canal. It’s my first experience with this style, but I can immediately hear and feel the advantages. As far as practicality goes, these might be the best “earbuds” I’ve ever tested. The loop comfortably wraps around my ear and confidently keeps the earbud in place. I can actually sprint and shoot ball without worrying about them falling out. And while they’re not as low profile as an in-ear bud, they're stylish and noticeable so I don’t seem like I’m talking to myself when I’m on a call in public. Another big advantage is that since they don’t go in your ear canal, there’s no issues with sweat and irritation which seems to frequently happen with in-ear earbuds. This is huge to me, because working out with earbuds frequently irritates my ears no matter how often I clean them or headphones. The open style makes my ears feel like they can breathe which lends to another great advantage: I can confidently wear both sides while on my neighborhood walks and runs. With other headphones I only wear one side when I’m out and about because I like to be aware of my surroundings. It’s been a workable compromise, but as a music lover I’m so happy to now do my walks in stereo. And despite hyping up the “openness” of open earbuds, the Active Noise Cancelling works well in some regards. It’s an open ear headphone design so there’s significant noise reduction limitations and it won’t totally silence your surroundings, but the ANC does magically reduce some of the noise. Overall, the sound quality is great, the loop and open ear design makes them super practical, and the long battery life assures they’re ready to go. If you care about sound quality and earbuds that’ll confidently stay in place, you’ll love the Shokz OpenFit Pro. SOUND Excellent detail and tonality. Highs are smooth at the top end, vocals sound natural and the bass is musical. Bass performance is generally the biggest challenge for open earbud headphones so it’s impressive what Shokz is able to accomplish here. The bassline in “Hard Knock Life” by Jay-Z comes with just enough kick to respect its presence while staying musical. Same with the bassline in “You’re Makin’ Me High” by Toni Braxton. However, it struggles with the deep notes in Ludacris’s “Blueberry Yum Yum” where the bass is so faint that it lacks presence. At least they don’t overextend and get muddy so they still sound clean - kind of like having a low pass crossover. The sound experience reminds me of a reference speaker and they might as well be with how good the general balance and details are. The open style lends to a wide soundstage that feels and sounds more “free” than any in-ear headphone I’ve tested. It’s more like I’m at a concert hall than sitting between two speakers, which is exceptional. According to Shokz, these were also designed with Dolby Atmos in mind. This would explain why this might be the first time I actually don’t mind leaving Atmos on for music. I usually avoid it because with most headphones the sound becomes overly synthesized, but it actually sounds good here. Turning it off still sounds great and almost “fuller”, but with the Atmos on there’s a certain subtle ambiance that I enjoy. For fine tuning there’s a user adjustable 10 band EQ available in the Shokz app. There you can also adjust the ANC noise pass through, switch between Music or Movies Dolby Audio mode, and customize your controls. Call quality is excellent. DAY TO DAY Comes with a relatively thin clamshell case that features USB-C and wireless charging. The fit and finish are excellent and there’s a little button on the topside of each earbud for controls. No touch controls with haptics here, we get real buttons! It can be a little hard to find at first but after about a week I can feel it pretty quickly now. What really sets these earbuds apart for me are how practical the ear loop and open earbud design is. They stay securely attached to my ears and the open design allows me to hear my surroundings better which is key for when I’m running around at work, are out and about, or working out. The fact that they rest in front of your ear vs inside your ear canal significantly helps prevent irritation issues too. These have quickly become my go to fitness headphones. PROS - Excellent sound quality - Good detail in mids and highs - Surprisingly musical bass - Open soundstage - Excellent call quality - Comfortable long term - Stays in place well - ANC effective - Open ear design ideal for being out and about - Can confidently wear both earbuds while being active - No ear canal irritation - Long battery life - Wireless charging case - Customizable EQ - Well built CONS - Bass is musical, but not powerful - EQ bass adjustments can sound muddy - Can be difficult to find buttons by touch

Premium Sound and ANC from Open Ear Headphones

I’ll start by saying that I am a runner and I have been using Shokz products since they first came out and were called AfterShokz. They changed the game for me as far as listening to music while I run. I run 100+ miles per month plus log a few hundred miles per year in walks/hikes. Shokz offers the best combination of music (or spoken word) and safety for active people. They have gotten to the point where they are popular beyond use in activity though. People like Shokz for use at any time and the OpenFit Pro Earbuds will appeal to even more people. When I first got my Shokz OpenFit Pros I was blown away by the newest feature, ANC - active noise cancellation! I never thought this was even possible with open ear headphones and I had never even heard of the concept before. Now I do want to temper my enthusiasm with some reasonable expectations. These are still open earbuds so ANC will not be as effective as in-ear or over-ear headphones. What they do though is tone down the noise around you. I live right in the middle of downtown in a mid-sized city and I have used these on all my runs and walks for the past couple weeks. The OpenFit Pros reduce car (and other misc) noise by about 30-40% in my estimation. It is just enough to take the edge off the noise of traffic as I walk along the road, but I still am aware of cars coming and going. It really feels like the sweet spot between an “ambient mode” (which is microphones picking up surrounding sounds and playing them in your earbuds) and pure ANC -which could make you miss the sound of a car approaching altogether. The sound quality is really good for open ear earbuds. Certainly not what you get from Apple, Bose, or others, but these are much safer than the other brands. Each set of Shokz headphones I’ve had (and there have been at least 5-6), the sound has gotten better and better. These Pros replaced my OpenFit 2’s and I do think the sound quality is better in the Pro’s. The new Shokz have added some EQ modes. It’s not a full-on equalizer, but you can boost bass, treble, vocal, along with a few other options. They also added a slider for Dolby Atmos. Now I am not an audiophile but it does sound a bit more crisp. The app also includes options for multipoint bluetooth pairing, smart wear detection, find my earbuds, and settings to customize controls on the earbuds. There is even a slider to adjust the amount of noise cancellation. When I was using the OpenFit 2 I had an issue with the charging and the case, but the Pros have been perfect so far and the case seems like a higher quality and better design. I don’t anticipate any issues going forward with the Pros. I’d recommend these earbuds to anyone who wants to listen to some kind of audio playback while still being aware of their surroundings, someone who wants the best audio quality that open ear earbuds can offer. The OpenFit Pros really are in a class of their own. They offer both great sound and noise reduction.

Great sounding earbuds that are super comfortable

I have a few pairs of older Shokz headphones / earbuds that I like, so I was excited to try the newly released Shokz OpenFit Pro Earbuds. This review is based on two weeks of heavy use during workouts, outdoor sports, chores, atv rides, and whatever else I could get in to during winter vacation. TL:DR - If you like open fit earbuds, you will love the enhancements with the OpenFit Pro earbuds. Key features include Dolby Atmos functionality, SuperBoost bass, impressive sound clarity, and lightweight comfort. These earbuds can keep up with an active lifestyle, from the gym to the range, hiking, running, and off-roading, I haven't yet found an activity where these earbuds won't stay securely in place.  Pros: Dual-diaphragm drivers allow for impressive sound clarity. The ear hook stabilizers provide secure fit, even doing plyometrics there is zero movement Super comfortable due to light weight and design of the earpiece  Wireless charging case gives an impressive 48 hours of listening time between charges Cons: Charging case could be a bit more sturdy, already a few surface scratches in the coating Headtracking is good if you are stationary or seated, but struggles a bit if you are moving around.  In the box are the earbuds, case, extra ear hooks, charging cable and paperwork. Setup is straight forward via bluetooth connection, while it's not required you'll want the Shokz app for additional features and function control. A few app features to call out include the Noise Reduction mode which is meant to filter out noisy environments and be able to hear without turning up the volume of the earbud. I find this works in the majority of mid-level noise environments such as commuting and in public areas. The app also allows for EQ adjustments to include standard, vocal, bass boost, treble boost, and private which reduces high frequency sound leakage. You can also customize the controls and what each button press function will do, functions are single, double, triple tap, as well as press and hold, and tap and long press, giving a total of 5 options per earbud. I love this, as I tend to get the wrong output when I'm on a run and trying to find a touch sensor and tap it the required number of times.  As far as performance, the OpenFit Pro earbuds tackle a few of my complaints from previous generations of open fit earbuds. The fit is like none other in both comfort and stability with the included ear hooks. For example, I used them during a plyometrics workout and they stayed in during box jumps and jump squats, no repositioning or moving, plus they don't get as sweaty as in ear earbuds get.  Second improvement is that the sound leakage is minimized, so I'm not sharing the audio with those I'm standing next to. Lastly, the sound is the best I've ever heard out of drivers this small. No, they will not compete with your giant over the ear headphones for immersive sound, but they will absolutely impress you when compared to any in ear earbud on the market today for depth and bass. When I compared them side by side with a top mainstream earbud, I'd say they output about the same range, but I could tell improvements in both clarity and sound depth of the Shokz over the other one. I also am really impressed with the Dolby functionality. I don't use them much for streaming movies, but I find that the head tracking improves how immersed I feel. The sounds seeming closer / further away as I turn my head in relationship to the source, which is fine as long as I'm seated or stationary. If I'm trying to watch while working around the house, I find that it doesn't always get the source location right and it'll feel a bit off in comparison to what my brain thinks I should hear. As this isn't my primary use of these earbuds, I can't complain, as it's one of those bonus features, and the true value for me is in quality audio that can keep up with my lifestyle. Bottom line, open fit earbuds aren't for everyone, there is still some noise leakage and they are a different look than small earbuds. However, for those of us who are tired of readjusting earbuds, losing them during workouts, turning up the volume to hear over the background noise, or just don't like things in our ears, these are absolutely a must have earbud.

The Shokz OpenFit Pro earbuds are absolutely the best sounding and most comfortable earbuds I have ever experienced. These are open air buds which means they don't go inside your ear canal in the painful way some do. These wrap around the back of your ear and then they sit comfortably over your ear canal. In addition to being comfortable, they feel quite secure (even with my glasses!). The most exciting thing about these is that they have "Open-Ear Noise Reduction", not to be confused with noise canceling (personally, I never want noise canceling earbuds for safety reasons). The way these work is really quite incredible - they absolutely make it so that you are able to reduce the sound from loud, jarring noises and also reduce a lot of ambient noise. Just slide the setting bar in the app to set your perfect level. You can still hear horns from cars and people talking loudly, which I would expect and I want. You are able to turn this functionality off, if desired. So easy to get going with these too. They came almost fully charged - but I topped it off because I knew that with something new, I I would want to try out EVERYTHING. Shokz includes a very short USB-C to USB-C cord for charging and a fantastic thing: these are also able to charge on my wireless charger! The Shokz app makes it so easy - just press the little button in the case and use Bluetooth to pair and you're up and running. These provide you with up to 50 hours of playback when Open-Ear Noise Reduction is off and up to 12 hours with it turned on. When needed, just place them back into the case for a quick charge to get up and going again. The sound? Absolutely incredible! Yes, you are able to distinguish the amazingly beautiful and rich sounds of the crystal clear highs and deep lows, as well as everything in between. That they can do this without jamming the earbud down into your ear canal is really appreciated. With the app, you have options for EQ modes to adjust the sound more to your liking - I personally enjoy more bass. There are 5 presets and you are able to add 2 customized settings. These can be worn separately, but you will not get the "noise reduction" that way, and of course, it will sound much better with both on. I wear one at night so that I can listen to books, or yes, some social media videos, without disturbing my partner, but I can still hear them talk to me. I suppose we could both wear one to listen to the same thing - I will have to try that! A great feature of these is the "multi-point pairing" which means I am able to pair these with up to 2 devices. It knows which I am using to start and they are able to immediately switch between the two. While listening to music on my laptop with the Shokz earbuds, I received a phone call. With a click of the small button on the earbud, the call automatically went to my earbuds and, I was able to answer the call and the music stopped. It was as crystal clear as it could be - no distortion or static. The caller said the same about their experience. A click of that same button hung up and the music I was listening to automatically played in my ears once again. The little function button on each earbud can be used for almost everything - a single press, double, triple, long press, etc. Each is set to something by default. From within the app, you are able to change most of those functions (from the limited choices available) to suit your wants/needs. Perhaps a future update will provide more options for personalization. With their crystal-clear immersive sound and wrap-around lightweight style, these SHOKZ OpenFit Pro earbuds are unequivocally the best sounding and most comfortable earbuds I have ever experienced. They are also great looking - I have them in white and they are so refined looking. I am so pleased with these, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

The Shokz Openfit Pro are an exciting pair of open ear true wireless earbuds. I have really enjoyed the comfort, ergonomics, and the sound quality these headphones provide. As an adult that lives an active adult lifestyle, I’m impressed with how well these headphones fit my daily needs. The secure fit these earbuds provide is perfect for my aggressive sports as I’m able to jump, sprint, and flip. The headphones stay in place, and I don’t have to fidget with them to keep them in my ears or to keep them in place. These earbuds are super comfortable as they rest gently on the shape of my ear, versus pushing into my ear canal. The comfort is noticeable for long durations of time, and I am loving these on my 90-minute runs. The IP55 water and dust resistant capability has been a welcome addition to my active lifestyle. I have been able to go for rainy and snowy runs in these headphones, all while dripping sweat from my head, and the headphones keep on delivering excellent sound quality. The silicone is soft and feels weightless when placed on my ear. The sound quality is rich and customizable with the Shokz app. These headphones are optimized for Dolby Atmos and the clarity and precision is very nice for usage in various lifestyle moments. The open ear true wireless earbuds work excellent at being able to allow me to be aware of all my surrounding environment so that I can feel safe. This proves especially helpful as I’m a long-distance runner that does a lot of my runs in outdoor nature settings where I’m alone with wildlife, so I want to always be alert to my surroundings. This is also helpful in urban environments when I’m running around traffic or other pedestrians so I can hear my surroundings for my safety and well-being. These earbuds also offer noise canceling benefits if I’m needing to block out some of the external noise which I utilize in my office setting in the workplace. I can still enjoy my music but also turn on the ANC to not have to hear my coworkers chatter nearby. There are physical buttons on each left and right earbud which allow me to change volume, pause my music, cycle through my ANC settings, and accept/decline calls. The buttons can be customized with the Shokz app and tailored to what you’d like them to do for you. The bass quality is excellent in a small form factor earbud, along with clear mid and high notes as well. The headtracking sound is amazing as it truly makes the sound move within your ears as you shift your head direction, and it’s such a cool feature. The Shokz earbuds look very upscale and have a nice design to them. They’re not too bulky visually, and they’re very light when placed upon the ear. The bone conduction technology was a new feature for me to use in a pair of headphones, but it seems to work very well. My music is clear and crisp, and I really like the various preset sound settings to choose from. The Bluetooth range works very well for over 30 feet of distance away from my device. Phone calls have sounded clear and the microphones pick up my audible voice clearly so that the people I’m speaking with always hear me clearly and precisely. The Shokz Openfit Pro have a very nice shell/case to be placed inside of when not in use. The case is a QI charging device that helps to keep the headphones operating for up to 50 hours of play time. The case can also be charged via USB-C. The multipoint pairing works well for someone like me that has multiple devices such as phone, tablet, computer, smart TV. I can easily switch between devices and not miss a beat between my devices. Fantastic pair of earbuds for active and casual lifestyles. The sound quality is very good, and I am happy with the ease of use and portability in these Openfit Pro earbuds.

    Open-Ear Audio Done Right!!

I have had the SHOKZ OpenFit Pro open-ear true wireless earbuds for about a week now, and holy cow, what an experience. I have used other open-ear earbuds before, but these take the cake. Right out of the box, the sound felt right. It was almost like having traditional earbuds in. The lows were deep and solid, the mids flowed nicely, and the highs were crisp and clear. I love the open-ear style because it feels far more immersive to me, and these absolutely deliver. Pairing was instant with zero Bluetooth issues. Even though they sounded great out of the box, I downloaded the app and was blown away by how much customization is available. There are several EQ presets to choose from, including Standard, Vocal, Bass Boost, Treble Boost, Private, and Custom. Bass Boost ended up being my sweet spot. The Private mode is also very cool, as it reduces audio leakage even though these already do a great job keeping sound directed toward the listener. I was pleasantly surprised to see both Transparency Mode and Noise Reduction Mode included. The noise reduction can be set to Reduce, Default, or Enhance. Even with an open-ear design, the noise reduction works surprisingly well. One standout feature is Dolby Atmos, which sounds fantastic. Even better is the Head Tracking mode. It takes about ten seconds to set up, and once enabled, it feels like the music is locked in a stationary position while your head moves around it. It genuinely feels like being at a concert with directional speakers. Pro tip: try listening to your favorite music while slowly spinning around in an office chair. It is mind-blowing. The control customization is another huge win. Each earbud has a button that can be programmed for single click, double click, triple click, press and hold, or single click plus long press. That is a ton of flexibility. Fit has been perfect for me. No wiggle and no risk of them falling out, even when shaking my head and trying to make them move. There is a silicone adapter included for a tighter fit if needed, but I did not need to use it. The charging case is excellent. I love the flat, smooth design. It is slightly larger in length and width than some other earbud cases, but the slim profile makes it easy to slide into a pocket. The matte finish feels fantastic in the hands. The snap when closing the case is also not that loud, which is a win for me. Charging is supported via USB-C or wireless charging, which is a big plus. Overall, I am extremely impressed with everything these earbuds offer. Sound quality, customization, comfort, and build quality are all top-tier. These are now my go-to versatile earbuds. They are perfect for running when you need awareness, working in the office, commuting, grocery shopping, traveling through airports, or relaxing at home while listening to lo-fi hip hop as I write this review. Shokz absolutely nailed it with the OpenFit Pro. I am blown away by these earbuds and would recommend them to literally anyone.

Shokz OpenFit Pro – My New Favorite Earbuds

The Shokz OpenFit Pro earbuds have impressed me from the moment I opened the box. The charging case is slim, high quality, and premium in feel. The earbuds themselves look and feel high end, and the indicator light system is smartly designed. When the earbuds are in the case, the light shows their battery levels; when they’re out, it switches to showing the case level. Battery life is another standout feature. With the case, I get up to 50 hours of total use, which means I can go days without needing to recharge. Even with heavy daily use, I never worry about running out of power. This makes the earbuds super convenient for travel, work, and workouts alike. Setup couldn’t be easier. Just pull the earbuds out and they instantly pair via Bluetooth. I also love that connecting to a second device is just as simple. Place the earbuds back in the case and press the pairing button. Multipoint done right. Bluetooth connection is rock solid. I can walk around my house without my phone and never lose connection. This reliability makes them perfect for multitasking or moving between rooms. The fit is outstanding. The open ear design combined with the secure ear hook style makes them extremely comfortable and stable. I can wear them all day and genuinely forget they’re on. What really surprised me is the noise canceling. For most uses, the noise cancellation is impressive. Shokz manages to deliver effective noise reduction without blocking your ears, which feels almost like magic. However, I did find that when using my tractor, the noise cancellation was not sufficient. In those situations, I need true in-ear cancellation for adequate noise reduction. Sound quality is another highlight. I didn’t expect this level of bass and richness from an open ear design, but these deliver. Music feels full, detailed, and immersive without sacrificing awareness of your surroundings. I also appreciate the mechanical buttons on each earbud. No accidental taps, and the customization options in the Shokz app are excellent. You get Dolby sound adjustments, head tracking, multiple EQ presets (Standard, Vocal, Bass Boost, Treble Boost, Private, and Custom), multipoint pairing, Find My Earbuds, smart wear detection, and latency optimization. I also use these for work calls via Microsoft Teams and have had no issues. The call quality is clear and reliable, making them a great choice for professional use. For workouts, these are perfect. They stay locked in place, and with an IP55 dust and water rating, I never worry about sweat or rain. The only con I’ve found is that there doesn’t seem to be a way to power the earbuds up or down without the case. It would be a great feature to have, especially for those times when I forget the case. Overall, the OpenFit Pro earbuds check every box for me: comfort, sound, features, durability, and ease of use. They’ve quickly become my favorite earbuds, and I can confidently give them a full 5 stars.

The best open ear headphones I've used so far

The Shokz OneFit Pro are great sounding open ear headphones that use their proprietary DirectPitch technology that uses air conduction to direct sound into your ear canal without blocking it, allowing you to be fully aware of your surroundings, while having great sounding headphones. They have also added a cool little trick to these headphones, open ear noise reduction. To start, the OpenFit Pro's are extremely comfortable to wear. They hook over your ear to keep them in place, and I barely notice them when using them. They sound surprisingly good. Better than any other open ear headphones I've used, and better than some in ear earbuds. I've worn them for several hours listening to podcasts, music, and watching shows. Never did I feel any discomfort or fatigue on my ears. To be honest, I'm generally not a fan of open ear headphones. They usually sacrifice sound quality for being, well... open. This is the first pair of open ear headphones I've tried out that made my say, wow, I would consider using these on a daily basis other than going out for walks, exercising, or other activities that require noise awareness. As stated previously, they sound great. On top of that, they have an added feature called open ear noise reduction. At first, I was like yeah right... but then I activated it and was surprised how much of a difference it makes. It works very well in areas like a noisy cafeteria, where there is lots of chatter, it cut a lot of that out and allows you to hear just what your are listening to. It doesn't work well, or at all in noisy areas. For example, I work in an automotive production plant, and it is fairly noisy in there, It didn't make any difference, I could barely hear anything, so these would not be suitable for that environment. The Shokz app also gives you access to a lot of features, like sound effect settings like the EQ and Dolby Audio, and you can switch between Music and Movie Mode. You also get access to Noise Control, and can adjust how much or how little you want. You also get a Latency Optimization mode which I love, because I use these to watch TV at night, and I do not notice any lag with the voices or sound. You can also update your firmware via the app. The OpenFit Pro's are also multipoint capable, meaning they can be connected to two sources, like your phone and a TV. You can watch TV, and still be able to answer calls when they come in. The battery life is rated at up to 50 hours total, and the case is wireless charging capable. I do not see any mention of how long the headphones themselves last on a single charge, but after using them for hours on end, I haven't run into a situation where I was remotely close to needing to recharge them.

I’ve tried and reviewed many different types of headphones, and this is my first experience with Shokz, and I’m honestly very impressed. I wasn’t very familiar with the brand at first, so I did a bit of research and found that they’ve been around for several years and are especially well known for their open-ear, bone-conduction designs. As someone who enjoys running outdoors, these headphones are an excellent choice. The build quality is outstanding, they look and feel premium while remaining very lightweight. Once worn, you barely notice them, and they’re well constructed to withstand sweat and water without any issues. The charging case has a sleek, rounded design with an off-white and gold color combination that gives it a modern, elegant appearance. Removing the headphones from the case is effortless thanks to the magnetic design. The case supports wireless charging and can also be charged using the included USB-C cable. Battery life is another strong point. You can expect up to 50 hours of playback, or 24 hours with noise reduction enabled. The charging case provides an additional 12 hours, for a total of up to 64 hours with noise reduction turned off. Setup is quick and simple, just pair the headphones to your phone via Bluetooth and download the Shokz app. Through the app, you can update the firmware and customize various settings. When it comes to sound quality, these headphones truly impressed me. The audio is extremely clear with surprisingly deep bass for an open-ear design. The fact that they deliver such powerful sound while remaining open-ear is impressive. One of their biggest strengths is the ability to enjoy clear music while still being aware of your surroundings, without the outside noise overpowering the audio. Call quality is equally impressive as well. Voices come through clearly on both ends, making conversations easy and natural. They also support immersive audio features like Dolby Atmos, and the head-tracking technology really stood out. The way the sound shifts with your head movement is incredibly accurate and adds to the overall experience. Overall, the OpenFit Pro is one of the best open-ear headphones I’ve tried, no doubt. With premium build quality, ease of use, and excellent sound performance, they’re a fantastic option for active individuals who enjoy the outdoors while staying aware of their surroundings. In the box, you’ll find the headphones, charging case, USB-C charging cable, user manuals and warranty card.

Shokz, the world's leader in Open-Ear technology, just released their first earbuds with Open-Ear Noise Reduction, named the OpenFit Pro Earbuds. They are optimized for Dolby Atmos and feature head tracking. Three microphones are Ai-powered, to achieve maximum vocal clarity, while reducing ambient sound. People hear & understand my every word, regardless of a noisy environment. The sound quality is truly stunning. Bass is accurate & is very strong, thanks to Shokz SuperBoost & OpenBass 2.0, with huge dual diaphram drivers that measure 11 x 20 mm. Noise reduction can be configured manually with the Shokz app, or the Ai noise reduction algorithm will automatically adjust for noise reduction in real time. Ear hooks made from thin nickel-titanium alloy keep earbuds securely in place. Earbuds will perform up to 50 hours of music, or 24 hrs. with open ear noise reduction activated. The case can be charged wirelessly, or with USB-C. IP-55 rating protects from dust, rain & sweat. The latest Bluetooth 6.1 provides maximum stability & pairs 2 devices, allowing you to switch between smartphone, tablet, or laptop. CONCLUSION: Shokz OpenFit Pro is unique, offering Best-In-Class sound, while achieving this with an open-ear design. It earns my highest recommendation.

Finally, open fit earbuds I don't have to insert into my ear canal! I will use regular earbuds, but if I can avoid them, I would (I have a condition that I would produce quite a bit of ear wax), however any other over the ear or bone conducting ones I have tried on the past, didn't have that good sound quality. Not these guys. The sound quality is amazing, clear and don't leak much outside for people to listen to what you are. They come in a nice charging/carrying case (which can be charged wirelessly or via type C USB cable). Pairing was super easy, just opened the case and they were in pairing mode and paired with my phone. Downloading their app is recommended as they issue firmware updates there (there was one) and also you can further customize them. You can see their battery levels in the app, turn on or off noise reduction mode (kind of ANC) and it does work well, it does reduce outside noisy, however it does introduce a little bit of white noise in its default setting (you can tune it). You can also turn on Dolby audio head tracking (I find this one good for movies or games, but don't like it for music). You can also change sound modes (there is a privacy one in case you want more privacy and no one listening in). You can fully control them with the app, however each one have a little button you click for quick commands (like turn on or off noise canceling, volume up and down, answer and hang up calls etc.). I do like they support multipoint pairing, so I can have them paired to my phone and also to my computer (which does have Bluetooth). If you misplace them, the app will also help you locate them and it has smart wear detection, they will enable once you put them on your ear. Ear fit is great and they go around your ear lobes and the flat part just rests on top of your ear canal. By default the fit was great for me, but YMMV and so they include a couple of comfy silicone inserts to make them tighter if they are too lose for you. Sound quality is great, clear and great for not being inside the ear canals. These are my new favorite ones and I use them all the time, no more putting stuff inside my ear canals and goodbye to ear wax on my earbuds!!

These Shokz earbuds have a bit louder volume than any other open style of earbuds that I have owned. In most instances, I am able to watch movies and listen to music, and have the volume level rarely maxed. The physical button on each earbud is well placed and easy to press. These Shokz OpenFit Pro earbuds do allow for listening to audio with only one earbud at a time. The charging case is made of aluminum and has a soft rubberized coating on the top and bottom of the case. The charging case has the Qi wireless charging capability. The case has a soft closing mechanism, which is better than a loudly closing case. In my opinion, these Shokz earbuds are just the right size, so that they easily fit over the ear, and can be worn for many hours with no discomfort at all. These Shokz earbuds also look quite a bit better on the ear, compared to many other bulkier earbuds. The Shokz earbuds stay on the ears quite well, and they stay securely on the ears a bit better than the type of earbuds which fit directly into the ears. These Shokz earbuds have some of the best battery life of any earbuds that I have ever used. These Shokz earbuds can connect to more than one Bluetooth audio source at a time, in the Shokz app this is referred to as multi-point pairing. I like to keep these Shokz earbuds connected to my cell phone at all times, so that when I am listening to movie or music audio on my computer, then if a call comes in on my cell phone, I can simply press the earbud button once, and this will answer the call. In my testing of these Shokz earbuds, the Bluetooth connects flawlessly to every audio source that I have had them connected to. The Shokz app for Android allows the user to customize the audio with a 10 band equalizer. The Shokz app also shows the remaining battery level of each earbud individually, as well as the remaining battery level of the earbud charging case. I am rating these Shokz OpenFit Pro Earbuds at 5 out of 5 stars, because they are some of the best Bluetooth earbuds that I have ever used.

I have been using Shokz's bone conduction headphones for quite some time now. They are my go to headphones for long days full of calls. But this is going to change with these new ear buds. I have used these for a week and I am simply a fan! Everything about these ear buds is great! Let me give you more details. Let's start with the case. I am not sure what is the case made of but it is quite light, the buds fit in the case without any efforts and it supports both USB-C as well as Qi Wireless charging. It looks very stylish too. There is a button in the case. To pair the buds you put them in the case and press this button for 2-3 seconds. The LED light at the front provides the case battery status. Now coming to the buds, they are light, sit well over the ears even while running on a treadmill at 6.5 mph. There is an extra pair of hooks like things that attach to the buds to give them extra stability. Obviously the open design is my favorite as it allows me to wear these for extended periods of time without any discomfort. There is a small button on each bud that provides the usual controls so that you don't need the phone. I like this better than other earbuds that have touch based controls as the button click is something that I can easily feel and control better than touch based controls. The sound quality is very good. Here are the features when it comes to audio (these can be customized using the app): Dolby Audio Music vs Movie Mode Noise reduction vs Open Mode Head tracking Standard Eq Modes (Vocal, Bass Boost, Treble Boost, Private and Custom) The app also allows: Customization of button controls Find My Buds Firmware Upgrades The app is well designed and easy to use. Overall, as you can probably guess, I really like these earbuds. I couldn't really find a single thing that I don't like about them! Give them a try, I think you would like them too!

I am beyond impressed with these OpenFit Pro earbuds from Shokz. Not only do they have form-factor defyingly good audio, but the just seem to stay on my head and keep the music pumping in situations where my Apple Airpods would have already fallen out of my heads and been rolling all over the filthy gym floor! The first thing I noticed about these OpenFit earbuds is that they just felt different in a positive way. Compared to over-the-ear headphones, I have no sense of claustrophobia while wearing these or troubles with my ears getting too hot (a common issue for those of Irish descent). Compared to in-ear earbuds, these just seem vastly more, as you would guess from their name, open, allowing in outside sounds and conversations and sensory inputs to keep you engaged in your surroundings while working out or just wlking around. The build quality and materials are excellent. Because of the form factor of these wireless earbuds, the case is naturally larger in size than comparative ear buds cases like for Airpods, but it still fits nicely into a jeans pocket or gym bag. Overall, I am so happy with these and glad to have them in my audio product rotation! 5 out of 5 stars easily!

I must confess I am a fan of Shokz, and I own their OpenRun Pro. This means I am comfortable with bone conduction audio. The Shokz Open Fit Pro Earbuds are different from straight bone conduction headsets as there are small bass drivres that face towards your ear (they dont insert in your ear). This helps enhance the audio, particularly for music, videos, and gaming and it makes a big difference. Setup of the Shokz Open Fit Pro Earbuds is easy, there's a pairing button in the the case and they paired quickly with my iPhone. Once paired, the Shokz Earbuds also pair quickly when out of the case. It's really important you download the (free) Shokz app. Not only for the firmware updates, it also enables some other features including tuning the noise reduction, Dolby Atmos, multi-device pairing, head tracking, EQ modes, and customizing the buttons. There's also an ambient mode setting (which I actually used). Most important though is audio quality. These are the first bone conduction earbuds where I have been blown away by the sound. Bass is deep, audio quality is incredible, like wow incredible, like better than the fruit company white ear phones and in a gym, home, office, equivalent to wearing a headset that covers your ears. Yes, that good. Normally, I wouldn't need an ambient mode on bone conduction but for the Shokz Open Fit Pro Earbuds you do. I also tested the Shokz OpenFit Pro on a flight to Florida to visit the in-laws, noise cancelation isn't great for a plane. Which is the only thing stopping me giving the Shokz Open Fit Pro Earbuds 5 stars. I have the Shokz OpenFit Pro Earbuds paired to my iPhone, but wanted to test second device and decided to pair them to my Switch 2. My partner doesn't like it when I game and ignore them, so figured this would let me game and hear them if they asked a question while they watched TV.... and the Shock OpenFit Pro Earbuds audio is so deep, rich, and great I actually couldn't hear them talking to me (that's why I am actually thankful for the ambient mode). There's a few nuances, volume control is not a slider, default settings are click and long press for volume - although you can customize the options. Also, just for me, the noise cancelation levels at a higher level felt a little weird. But outside of this, the OpenFit Pro Earbuds are amazing. Slim case, USB C and wireless charging, long playback, super comfortable, haven't fallen off jogging or exercising, and I absolutely love them. BTW. If you have used or thought about Shokz before, the benefit of the OpenFit Pro Earbuds is there is no rear headband thing, which is a huge plus if you are wearing in a gym and you need to put your head flat on a bench or floor for sit ups, etc. I also find the Shokz Open Fit Pro more comfortable when sitting, as you can lean back in a chair without the rear band interfering.

Best Truly Wireless Active Lifestyle Earbuds Ever

I've gone through a lot of different truly wireless earbuds over the years, and the Shokz Openfit Pro Earbuds check ALL of the boxes and even improve in some key areas compared to other sound solutions I've used in the past. What is different on these earbuds is they don't sit inside your ear canal, which can be fatiguing over time and can even lead to potential ear infections. They hover over your ear and send the sound into your ear via a small speaker. This leads to more comfortable and natural feeling wear over time, but does it come with a trade-off? Not in my opinion! Build Quality and Styling - Wow. The build quality, styling and attention to detail on these earbuds are absolutely perfect and what you would come to expect from a multi-trillion dollar company, not a relatively small company like Shokz. The clamshell case has a metal ring and lip that allows easy open with a bright green LED that indicates charging and pairing status. The Shokz logo is prominent but stylish and the rear has the USB-C connector bump just slightly like its the side of a luxury sports car. The earbuds themselves are a mix of fine mesh, metal, and silicone perfection and just look so futuristic. I got the white headphones and man they will be turning heads for sure. I've worn them on the subway already and had 2 people ask me what headphones these were. Sound Quality - They punch way above their size and weight and while they won't get as loud or sound as good as cans due to the fact they are not in your ear canal or have larger speakers like over the ear cans. These headphones do support 24/96khz lossless over Bluetooth from source material/streaming services that have content that supports it. They also support Dolby Atmos and positional sound for movies/shows. Another neat feature is they have head tracking so that if you turn your head left/right/up/down the focal point of sound will also change accordingly. Very cool and unexpected. Noise Cancelling - yes these have open-ear noise reduction which is pretty amazing. You can control the level of ambient sound as well as how much noise is cancelled. I immediately notice the shift in noise-cancelling as it blocks out all the sound from my PC fans and 3D printer while I am wearing them as well as the loud sounds of the subway while riding. I'm sure it'll do great on a plane as well. Comfort - As mentioned, these are extremely comfortable with all the parts touching your ear made of super soft silicone. The open-ear design not touching the hard inner ear and cartilage of your ear make it very comfortable for long wearing sessions and the wrap around behind your ear like sunglasses make them much more secure feeling compared to in-ear designs. Also, because they don't fit snug into your inner ear, there's no different tips to mess with. Battery life and Specs - I can't really comment too much on this because there's so little info out and available for these, but I've gotten 6 hours of mixed music and call use before needing to charge. It appears as if the case gives roughly 2 charges before it then needs to also be charged. The case does also support wireless/Qi charging which is great if you have a phone/charging stand that supports it. They also support Bluetooth MultiPoint Pairing up to 2 devices and the Shokz App clearly shows what devices are connected so you don't have to manage this from your Bluetooth settings. The app paired my OpenFit Pro quickly and easily as soon as I entered pairing mode (hold down case button for 3-5 seconds until LED flashes). I'm sure there's some IP water proof rating on these but again, I can't find any specs on them so far, but they are built for active use. I'll be putting them through the paces while mowing the lawn, doing yard work, running and biking etc. Love these Shokz Openfit Pro earbuds, I highly recommend them as someone who has tried a LOT of these and never found a pair that checked all the boxes, until now.

The Perfect "Earbuds" When You Don't Want Earplugs

I bought the original version of the Shokz earbuds and ended up returning them for a couple reasons with the biggest being sound quality and fit. I felt they couldn’t compete with Shokz’s standard headphones. But with the release of the OpenFit Pro earbuds, I wanted to try them again and boy am I SO happy I did. These are my new go-to earbuds. I often struggle with earbuds that actually go in the ear. They constantly fall out and I don’t know what’s wrong with my ears but I can never find the right fit. I’ve just given up on them and switched to over the ear closed headphones and my beloved Shokz OpenRun Pros. These are great, but I do wish that I could put those Shokz in my pocket when I’m out and about just in case I need them but unfortunately they are just too big and rigid. But the OpenFit Pros solve this issue. Easy enough to slide the case into my pocket then if I need them, I can pop on the earbuds or even just one if I want to be even more aware of my surroundings. And these are an incredible fit. I am significantly bigger than my partner and both of us had zero issues keeping the earbuds hooked on our ears. The earbuds themselves are so lightweight that there were many times that I just forgot they were on. They are premium comfort that goes hand in hand with premium sound quality. These are truly impressive in the sound department. Incredible separation, volume, and range. I’m using these while working out but also I had them playing audio during the entirety of my 10 hour workdays and would only start getting low battery warnings at hour 10. Popped them in the case for 20 minutes then was able to do a full hour workout at the gym. My tiny gripe is that the case is big and a little heavy. It’s definitely noticeable in a pocket. That’s the only thing that I believe they could improve on. The Shokz OpenFit Pro earbuds are an excellent choice if you want your earbuds to not go inside your ears and don’t want noise-cancelling. If you want incredible sound, awareness of surroundings, while wearing something that you’ll forget you’re even wearing then these are the headphones for you. Shokz has done it again! Pros: Exceptional sound quality Long battery life Easy multi-pairing Very comfortable with great fit Easy to use app Cons: Charging case is bulky and a little heavy

These earbuds have amazing sound depth and clarity! They are "open ear" earbuds meaning that they fit outside the ear canal, not in the ear canal. They are basically speakers that hang close to the ear canal and that may be why they're able to deliver great, immersive sound. The Bass is very impressive; you can actually feel the bass vibrations. The design is great not only for the sound but also for the fit - they can't fall out of your ear like regular in-ear buds are susceptible to doing. Features in the Shokz app include noise reduction, Dolby Audio, equalizer, multi-point pairing (2 devices), Head tracking, and Smart Wear detection. Noise reduction is highly effective, and adjustable. The equalizer has 5 presets - Standard, Vocal, Bass Boost, Treble Boost, and Private, plus the ability to customize. The Private setting is designed to reduce "leakage" of sound that may occur due to the open ear design. That would be good for a quiet environment where you don't want to disturb others. Head tracking is an interesting feature - the balance of the sound moves left to right or right to left as you turn your head, as if the source of the sound was at a fixed point. For example, as you turn your head to the right the sound moves to the left having the effect of the sound source still coming from the direction you were originally facing before you turned your head. Operation is simple. With Smart Wear Detection turned on, the earbuds will immediately start playing music when worn. A single button on either earbud can adjust volume, answer/disconnect/reject calls, play/pause and move to next/last track and turn on/off noise reduction. The earbuds come with a charging case, USB-C charging cable, 2 support accessories designed to help secure the earbuds during wear if needed, user guide, and warranty card. These earbuds have a premium price tag but you're getting premium sound, premium features and a great design. I think they're well worth it.

    Impressive sound-stage for ear buds

Comparing these to classic earbuds pretty much mimics open vs closed headphones. Close, more bass and sound but less immersion. Open, wide sound-stage like you're in the concert but sacrifice some sound because of the openness. So make a choice whether you want louder sounds and isolation or if you want to feel like you're in the sound but still have awareness of your environment. Fitting the OpenFit was kinda weird for me. I wasn't familiar how to get them to sit right in my ear so that they can direct the sound. Even after fidgeting for a bit I still can't get it as good as when I use my fingers to hold them in my sweet spot. But at least where they rest I can still hear what's going on around me, the reason why I wanted these buds. While the sound is great it's still weaker than inserted earbuds. The bass can come out as a buzz instead of a thump and pound but that's a trade-off I'm will to accept. The app has some tweaking settings and doesn't require an account to access the features of your buds. So great job there since I think it's ridiculous to force someone to create an account just to use an equalizer or chance button functions. And speaking of buttons - these are physical buttons! No more accidental taps or wonder if it even registered a tap. You can feel the button depress and know you've pressed a command. Touch buds always leave me frustrated. The OpenFit has noise cancelling, but I think that takes away from the reason for me to use it. It works, but not as good as isolated inner buds. On my tests it does well with steady droning sounds, like a car or window AC blowing. It doesn't handle someone talking very well and almost like the cancelling is non-existent in those scenarios. For me, these buds are perfect for working out. I can hear what's going on while still losing myself in the workout and music. Hopefully these last as long or longer as my old buds did.
