Customers are saying

Customers highly value the improved graphics and addictive gameplay of SimCity: Limited Edition. Many appreciate the challenging city-building experience and affordable price point. However, the game is met with significant criticism due to persistent server issues, an always-online requirement, a restrictively small map size, and the presence of bugs.

I had a ton of issues with the game. The specs did not meet my computer, even though they should. I could not connect to sim city servers. Never got to play the game.

I don't play PC games much, I am a PS3 guy. I also don't play games online and this long awaited release of SimCity clarifies why I haven't tried played online. The release is going horribly wrong from being an online only game. The servers are packed and there are massive issues with even getting to the game setup screen. They may smooth it out later in due time but its ruining the game for me already. The Cons. Way overpriced for what we get. If SimCity 4 was up to date like this new release, it would be perfect., and deserving of a game of the year title. So much freedom is taken away with this new release. Limited transportation, can't control highways, restricted building space no farming and no offline play just to name a few. I should have listened to others to boycott. If I could get a refund I would. Its worth 39.99 but not 59.99. I hope they drop the price within 60 days (silver member) so that I can get something back from the game The pros. The product itself is okay. I like the modular upgrades for buildings. No need for multiple buildings. The addition of bus stop placement and adding garages for different buildings, extend services to limit multiple buildings as well. The region share is cool sharing from city to city. This is only because they restrict you to very small city parameters though. The road building tools, density buildup system and zoning are great. No cost to zone now. I do like the interface. Easy to view and make changes as needed. Its more visual than having graphs now. Although minor, I do like the weather system and the night and day addition even though its automatic. I hope there are patches to gives us more, add some leftout things that was in SimCity 4, give us larger cities or give us unrestricted building perimeters. To be a 10 year wait, they sort of went backwards if you ask me. All the detail they put in the game is cool but it forces us to play restricted. Alot of us have really good cpu's that can handle the game's graphic/detail offline. Being online only, this game is at the mercy of server limitations so we are restricted big time. Apparently they were more concerned about piracy than giving fans a good product. I think they failed unless patches give us back freedom.

This game got a lot of flack when it originally released but I've had lots of fun building cities with my roommates. The city spaces are smaller which people complain about but the way everything is linked together I found it fun specializing. I would recommend this game if you have someone to play this game with since I think it becomes exponentially more fun when doing it together with other players.

Good game with some major flaws

I was so happy when they came out with a new SimCity. I was a huge fan of the last version. I like the graphics, the ability to specialize your city and play with others. I do wish, however, that it was a little more like simcity 4. I miss being able to zone density, create highways etc. With that said I have gotten used to it. Now to the flaws…. As everyone has noted, the map size is way too small. Its basically impossible to create a well running large city because you run out of room very quick. Second, the whole origin/online connection thing is ridiculously annoying. I also don't like not having a manual save. Finally, I believe there are some major bugs in the game. There often comes a point where the traffic is impossible to solve… no matter how many police stations you build crime is still bad… factories complain of no workers yet there are unemployed people in the city…I could go on but it is very frustrating. Overall, EA needs to solve some of these problems before I can give it 5 stars.

    Excellent idea, terrible execution

After reading numerous reviews highlighting SimCity's gameplay while denouncing it's requirement for constant internet connectivity, I decided to take the plunge. I've been playing off and on for the past week, and my overall impression of SimCity is that it's an ambitious attempt to reboot the series but ultimately fails to live up to its promise. First, the internet connectivity requirement: I understand and support the need to stop piracy, but this isn't the solution. Have a poor internet connection? Can't play the game. Traveling w/ no wi-fi? Can't play the game. Want to have the game running in the background at work while your spouse plays at home? Nope. Trying to play in the evening when everyone else is online? Servers are too busy, can't play the game. Yes, you can select a different server, but here's the catch: that city you've spent hours building and refining is hosted on only one server. Selecting a new server means starting a new city. The AI has potential, but suffers some significant flaws. Traffic is number one: Sims will take only the most direct route to their destination, which means they will avoid an empty street in favor of a bumper-to-bumper clogged avenue if the latter provides a shorter route. Adding public transportation helps (though, oddly, subways don't exist!), but it doesn't solve this fundamental issue. EA promises a solution, and it can't arrive soon enough. The city size is small - claustrophobically so. I'm not terribly bothered by this, but I can understand the frustration. SimCity appears to promote density and verticality over spacious landscapes and manicured lawns. The limited size of each city forces you to plan carefully which, afterall, is part of managing a city. You're forced to make tough decisions, such as bulldozing residential zones in order to increase space for fire, police, hospitals, sewage and power plants, etc. I'm fine with this for now, but it does limit how creative you can be when laying out your city. Curved streets are nice but ultimately ineffective because they simply take up too much space. My feeling thus far is that EA and Maxis wanted to steer the series away from the build-the-most-populous-city-you-can style of play, and in that sense, they've succeeded. My current city is fairing well, but only because I'm allowing it to grow slowly and organically. Two hundred unfilled, low-wealth jobs? Add one residential zone. One hundred people unemployed? Add one factory or three small businesses. It's slow and agonizing gameplay, but certainly challenging. I have 15k residents, I'm running a profit, have a few high-wealth luxury apartments, and zero unemployment. I've only used about 40% of my city square, which leaves plenty of room for adding whatever city specialization I desire. EA has no plans to allow offline playing, which is unfortunate because it's crippling what could otherwise be a fantastic game. I've yet to use any of the online features: I'm just not that interested in online play, and I couldn't care less about leaderboards. If they allowed offline playing, I'd recommend the game. Unfortunately, I can't.

Great Game despite early set backs

Let me start off by saying that EA really dropped the ball on launch and everyone knows that they are pretty terrible with customer service/support. Having said that, Sim City is a really fun game. So many people are bashing this game, but in reality many of the patches have fixed irritating bugs and I have really enjoyed playing the game. I think that the newly designed road system is fantastic and made the game more enjoyable rather than tedious (combining electricity, water, and sewage with roads). Further the specializations add new dynamics to the game that make each city much more customizable. Granted this game lacks some of the content that the previous games had (ie military bases, etc.) I suspect those will show up in the form of a DLC such as the amusement park DLC. MY only issue, like many others, is that the maps are far too small. While this is a deal breaker for many, I think that it forces you to re-think your cities and encourages you to create several cities in a region with different specializations, rather than try to cram everything into a super city. Overall, this is a very fun game and the online aspects really enhance the experience.

Overall this is a pretty exciting game however it has been plagued by issues since it's release. The two main bugs are that the map sizes are not that big and you must always have an internet connection to play. However the graphics and gameplay can be very good once you get on. Overall I don't know if you would want to spend forty dollars on this game I would consider waiting for a sale or another price cut later in the year.

A lot of people want this game to be exactly like SimCity 4 which was released in 2003 with everything there untouched but these are different times and even SimCity 4 had its issues which rears its head when gaming(can't use more than 1 Core/Thread and random crashing using Llama speed). So I tell you before you dismiss this game as "RUBBISH," or listen to MetaCritic's elites(Who should not be the end all, be all for companies), please give this game a chance because one thing that even experienced SimCity creators like me had to learn is PATIENCE and strategy because just like population and money don't come as easy as we think in real life don't expect this game to do so either! About the game, I rate it 3.5/5. Not bad.
