This is the second SimpliSafe system I have installed. The first was six years ago in my home. I got married last year, and we ended up selling my house and keeping her house. She had an existing “professionally installed” alarm system that was still under contract, so as soon as that ended, I grabbed this SimpliSafe system to replace it. I absolutely love how easy it is to install and configure. I had it unboxed and operational within an hour. Of course being familiar with SimpliSafe made the job easier, but even so, I think anyone can install this system very quickly.
One of my favorite things about SimpliSafe is how easy it is to pair the various sensors. The keypad is the control center, and it guides you through each step. There are no complicated codes or numbers to remember – just press a button when prompted and the sensor is paired to the system. The window/door sensors could not be easier to install. They come with adhesive foam strips already installed, so you just peel and press to put them in place. My only small criticism is that the adhesive may not stick well to all surfaces. I have a wood door with a rough grain, and the adhesive doesn’t hold strong enough so I used the included screws to attach the sensor more securely. I also did this on my windows because in my other house, I found that they could be knocked loose when lowering the blinds or tilting the window for cleaning.
The base station is modern looking, and small enough that it can be placed almost anywhere. I put mine above the cabinets in my kitchen. That’s a central location in the house, plus its alerts can be easily heard. The power cord was long enough to feed up through the inner gap between two cabinets and plug into an outlet on the counter. Since it has built-in backup batteries and a cellular modem, there’s no worries about power or Internet outages – the house is always protected. From my prior system, I can say that the rechargeable backup batteries lasted about 5 years and are a standard AA size so replacement is simple and inexpensive.
Although this particular starter kit comes only with a required keypad, one motion sensor, and four door/window sensors, it’s very easy to expand the system with various additional sensors and components. Adding additional door/window sensors, motion sensors, water leak, smoke/CO2, and glass-break sensors is super easy. SimpliSafe also offers several cameras and even automated door locks that all work together. And all are very easy to pair with the base station, though some do require a Wi-Fi connection.
The app that works with the system is very well executed. Not only can it do simple tasks like arm and disarm the system, it can monitor any connected cameras and even push alerts during certain events like a camera detecting a person or a door/window being opened. I use an Android phone, and my wife has an iPhone, and the app works almost identically on both. Response time is very good, too, so there is very little delay between the system and the app. Note that you will have to pay the monthly monitoring fee to use the app, but it’s not very expensive and less than any other alarm system I’ve seen. Additionally, whenever I’ve called SimpliSafe, I’ve spoken to a live agent who spoke clearly and was very helpful.
Overall, I am very happy with this SimpliSafe system. I’ve missed having it over the last year, and I am so glad to have my house once again protected by SimpliSafe. I highly recommend this system for anyone that wants better home security.

A Great SimpliSafe 7 Piece Home Security System

This SimpliSafe 7 Piece Home Security System is a winner! Included in the box are:
4 entry sensors
1 base station
1 Keypad
1 motion sensor
1 free month of professional monitoring
Once I opened and unboxed this SimpliSafe Security Kit, the first thing I did was to determine where to install each of the security components that came in the kit. I decided the best use of the system was to install two entry sensors on the front and back doors, mount the motion sensor in a corner wall location overlooking the kitchen, family room and a hallway, place the keypad on a inconspicuous side wall not far from the front door, and the base station in an out of the way location where we could still hear the alerts when they are issued.
Installation was quick and quite easy and did not require any drilling or wiring. I did need a ladder to mount the corner wall motion sensor high on the wall so it could detect motion in the three primary locations I had selected. Once all components were in place, I plugged in the base station and it easily connected to each component. I chose a simple passcode for use with the keypad so each family member could remember it to disarm/arm the system when leaving or re-entering the house.
A smartphone application is available for download from the Apple or Google Play Stores to use to remotely arm or disarm the system or to review if the system is triggered while you are gone from the home.
Note that while professional monitoring is available for a fee once the initial free month is over, there are no long term contracts and no hidden fees whatsoever from SimpliSafe.
I really like the SimpliSafe Home Security System and recommend it without reservation.

Solid Security System

Setting up the SimpliSafe base station and sensors was really easy. The app guides you through the setup process. I like how simple it is to use and how loud the alarm gets when triggered. One thing I didn’t like is that it feels like I’m locked into paying for it, but I understand that’s how monitoring systems usually work when it comes to extra features.
I do appreciate that it’s modular. I can add more sensors or even a key fob, which is great. It gives me peace of mind knowing that if someone opens a door, the alarm can go off and scare them away.
Right now I’m testing the free month of monitoring to see how well it works for my 80-year-old father. He sometimes forgets pins, but so far he hasn’t triggered it accidentally. I put the keypad right next to the door to make it easier for him.
I did have one small mishap. After setting it to Away mode, I walked out and got a notification that the alarm had gone off. I called my dad and he said it was really loud. It might be a sensor placement issue, but either way, it feels good to have that level of security. The app for me being bug free and quick was also a plus. Just a well rounded system. I can’t really complain other than the extras I’d have to pay for. I’m definitely upgrading to more sensors and a camera after a month or two of really deep diving.

One thing about this security system is you can hook these up effortlessly. it took no time at all to hook this up to the Wi-Fi system. One thing I do like about the system is that when there is an emergency and you need assistance, simply safe is able to speak to the intruders potentially avoiding catastrophe. One thing is that you must have a subscription in order to be able to have the monitoring system. They will give you a free trial period to see if this is something that will suit your needs. If you don't want to use the system you are able to cancel it at any time. This comes equipped with four magnets for you to be able to put on your windows or your doors. and also, a motion detector. We put this in our dining room because it its central to the front door and windows so if an intruder tries to enter, this motion detector would cover a large range. If you are on the fence about this security system, I say give it a try. We are thinking about getting the cameras that go along with this just to make the security system complete.

DIY Home Security Made Easy!

Traditional home security companies always cost a fortune for equipment and service fees. So DIY solutions are pretty much one of the best options these days - especially if you choose to not to subscribe to a monitoring service. SimpliSafe has been one of the most well-known brands in the DIY home security space for years and my first experience with the brand/system has overwhelmingly been a positive one.
SYSTEM - Right out of the box, you are presented with all of the components of your system, which includes the base station, wireless keypad, four door/window sensors, a motion sensor, and an outdoor sign with yard stake. All of the materials are simple in design and made of plastic. The keypad can be installed by screwing the baseplate to the wall or with double-sided stickers (both of which are included). While the base station includes an internal battery that supposedly lasts up to 24 hours (in case of power failure of if it is yanked from the AC outlet) it does come with a unique power cable that allows you to screw in the power cable to your AC outlet fixture for further security measure. There is an included free one-month trial to monitoring service with free cancelation any time after that should you continue with the service. While I have not yet chosen to take advantage of the promotion, it's nice to know it's available to see what the fuss is about. Especially for those transitioning from a traditional security system to DIY.
INSTALL - Installation was fairly quick and easy. You begin by downloading the SimpliSafe app, creating an account, and connecting your base station to your account. From there, it's a matter of following on-screen instructions on how to add accessories (like door/window sensors), complete with a guide of where to place them on your door/windows. You can use the keypad to arm/disarm the system or the app itself. One notable thing about the keypad is that it is removable from its baseplate, so you can keep it static in one place wherever you choose to mount it, or move it around the house as you see fit. The app is pretty clean and easy to navigate. I never had any issues using it during setup, or throughout my time thus far with it.
OVERALL - Since Google decided to kill and brick my Nest Secure system, I've been needing a replacement DIY home security solution. Thus far, SimpliSafe has been a great replacement in terms of quality of components, easy of app usage, and ability to expand my setup in the future with additional accessories. (I'm looking at adding cameras in the future!) While I currently do not plan on subscribing to a monitoring plan, it's nice to know that option is there if needed. There are several DIY home security systems on the market, but SimpliSafe has long been one of the brands that have been top-of-mind and at the forefront of technology. I've been impressed with my experience these last couple of weeks and I'm sure it will last for the next many years to come. If you're on the fence, I'd say go ahead and spring for it. If you need more options, look for the larger kits as they provide more value than buying ala carte.

SimpliSafe Indoor Security System Sensor Monitor

TL;DR:
SET UP: It was easy to set up…download the app, plug in the base (and let it update its software), and place the sensors where you want them.
USE: It’s easy to check and monitor everything in the app.
USABILITY: Everything works well for my sliding glass door and windows.
OVERALL: It feels like the old-school security systems I grew up with, but properly updated with a useful app.
REVIEW:
I’ve been using cameras from a competitor for several years. I like them, but I wanted something more. I’ve integrated the SimpliSafe Indoor Security System with the SimpliSafe Doorlock. I will integrate the cameras next. This works well. I grew up with a traditional security system. It always worked well, but I never knew what was actually going on at home when I wasn’t there. I know there have been a lot of updates over the years, but I hadn’t upgraded. I have been looking for something like this system for a while. It’s nice to be able to monitor from afar and know when a door or window has been agitated. I set these up around my house on windows and doors. Setup was quick and easy. I may have spent a total of 30 minutes, probably less, for installation. It was very easy and intuitive to install.
Everything seems to have a subscription these days, and this is no exception. There is a free self-monitoring version and the optional paid plans with a free trial. The paid monitoring plans give you more and aren’t overly expensive. I don’t want another subscription, but this is worth it and gives added peace of mind.

Your Safety is Simply Pay-Walled

SimpliSafe is touted as a DIY alarm system that is easy enough for your ordinary home owner to install and provide peace of mind while you are home or away. And in theory, it can do that, as long as you want to continue to pay ever month for service. Unfortunately this takes SimpliSafe out of the niche they were based on and puts them in the same boat as other name brand competition.
Overall, this system is simple to set up. As a Tech Insider, I would like to think I have a fair amount of hands on experience, so the setup process did come naturally to me and I have zero complaints. You receive a Base Station with every kit that is the brains of the system. You will use the SimpliSafe app to set up this device first, and the app will walk you through pairing your keypad and sensors. The most involved part of setting the system up is removing battery pull tabs and pressing a pairing button. Its really that simple. Great Job on that part, SimpliSafe. Setup, including firmware updates, 4 door sensors, a motion sensor, a keypad, and adding additional keypad PINS tool me no longet than 30 minutes, and that was working at a very comfortable pace.
SimpliSafe and Best Buy do offer a lot more variety of sensors and equipment to fit your specific needs as well.
During setup, you will be asked if you want to self monitor or subscribe to a monitoring service. This can be helpful if you want the alarm system to dispatch 911 services on your behalf in the event of a triggered alarm. In all of my experiences with SimpliSafe, they have offered a free month of professional monitoring with install. This is a great way for you to find out if this is something that is worth your hard earned money without having to commit. After that, services run around $30-60/mo depending on level of service.
SimpliSafe does allow the system to be used without a monitoring subscription, but lets you know that the user will have limited access. LIMITED is right! As a DIY'r installing a DIY system, I feel very comfortable keeping an eye on my own property and contacting emergency services as needed. Unfortunately, SimpliSafe blocks you from assigning multiple users to the app without a subscription. You can bypass this by sharing your master login with other users that need access, which is not recommended, but will work. However this leads us to the next problem. The SimpliSafe app will not even send the master account holder a push notification if an alarm is tripped without a subscription! What is the point of this system if it wont even notify you that an alarm was tripped???
This is a huge hangup for me as SimpliSafe has put your safety secondary to a subscription fee. SimpliSafe has always been marketed as a DIY system that will make the homeowner feel more protected. However with their business model and price point, I would explore other options as SimpliSafe has locked out their intended market.

We purchased this for my daughters apartment. It was an easy set up and we get to see the alerts along with her. And so worth the money.
