Good game for real skaters or simulation players

Summary: If you like simulation games and want to be in a sandbox environment where you do what you want , then this game if for you. If you want a more arcade, beat your own score not have to worry about precise button press then go with Tony Hawk Pro Skater remake. Skater XL is a simulation game that throws you in a sandbox and you pretty much do what you want. You spot a little plaza in downtown LA, go there and do what you want we the environment. Thats pretty much is the core of the game. Graphics and sounds: ok. I wish they had better music selection. Sounds like generic soundcloud music. I think after a week you'll turn off the misic. All other sounds are very realistic. Controls: You use X to push, R1 and R2 to steer direction. The main controls for tricks are the Analog sticks (L3/R3) which represents your left foot and right foot. For example hold down R3 and let go you do an Ollie, slightly press R3 down you do a Manual,. Hold down R3 and L3, Move R3 to the left then L3 to the left and do a Tre Flip. Easy right? Well just like in real life practice makes perfect and it will be second nature. There is an extensive amount of tutorials for you to learn plenty of moves. Console versions do not benefit from the community created mods from PC, even though they said they were available at launch, they weren't. now they will be Holiday 2020. Definently if the game goes on sale for $20 its worth it for console. If you can play on PC get the PC version to benefit from community creations.

Awesome game! The graphics were incredible on the PS5. This is easily the most realistic skating game I have ever played. Controls are easy to figure out, and all tricks look different. There are no set animations for tricks. Everything, from the look of the trick to the speed of it is decided by the player. There are a ton of maps to choose from, and official mods you can download. You can’t play online or split screen, though, and there’s no story mode. I’d give it an overall 99/100.

Currently the best skateboard simulator available

Skater XL is an excellent skateboarding simulator. Not to be confused with titles like Tony Hawks Pro Skater or EA Skate, this game does not focus on points or combos. While the other titles take more of an arcade approach to skating, Skater XL is focused on making the skating feel real and every trick landed is a true reward. If high scores and combos are what you like, this game is not for you. If you are a real skater, you will respect this game more due to the fact that it’s more of a sim and doesn’t focus on high scores, but simply having fun conquering different props on assorted maps that are based on real spots. Also, the game is in its early stages and should see many updates, add-ons, and overall improvements before the life cycle of the game is over.

This is a great game, but I can only really recommend it to diehard skateboarding fans. Don't come into this game expecting EA's Skate or THPS. This is a skateboarding simulator made from an indie developer so you have to expect it's a little lacking in extras. There are a few maps (hopefully updates add more) and the controls are great, however there isn't really a point to the game other than to skate around and do tricks. Don't get me wrong, that is awesome, but it's definitely not for everyone. Unless you are a true skate rat, this game will probably get boring pretty quick for your average gamer.

Nice open world skate game alternative to the game SKATE. Nice tutorials on how to do tricks and game flows very well. Lots of stages and things to skate.

Pretty cool game. A bit buggy, but they are updating the game frequently. If you want a realistic- style skate game with simple free ride (no challenges or missions), It’s good.

Fun little game, but there are very few maps and not much to do. Learning curve is a little difficult but once you get the hang of it, landing tricks is very rewarding. Only other complaint is the sheer number of glitches and bugs that can make learning a line difficult.

As a skater and a fan of skate games, I appreciate the authenticity and care that the developers put into this game. Hopefully there are more updates because it can be glitchy sometimes and could use more maps, challenges, etc.

Great skate boarding game In a market where there aren’t many to choose from. Also good for creativity as you can create your own tracks that can be shared online. My kids really like being able to create and show us.

Best skateboarding game since skate 3. I would buy again 1000%. Super realistic with its movements of the characters. Cool mods to customize your character too. New maps get dropped by the community.

Definitely not like the Tony hawk series. Similar to the Ea skate series. Controls like the skate games. No storyline at all, graphics are a lil glitchy at times. Fun game just to skate around and pass time.

Awesome game, and if you're a fan of skateboarding and the EA Skate series, I think you'll like this. It's harder to control and the control scheme is harder to get use to, but it makes landing tricks much more rewarding when it happens, and no two tricks flick and feel the same, which keeps the game feeling different every time. It's still tough for me to control as of today, but it's great overall.

Hands down the best skateboarding game ever made. Does take a while to get used to controls, but offers the most realistic skate gaming I have ever seen. Its fun, its tricky. Hopefully more online stuff gets added or levels in the future, but it easily might be one of my favorite games of all time.

Love this game. Perfect for 45-60min sit downs. I think those that have skated in real life will enjoy this game. Better described as skate simulator What i love: - realism - board sensitivity is awesome - you can do slow/fast flip tricks and add your own sense of style to each trick. Loved it - challenge - i had to think about my tricks/lines before attempting and i loved that doing tricks switch is actually more difficult than normal. It adds a really fun challenge. I got a lot of satisfaction from finding a spot, planning my line, and stomping it after several tries - in-game challenges - really helped me ramp up the learning curve and added some purpose to an otherwise free play game - mod support - added new maps and clothing options. Great addition - original maps - people complain that there isn’t a ton of content in the beginning which i get (only 3-4 maps), but i feel like i get a lot of utility of the original maps. They force players to get creative with what’s available in each location

Very fun game that's challenging and realistic. The maps are sick and the developers even include the community. This game has lots of potential and is on track to be the best skate game yet. (Arguably already the best skate game out)
