Customers value the fun and engaging gameplay of Skylanders Imaginators, especially its ease of use and character customization options. Many appreciate the compatibility with older Skylanders figures and the convenience of the NFC reader in the Joy-Con controllers. However, some customers express concern about the accumulating cost of purchasing additional characters.

Interesting version of the game

If you are reading this you are probably curious like I was as to how this version of the game compares to that of the other consoles. I had held off on buying Imaginators in hopes of the game being discounted around this point, but when I saw it was available on the Nintendo Switch I decided to add it to my new console to help break it in.
That said I haven't played any other iterations of this game, aside from past entries including Superchargers on both the PS4 and Wii U. As I started with the Wii U version of Superchargers I wanted to be able to use the Nintendo-centric characters (DK and Bowser) on a Nintendo console that would support them. So for this reason I was going to go with either the Switch or originally the Wii U version of the game. The game seems to run at 720p no matter whether docked or in handheld mode. Docked it will upconvert to 1080p, but the image looks rather soft like the Wii U version of Superchargers. This resolution is great on the Switch handheld as it's native resolution is 720p. If you were okay with the Wii U game this one won't disappoint. It feel the Switch could handle a higher resolution like 900p or even 1080p on this title, but there are no options to change this and it would require a future patch from Activision. While this doesn't seem likely it's quite possible that future iterations of the game could be better optimized.
Load times seem to be on par with Wii U as well, again not bad, but somewhat noticeable. Aside from that the game appears to be the full game with the omission of being able to use vehicles and traps.
Figures scan into the right Joy-con thumbstick or the center of the Pro controller, and no portal is included or needed. Vehicles you own when scanned will give several items for character creation, but can't be used in game aside from this feature. I did run into a few issues scanning figures, namely when scanning the Thump Truck vehicle on the Pro controller wouldn't work because of it's raised height from large tires. But this vehicle would scan without issue on the right Joy-con thumbstick. And Tree-Rex wouldn't scan in on the Joy-con, but worked great on the Pro controller. I have over 100 figures and vehicles but these issues only happened on around maybe four or five figures, so if you have the Pro controller use it with these problematic scanning figures. Figures must be scanned twice to add them to your game, allowing you to select them anytime after that without the figure being needed. If you scan them only once you can use them in game, but when you go to the character select screen they will be almost greyed out with a message to scan the figure a second time to unlock them. It's great to have your entire selection of characters available on the go without physical figures.
The character selection screen is very poorly designed and you have to scan left to right only viewing the tokens of four characters at a time. It can be quite nauseating to scroll through them all and I found looking at their names versus tokens helped some. Selectable characters are left in the order in which you scan them into the game so scan the characters you will use most into the game last so you have less characters to cycle through to find the ones you want. The exception seems to be Swap Force characters that the game automatically deposits at the far left of the character select screen causing the most time to scroll through other characters first from right to left in order to reach them. Hopefully this is fixed in the future with a screen with each element and then when selected lists pages of 10-20 characters at a time. But that I would say is my biggest criticism of the game at this time and it looks like it is something that could be easily fixed. If you don't have many characters the character selection is barely passable, but for fans of the game with large collections it can be a headache.

At roughly $30 while on sale with GCU, the game is pretty good.
Resolution is alright while docked, but it is not so great while undocked. Framerate is fine but has some slow down occasionally, at least while docked. Perfectly playable though.
I've read that about half of all levels are locked behind the other kits you can buy. If you're relying solely on this starter pack, you'll have to be okay with not having access to a bunch of levels.
For the starter pack, the game lasts 10-20 hours in single-player, but I imagine you can half that estimate for co-op.
It's fun beat em up action with lite platforming. Difficulty can be adjusted, which is great.
You're constantly unlocking items and picking up money, which feels very rewarding for my brain.
Overall, good if bought at a low price.

Kid friendly third person action adventure RPG with plenty of items, characters, abilities, and other collectibles to unlock and keep you busy for a good 20+ hrs.
Good amount of content with plenty of variety in quests and bosses for this style of game. Fun to simply wander around exploring and trying out the different spells while customizing your characters. Wish the camera had some controls or alternative angles available and the graphics weren't so blurry at times, but overall it works.
For the Switch, this is probably the best action-adventure RPG option available if you like collecting loot, customization, and leveling up different characters. If those things interest you, definitely worth picking up.

My child is 5 and I'm just starting to let her play video games (on a time limit), but I like what this game has to offer. It's easy to just pick up and start playing, and with a little help she was exploring worlds and having a blast in no time. The only reason I rated 4 stars is because having to buy the characters isn't cheap, and is clearly just a way for them to make more and more money off of 1 game title. Characters can range from $14 and up, and I bought her a few extra. However, kids get bored easily so I'm sure she'll want more figurines before long.

Great game, in this version it saves your characters just like in the 3ds versions so you don't have to worry about carrying the figures around. Just keep a note that it only has story mode no race mode like in the ps4 and xbox one versions.

Look, after playing The Legend of Zelda, Breath of the Wild, it's kind of difficult to give any other game 4-5 stars. This is a casual fun game and my son was able to use his old Skylanders from Xbox so that is a plus. I also like using the NFC reader in the controller to bring the characters in game rather than having to hook up a portal to the Switch dock. One note of caution, we are unable to use the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller with this game. Every time we tried, it worked for a while and then froze the system with an error code. Hopefully this issue will be fixed in an update soon.

I never played a skylanders game before this one. I have to say it is a fun hack and slash game. You create your own character and level them up through out the game. Well worth the money and I will be buying future installments.

My son, 8, had played skylanders since the second game always on wii u so I could watch TV or play a game while he used pad. Getting this on his switch for not only less than it cost on other consoles but no longer needing a portal makes this the best version by far.

This feels like a Disney game. It's story seems like it's geared toward younger kids but the game has a lot of things to do and a lot of variety. It also has a huge amount of character customization so you can make your perfect character. It has like a hub world and there are levels on the map you can access. It's pretty much a platformer with light rpg elements but it's pretty fun. It comes with figured and you tap them to the controller you can play as them. It also comes with a lantern to make your own character. You can purchase other character pieces to scan but you don't really need them.

My boys love this game, and it's fairly easy to play. I wish the co-op was a little better as my sons 5&6 don't last long together. Strangely though, they almost never die alone. It does encourage them to play with more characters. That I guess is a good and bad thing. I really liked that you could bring in toys from older games except the cars. I just bought some of the supercharger series characters for $2 a piece. Out makes the time my boys can play together last much longer for a lot cheaper than $10 a crystal or $15 a sensei.

Got it on clearance its fun. Not a fan of having to buy more figures to unlock things in game. The games are expensive enough.
