Slap who?
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Another side of Paul Newman! You always new he could do light comedy but this was over the top. Suddenly a movie about soccer which includes (maybe?) everything you suspected about the game. Newman plays a somewhat likeable character who just wants to do something for his players (a cynical owner has bad plans for the team) and stay close to his ex wife. The supporting cast is funny and excellent, the ending classic. I ranks with Major League as one of the best sports comedies ever!

"Scouts?"
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have always just absolutely adored this film! With Paul Newman you can never go wrong but this movie is just super fun - particularly if you can remember what hockey games were like back in those days. If you have enjoyed movies such as The Replacements, Wild Cats, Major League and Semi-Pro but have not yet seen Slap Shot, definitely add this to your queue! You do not have to be a hockey fan to enjoy this film, but this film may enhance your enjoyment of hockey!

Entertaining Sports Movie
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review."Slap Shot" was one of the most entertaining sports movies I've seen. I had never seen the movie prior to buying the DVD. I had heard good things about it, and I'm glad I was finally able to see the movie. The Hanson Brothers really make the movie that much more enjoyable. Kudos!

One of the funniest films of the seventies.
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was Paul Newman's third collaberation with this director and they make a great team together. Paul Newman is the coach of a semi-pro hockey team that is bad in every way. They start to play rough to get some exposure and it pays off for them. The team is a band of misfits can't seem to get a break until three brothers come along. Then the stakes get more competitive and it makes for a very funny conclusion.

Paul Newman, need I say more!
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a rare style of movie for Paul Newman but it’s really enjoyable! This movie brings out the humorous side of Paul While also illustrating his mean to the bottom side. Not a great movie but a really good movie if you want to sit down with some popcorn and have a good laugh! There is no failure to communicate in this movie!

Best Hockey Movie Ever!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you have never seen Slapshot, you really should. It perfectly captures having a dream but not making it to the top of the profession, and just continuing to chuck away in the minor leagues. Many funny scenes, and a lot of fun. It also really captures the 1970s well - a much freer time than today. This blu-ray is the nicest I've seen the movie and well worth buying.

Classic movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The actors are great, story is great. This just reminds me of so many classic movies from the 70's and 80's that only show their age in the clothes and world. The story, dialogue, and actors make this a timeless classic to be. You don't have to love hockey to appreciate the movie but it definitely adds to the overall film.

Great price for a true classic
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. They don't get much funnier than Slap Shot. The Blu-ray is probably the best it will look and sound, pretty decent clarity for an older movie, solid color and grain is intact, not washed away by digital manipulation, thank you Universal. Lossless mono sound is serviceable and as I say, it won't get better than this.

Slapshot, A sports classic
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Slapshot is a classic as far as sports related movies go, Paul Newman does a great job as the player/coach of the team. When he hears of an impending sale of the local mill and that the team is going to be shutdown, he decides he is going to try and see if he can get the team sold somehow. To show that the team isn't going to just roll over and die, he is able to get them to play together and play tough.. sometimes to tough, mostly in part thanks to the Hanson Brothers.

Went to the 'fights' and a 'hockey game' broke out
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A truly funny look at a failing, minor league, hockey club and their management's efforts to build their fan base so they could survive in one of the toughest venues in the world of sport. Really funny sport movie with a bunch of lovable characters headed by Paul Newman in a novel role, which he handles with humorous perfection, as the coach of a bunch of singleminded, rowdy bunch of guys.

In Honor of Don Rickles...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had to honor the man who made "hockey puck" a comedy term. This movie ALSO made hockey puck comedy but more for the sport. Face it, you're watching this for the hockey morons and the Hanson Bros (who may or may not be morons according to your definition BUT they're loveable!). Very, very good value for the buck. An absolute steal at $5.99... Get this -- or you really ARE a hockey puck!

A Superb Sports Comedy
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Newman acts the part of a losing Coach/Player of the Chiefs – a hockey team that down-and-out trying for a comeback. This is a film that is an “adult” sports comedy and it is in the class of a “fun” watch. And, there’s that added benefit – there’s a “hard” laugh in each scene.

Classic Hockey Movie Looks Very Good On Blu Ray
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you like Hockey this is a must own or if you like comedy you should check this out. The Hanson brothers are great! I read that this the most fun Paul Newman had making a movie. I was impressed with the quality of how the film looks on Blu Ray especially given that it was not a big budget movie from the seventies.

A true Newman and American classic
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. An American Newman Classic. There are so few Newman Blu rays on the market and if there could only be a few this is definitely one you'd choose. The only other one you'd want would be Nobody's Fool. The Hanson Brothers and Newman will lift your spirits and remind you of how "old Time hockey" was once played.
