I bought the Cujo today, and I set the return in process in today. This gadget sounds so great and it has such shining reviews that I thought it's what I needed. Problems? First, it's a migraine to set-up, even if Customer Service is on the phone helping you. Even after we thought problems were solved, my Amazon Alexa and Samsung Smart TV wouldn't function correctly. When I called back, the representative sounded like he'd re-read the Do-as-Little-as-Possible-and-Still-Get-Paid Manual. That's when I folded and started the return. I wanted to like this device, but for the money it's not worth owning. It proved too difficult to orchestrate all types of wireless devices from numerous manufacturers under the shield of Cujo's capabilities. It's a headache, not a helper.

Ended up returning this device. It would work for a day or so then just stop filtering traffic. It gave my daughters devices issues connecting to sites that I had in the allowed list. Also needed to be rebooted manually every couple of days. Not worth the hefty price of two hundred and fifty dollars.
Also contacting support was a pain as well. I asked them a simple question as to why the device does not have a reboot option from the app and they could not give me a good reason as to why, just "It might be coming in the future" response.
I tried it for 30 days and it got worse with everyday on my network I really wanted to like this and make it work but after my daughter complaining that some youtube would not load at all (it was in the whitelist for her profile), it went back to best buy yesterday. I will find something else that filters out traffic.

Cujo does not work well with mesh wifi systems. You can still get it to work after a lot of changes to your existing setup. It seems to be meant for more of a basic setup. You are supposed to leave it connected for a few days so that it can learn your network but it started to disconnect almost everything from x-box live to spotify thinking it was a threat.

I bought my CUJO around 4 months ago and I am liking it. It blocked many attempts from untrusted sources from accessing some of my IoT devices.
I would recommend this product to anyone that wants to make sure that their internet connected devices are safe at home.
Pros:
-Easy to use
-Easy to setup
-Support is very fast if you use the chat in the CUJO webpage
-Companion app helps you identify the devices connected to your home.
-Updates come often (at least one per month) and add functionality or fix issues.
-CUJO's team is always trying to improve
-You get notifications to your phone.
-They have a lifetime subscription for a limited time.
-I get around 5-15 notification from CUJO telling me that it blocked dangerous webpages or other kind of dangerous activity.
-So far, I have not experienced any problem trying to access my IoT devices from outside of my home.
-I have not experienced any problem with my internet speed since I installed my CUJO.
-I have an Xbox One and a gaming PC and I haven’t had a negative impact on my gaming experience.
Cons:
-It can take around a week to get an answer from support if a ticket is opened for you.
-The detection system doesn't have a constant behavior. Sometimes it blocks a webpage, but if you visit that same webpage some days later, it might not. This MIGHT be fixed with the latest firmware.
-It doesn’t detect my managed switch and doesn’t completely recognize my router. Support tells me that they are working to fix this issue which is related to my router model/brand. They also tell me that this could be the reason why I don’t see a constant behavior in CUJO’s detection system.
-Some times the notifications don't appear on your phone until you open the CUJO app.
Notes:
-If you are looking to change some settings, view logs, etc. You won't be able to do it with CUJO. This device is designed to be easy to use.

I was looking for a firewall to protect my home network. Cujo does that and allows me to monitor every device that is connected. Any new device that connects, I get notified. Love it.

I have a fairly extensive home automation system. I have lots of devices in my home and was initially excited to add a layer of security to monitor all those devices. This was advertised to be plug and play. It is not. Mine booted up in standby mode and required intervention from Cujo to get working. After being setup incorrectly the first time, it was working. My printer connected to my wifi, I received a notification on my phone. That was the first and last one I received. Wifi is dropping constantly, my Amazon Echo's have become unresponsive at times requiring a restart, and the Cujo app is cludgy and awkward. It sounded like a great idea, but needs ALOT more R&D before it can be deployed effectively and reliably in the real world. Hopefully Best Buy pulls this item from their shelves and replaces it with a more reliable product! I am currently emailing back and forth with Cujo support to get these issues resolved, but for now, I would talk to a Best Buy associate about an alternative to this.

Extra Layer of Protection.

I purchased one of these a couple of weeks ago to replace my SonicWall TZ105. It was easy to setup. You have to know a little bit about how to get into your router and turn off DHCP. They provide the instructions and it's easy. If you are use to playing with your firewall and checking logs you're not going to be able to do that with Cujo. Cujo is a set it and forget it device. It works in the background automatically.
Excellent for folks that want protection with no hassles.
Since I've had it, it alerted me a couple of times about my son's computer and cell phone. That he was visiting malware sites and the connection was stopped. That was cool. The alert showed up on my cell phone. I tried running Zen Map against the IP addresses behind the firewall and was unable to detect any available host. So Cujo is protecting all the connected devices.
If you have a household with a lot of IoT connected (TVs, Cameras, Thermostats, Alarm systems, phones, computers and tablets, etc) it's a good layer of protection. It also protects visitors that use your WiFi. I have a total of 28 devices connected (including friends that visit). And with all of that there is no latency (delay) getting to the internet.
In the IoT environment and with the internet turning into the wild wild west, an extra layer of protection is nice to have and almost necessary. Go out and get one and add that extra layer of protection. It's worth the money.

I've had my CUJO for about 4 months and am well pleased. Had a couple of initial setupissues with my home network and had a video conference with tech support and it was fixed in minutes.
This device stops on average 3 potential issues a day. Not that my wife and I go to weird places, it is amazing how many mainstream websites have problems with embedded codes that can cause issues.
I find support very timely and any question has been answered to my satisfaction.
I am technically competent with computers but just didn't want to go through configurations and remembering to update drivers and firmware on other firewalls. This device sits in the background and is works fine.
I get alerts on my phone if there are any problems.
Would buy again and have recommended to others.

This type of product is definitely needed to protect your internet of things devices. If you are going to have a smart home, then you better invest in something like Cujo to protect it. Hackers try to find the weak link into your smart home through IOT devices with poor or no security. Cujo was able to pick up the mac addresses, but was not able to identify all of the devices connected to my wi-fi. I already knew the mac addresses of my devices, so it was easy for me to identify them. I was disappointed that a security device like Cujo wasn't immediately able to identify them.
I liked my Cujo, but ended up returning it because it appeared to slow my internet down a bit, and I really want to hold out for the Norton Core which does the same thing without adding yet another device to keep track of, or interfere with my bandwidth. Norton has also been around a lot longer, so it's reputation is better known.
I have to say that Cujo's customer service was outstanding. They responded quickly to my complaint when Cujo wouldn't recognize a device. But I recognize that they are a new start up company, and only time will tell if they will be around for the rest of my internet life.
In order to set Cujo up, you have to go into your router and change a few settings. It felt a little scary to have to hack into my router to make Cujo work. Not everybody has the confidence to make such changes, but if you do, the instructions Cujo provides are very easy to follow.
Cujo receives high rankings around the net. It's worth at try for sure. It just wasn't the best solution for me.

Hi, First and foremost, thank you for the honest review. I'm glad that you see the importance of network security, in these times it is definitely needed. I see that you mentioned that you contacted our support but your issue was not fully resolved. Maybe you could give us another try? If you would send an email at [email protected] I would be sure the ticket would be handled by our most Senior 2nd level technician. We want to make sure everything was done to your CUJO that it would properly function.I am sorry for all of the inconveniences and again, thanks for the review.

I have had Cujo in operation for nearly a year and am very pleased with the results it provides. I have over 20 devices connected to my network, and they have varying levels of security built in o running, ranging from sophisticated to none (internet of things - IoT, for example. The Cujo device discovers and blocks even the most seemingly benign connections (for example, connections that appear to be to advertising/data collection sites) to more dangerous and sophisticated attempted connections.
My network is not terribly complex, but the presence of a Verizon FiOS media server connected to a secondary bedroom unit via a MOCA network connection initially presented a challenge. But this enables me to mention what's also great about Cujo, and that the technical support. Int eh rare event that you run into an issue with Cujo, you can rest assured that you will EASILY contact technical support, and they will respond quickly to help you overcome any issues, even if you call off-hours in the U.S. The English-speaking techs are in North America and Europe, and they not only know Cujo but they also have your back in making sure that Cujo does the job with your network.
Because of the excellent technical support, you don't have to worry if you're not the most technically-savvy customer; Cujo tech support is like having your own IT team available to take care of your Cujo-related issues.
Because of this reliable hardware, the software that's driving it, and the excellent tech support, I highly recommend Cujo. You won't be sorry if you buy and install this device.

Hi Phil, Having CUJO for almost a year would make you a true veteran of CUJO, I'm really glad CUJO is working out for you. During your year you probably witnessed a lot of changes and feature implementations, hopefully, we can agree that CUJO is advancing at a fast pace. I just wanted to tell you that CUJO will continue to better itself for years to come! As there is no time to be idle when trying to protect the world. Thank you so much for the review and for using CUJO. If you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them at [email protected]

The greatest thing about CUJO, besides the fact that it will immediately notify you that you have a new device on your network (which is a great feature if you didn't put it on your network yourself -- duh), but it also stops any and all Internet traffic from your devices from visiting websites that are malicious, such as spam sites, malware distributors, or other nefarious destinations that the bad guys put out there to ruin your computer, hijack it, or otherwise ruin what was actually a pretty great day. Not only that, but the CUJO app is awesome. You'll be notified immediately whenever CUJO has worked some kind of magic that protects you and your family from ne'er-do-well living in their parent's basement and spend all their waking hours drinking Mountain Dew and eating Cheetos, looking for ways to hack into your network. Yeah, those losers. Or better yet, it frustrates the cyber thieves out there living who knows where, who would like nothing more than to drain your bank account or steal your identity. Need I say more?
