I bought this game specifically for the nostalgia of it all. I had the opportunity to play this game and it was worth my while.I remember back in the day I used to spend a buttload of quarters to play these games and now I plan at my leisure... Thank you SNK and Bestbuy.

SNK's 40th Anniversary Collection has several classic SNK run and gun 2D shooters like Ikari Warriors, Victory Road and Guerrilla War plus arcade STGs Alpha Mission, Prehistoric Isle in 1930's, T.N.K. III and Vanguard. Plus 11 more games will be released via free DLC on 12/11/18 including Time Soldiers, Chopper I, Bermuda Triangle, World Wars and Ozma Wars. An excellent collection of SNKs arcade games -- mostly run and gun and vertical scrolling shooters-- SNK's 40th Anniversary Collection has several console games as well as arcade originals; for example the collection includes the NES versions of Ikari Warriors and Alpha Mission as well as NES console only releases of Crystalis and Iron Tank. All games are well emulated and barring the exact arcade controls from the original cabinets, play really well and offer a rewind button for on the fly do-overs. Also a cool SNK museum within the game offers lots of gameplay and design images and info for all of SNK's games from 1978 to 1990. Great stuff for those interested in 80's arcade games, classic STGs, SNK's history or retro gaming in general. Highly recommended!

    Another great Digital Eclipse release

I don't have a ton of nostalgia for most of these games as my SNK fandom mostly starts around the Neo Geo era, but I love the incredible archival work Digital Eclipse puts into their compilations. This isn't just a compilation of immaculately-emulated versions of some very obscure and interesting games, it's also an incredible museum piece and valuable look into the development of these titles. Any Digital Eclipse release is worth your time, and this one is no exception. Not all the games are winners, but they're all at least interesting.

SNK has created some of the best arcade experiences of all time. They're masters of action, shooters, and even fighting games. This collection has a great selection of games, and has free DLC scheduled to add 11 more! On top of the that the selection of games includes the arcade and console versions of games where applicable. There's so much value packed in this collection, you shouldn't miss out on this game.

    Great Collection

A great collection of classic SNK games (though not all hold up to the test of time...Ikari Warriors, what happened to you?). But a bigger issue than Ikari not being the awesome game of my childhood memory is how small the gameplay screen is when playing in handheld mode. The border around the actual play area is huge. I know these games were made in a different aspect ratio than the wide-screen handheld, but can we not have the top and bottom of of the game meet the top and bottom of the screen? I dont need an inc of artwork above and below to shrink it so small... Another issue that the collection had at launch has been remedied now (and had been announced before): the game comes with 13 titles to play--kind of small for a retro collection, especially since this is pre-Neo Geo SNK. However, free DLC has been released that doubles that count (most are technically unlocked with an update, and 2 are in the eShop as DLC, but all are free). This makes for a much more respectable collection. The museum information is also rather nice to look through for early history of SNK and these games as well as others not in the collection, and the inclusion of game soundtracks and old ads is a nice touch. Oh, and play Crystalis. That's one in this collection that DEFINITELY holds up.

The games included are pretty solid. I liked Athena, Alpha Mission, Ikari 2, Crystalis, and Prehistoric Isle the most. And there's a ton of free games via DLC coming soon. But really what shines about this collection is the excellent Museum which works like a guided tour of SNK's early history. It's so well done and interesting it's the best part of the collection.

This is a game collection where the main focus is on the history and bonuses found in this collection. the games themselves are decent with some few being very good to play. It also getting a free DLC pack of more retro games. This is recommended for those that love the pre-neogeo SNK titles and those that appreciate the history value.

Ever since Terry Board was added to Super Smash Bros Ultimate, I was interested in classic SNK games, especially the Athena/Psycho Soldier and Ikari Warriors games, so I was really happy to find this collection which came with those games and many more! This collection is really great as it comes with TONS of games, and many of these games come in both their arcade and NES counterparts, as well as the Japanese versions. Each game also has the ability to use rewind and save state features, which is really nice for gamers like me that want to enjoy older games, but not have to deal with some of their archaic design. There are also some sweet extras, like a music player and behind the scenes documents which feature artwork. There's only one criticism I have, which on Nintendo Switch, the game crashes now and then, it's not prevalent, but it's noticably more than other Switch games I've played.

Great memories from some of my favorite childhood games. The original games are completely preserved and you even have the ability add scanlines so it looks like you're playing on a CRT. A nice bonus included is the museum showing history and art from the games. Thanks for a great release.

If you loved these old arcade/NES games then you should get this collection. It's not very expensive and all the games work just like they should. The menu's are crisp and clean the collection contains all the options you have come to expect from this kind of release. The only reason I'm giving it a 4 star review is because there aren't many games here and previous SNK Collections have been better. Maybe they were trying to avoid overlapping with other collections but I feel like there's a lot missing. Having said that they have announced that there is going to be a large update that will possibly double the amount of games included and it will be a free DLC! So possibly I'll have to return and change this to a 5 star review at that time. Just know what you're getting into.

This collection sets the standard for bonus material and presentation. Not only do you get regional variants of every game, console versions if they were made (like the awful NES Ikari Warriors) and a comprehensive history of SNK’s humble origins, you also get a bunch of extra free dlc games that were just recently added! Crystalis is the highlight of the collection, being one of the best action/rpg’s on the nes back in the day. The rest of the collection is a mix of arcade and console games that unfortunately have not aged well. They’re good as historical curiosities, like the full on (awful) jpop song that plays constantly in “Psycho Soldier”. These games aren’t very fun anymore but that’s almost irrelevant, the collection is awesome for its historical context and a reminder of the sheer absurdity of game design back in the 80’s. Highly recommended for retro enthusiasts!

This collection is a lot of fun, especially for those of us that remember the originals. The only issue, which I'm sure has been mentioned before, is that for some reason, the game has a decorative border around the edges that makes the screen smaller than it could be. I know it would need something on the sides as the aspect ratio is different, but no need to make it smaller from top to bottom as well. That's my only complaint.

Most of these games are rough by todays standards, but are a great time capsule showing how far we have come. The inclusion of arcade and console roms is greatly appreciated for nostalgia. The additional games that will part of a free DLC update soon make this a great collection that really shows the devs and publisher really put some thought and care into it. Don't expect Neo Geo quality as these predate that era by many years. I grew up playing these in the arcade so if your an older player this might just be for you.

I really enjoyed this compilation. The emulation is excellent all around, and all of the games control well. I love being able to switch between different versions of the games, it's cool being able to play both the arcade Athena as well as the NES classic version. I just wish there had been a few more games! It feels like its short a few titles for the asking price. I also wish there could be more historical and archival content about the games.

If your close to my age you will recall all the great arcade snk games growing up that had that extra something that made them stand out. This collection brings many of those games together in a tasteful way but also includes many bonus materials which makes it a trip to go back in time. If your a snk fan or a fan of classic arcade games this is a must buy collection along with the genesis as well.

Being an old school gamer who grew up in the late 70's early 80's this collection was perfect for me. My one and ONLY gripe is that the NES Baseball Stars is NOT included in this collection. It's only on the Xbox one version which SUCKS because I loved that game growing up. Other than that, a must own for those who love classic and timeless games of this era
