I bought these speakers for $200 and wow they sound great. I replaced some 10 year old speakers and the diffrence is nigh and day. They can pivot and you can point them in the directions you want. They also look very good nice once they are installed. Overall they are just a great purchase.

Love these speakers! They are the crowning achievement for my new home theater system. My system sounded great before but now it sounds absolutely awesome!! They are a little expensive but definitely worth it!!

If you can catch these speakers on a good sale, they are an excellent value! Very happy with them. Speaker grills magnetically hold and very nicely. Sound quality is great. I used them for mid and rear surround sound with some klipsche for L R and center. Running through a denon receiver. Very happy.

In my old house, I was running a Marantz SR-5003 AVR in 5.1 mode (purchased in 2008) with Definitive Technology ProCinema 100 satellites for the front speakers, Definitive Technology in-wall speakers for the rear, a Definitive Technology ProCinema 100 center speaker, a ProCinema ProSub 100 subwoofer, and Zone 2 running Boston Acoustic outdoor speakers on the patio. When I moved, I left the in-wall and outdoor speakers with the house. I no longer use the satellites, as one has a bad tweeter, but I’m still using the center channel and subwoofer in my new home.
I recently moved to a new house where I had the builder pre-wire the living room and patio for in-ceiling speakers. I’ve installed a pair of Sonance Mag8Rs for both the front and rear speakers in the living room and a pair of Mag6Rs on the patio. I’m a fairly competent audiophile (or at least I thought I was) and knew I would be sacrificing some of the surround performance with ceiling speakers in a large room. However, I was more interested in using them to play music in multi-channel stereo mode, mostly at low volumes. Even after using the Audyssey setup on the Marantz AVR, the Mag8Rs sounded flat. The highs from cymbals were almost non-existent, and the snare drum sounded more like a tom-tom. After some experimentation with the Marantz EQ settings, I was able to improve the snare drum, but I have never been happy with the highs reproduced by the Mag8Rs.
A few months after the move, I began having what I diagnosed as digital signal processing (DSP) issues with the Marantz. It started with the sound cutting in and out after power-up. The issue worsened, and eventually, the sound would cut in and out periodically until it stopped working altogether. During troubleshooting, I discovered that if I connected the Marantz via analog input signal sources, I could still hear sound. That led me to suspect a DSP issue. Though I’m not 100% certain, it seems like the cause. After years of heavy use, my AVR finally gave up the ghost.
I replaced the Marantz with a Denon X1700H AVR. I chose the Denon primarily because the Marantz Cinema 60 (which has specs similar to the SR-5003) is priced around $1500-$1800. I knew the Denon was a lower-end model, but I thought I’d give it a shot. After installing the Denon and running its version of Audyssey, the Mag8Rs sounded just like they did with the Marantz when I first set them up. I found the Audyssey MultEQ Editor program online and paid the $20. With MultEQ, I’ve been able to improve the output from the Mag8Rs, but I still don’t like how the highs are reproduced. Although the high frequencies improve at higher volumes, the volume levels at which I hear improvement are generally louder than I typically listen.
I’ve also read comments about the Mag8Rs’ bass response. In the past, I generally kept the crossover frequencies for the speakers and the subwoofer at 120Hz, but during this project, I experimented with various crossover settings for the speakers and the subwoofer. The Denon offers options ranging from 40Hz to 250Hz for all speakers and 80Hz to 200Hz for the subwoofer. I experimented with crossover frequencies as high as 200Hz on the Mag8Rs, thinking that relieving them of bass duties might help. It didn’t. This led me to question, “Am I even a remotely competent audiophile?” In the end, I settled on a 60Hz crossover for the Mag8Rs and 150Hz for the subwoofer. At 60Hz, the Mag8Rs seemed more balanced. At 120Hz and higher, they were flat.
Right now, I can only give the Sonance Mag8Rs 2 stars. The Mag6Rs on the patio are powered by the Denon’s Zone 2 and are adequate for what I need out there.
