Dave Grohl is an absolute genius for making this amazing documentary series. I am a huge Foo Fighters fan, but after watching this series I am now a fan of so many other artists that I never realized I would enjoy. Each episode dives into the story of how music evolved in each city they recorded in and also tells the story behind the recording studio itself. A lot of the history behind these cities and recording studios are really touching at times. I don't want to give too much away about the series itself but if you are a music lover and like history too, then this is a perfect series for you to watch.

This was a most creative project/ documentary I have every seen. Dave Grohl visited 8 cities that had a history of music and recording. He interviewed various artists and their journey to fame. He then painstakingly took the interview comments and wrote a song using these excerpts. At the end of each of the 8 programs he and the rest of the Foofighter members perform the song. This produced one of their best CD's and a great documentary. This should have gotten some sort of award.

If you're a fan of the Foo Fighters, this miniseries is not to be missed. It essentially acts as an ongoing sequel to the feature-length documentary "Sound City." Each episode takes place in a different city, where Dave Grohl interviews musicians, producers, and other music scene individuals about the evolution of the type of music each city is famous for. Each episode also features a track off of the companion album "Sonic Highways," and shows the process of writing the song.

Wow, this documentary blew me away. Not only was the record fantastic, but the Foo went the extra mile to make this. I love how it not only documents the making of the record, but also delves into the musical history of each city and studio they recorded in. It really is a trip. They also got a ton of guests to come in a speak about their experiences, which was super interesting. If you're a Foo Fighters or a music fan, pick this up. It really is a great ride.

I'm a huge Foo Fighters fan and love everything they put out. Sonic Highways is no exception. What an unbelievable challenge to visit a city, learn its musical history, then write a song from your interview notes.
Very interesting stories and awesome collaborations make the songs a hit as well.
Highly recommend this for anyone who is a Foo Fighters fan or just a fan of good music and musical history!!

After seeing the series on HBO, I knew I wanted to buy it on blu-ray! I liked that they spent time in each city and learned to appreciate the way each city had influenced music. I also liked how the Foo Fighters spoke with artists and producers from each city- past and present.

I'm Grohled out. McCartney too while I'm at it. That said I loved Sound City and I'm a sucker for anything like this. The new FF songs I can take or leave but the studios and the stories from each city are terrific. I hope they do more. I have not dug into the extras which seem more than plentiful but I'm sure it'll be worth my ticket price.

First of all, I am a huge Foo Fighters fan, so I was extremely excited about this product to start with just based on that. But I love how they bring in all the different musicians from the different areas that they are in. I love hearing the stories they tell and getting an idea of the different influences from all the different areas.

Sonic Highways is a great watch even if you aren't a die hard Foo Fighters fan. Going into detail about some great acts from each city is interesting enough, then the added layer of Foo Fighters recording process AND a ton of bonus features? Well worth the time.
