I did not like this unit in the store. It was not picking up any radio stations, and the functions had some lag time. I saw it open box for $130.99 and decided to give it a try where it would live.
I really wanted AM and FM radio and easy access to a single cd player. Very few mini-systems or shelf-systems are being made with AM radio these days. I get VERY bad radio reception in the front room of my house. While this is not perfect, it pulls in the most AM and FM stations of any radio I tried, which includes a borrowed $1,000 Onkyo receiver. Again, my reception is situational, so this would probably work spectacularly well for anyone else!
What I do like about the radio tuning is that it has the option to receive FM stations in either stereo or mono (which helps clean up weak FM stations).
Additionally, the CD player works well, Bluetooth is quick to connect, and there is a USB input on the front of the unit. I love the retro, brushed steel look with the large volume knob, but it is actually plastic. This in no way means it is low quality. The speaker cabinets are wood. The remote control is a little chunky, but it fits in your hand well and is well laid out.
I also use the sleep timer and wake to radio feature. It is a little annoying to program the wake feature (and that is the first thing to erase after a power outage), but it a nice feature to have. The remote has great range and seems to work around corners in my house.
I do not like that the speaker and antenna connections are proprietary. If you want to extend your speaker wires, you will have to splice them. Additionally, if you want a replacement antenna or to get a different one, you will have to go through Sony.
The unit does have more lag than others in turning on, turning off, initializing a cd, and switching between inputs. I can live with these things. I mostly listen to sports and talk radio, and the stereo is great. For music, the sound is pretty good and has some adjustments for bass and treble and an additional Bass Boost. If you are an audiophile, though, I would look to a much higher end stereo. For basic FM, using Bluetooth, and the occasional cd, I think this is great. It also has NFC, but I don't have any devices to pair with that. The stereo is a total of 50W, but that is more than adequate for my small room.
I don't think I would have paid $199 for this, but it offers more features and better performance than other more expensive stereos. It is an absolute steal if you can get it for less than $150.

I looked at many reviews on several different stereos. After coming across this one it seemed to have a good review and we were looking to switch from a bulking boxy stereo to something a little more slimmer and sleek looking. I love how this looks and the sound is great along with the bass. I like bass but not so much you cant hear the song. This stereo seems to have a great balance of bass. The only thing I wish it had was that you could attach more speakers to it. The slot is preset to have only the two speakers that come with it to plug in. I wanted to plug four speakers into it and it was not capable of doing that properly anyway. My husband end up jerry rigging it so that we could have four speakers hooked up to it. With the extra 2 speakers you can only put the volume up to about 20 till it will shut it off because it wasn't made to do that but it plenty loud even at that volume. With all 4 speakers I usually keep it around 12-14 and that's about what I normally keep it at so overall I am impressed with it.

This small unit has a very clean sound and plenty of power for a smaller room. For those who like a lot of bass, there's plenty with the bass boost function. I run my tv through the aux input and am pleasantly surprised at the quality. The radio, bluetooth and cd all function just as well. I can't comment on the usb input as I haven't had a need to use it. The only small drawback is the lack of an equalizer. although you still have some bass and treble control. For the price it's definitely an above average performer. I listen to many styles of music and I'd highly recommend it to anyone.

I purchased this system for my mother, who wanted a decent volume system that had the ability to play her older CD's as well as Bluetooth capability for her upcoming smartphone purchase. Since she does not listen to music at high volume, this was perfect. It is not super powerful, but will get plenty loud enough for her to listen while in the kitchen where it is placed. Sound is clear and true, if lacking a bit of the low end due to the size of the woofers, and the unit is easy to use and set up.

I purchased this compact stereo for my mom and set it up in her living room which is about 700 sqft. The setup was easy, including connecting her Ipad via the Bluetooth. Though the radio reception is not optimal - only the stations within the immediate area came in clear - the Bluetooth connection is strong and the sound is crystal clear. The unit's sound was beyond my expectations and fills the room without distortion. Remote is easy to use and functions are easy to navigate.

I had an unusual need for this particular product: my 98 year old mother is mostly blind and partially deaf. A radio is her only form of entertainment. The sound quality and clarity are amazing. The graphic equalizer allows her to adjust tone levels to the middle range she needs for speaking voices and for music. She uses bluetooth headphones to block ambient room noises. The equalizer and the headphones are the perfect combination for her special hearing needs. The remote buttons are easy for her to find and use. We all enjoy this sound system when we visit her. I plan on buying one for myself in the near future.

I use this sound system mainly for listening to music and podcsts from my mobile phone. The Bluetooth pairs very quickly and is extremely solid -- I never experience any drops or connection issues. The system was very easy to set up and it looks nice. The sound quality is very good for a system at this price.
The only reason I don't give it five stars is that I cannot get the FM radio to bring in any clear stations, no matter how much I play around with the included antenna. I do live a fair distance from the broadcast towers, but I have small radios in the house that can pull in most stations, so I'm not sure why this system cannot get a static-free station.

This music system is cool. Purchased for use in master bedroom to listen to huge collection of compact discs. The sound is good enough, the set compact enough to fit neatly on a night stand. The ability to sync with tablet and smart phone is a major plus. It's offers the right amount of volume and also has bass boast in case you need a little more "umph" in your music. I highly recommend purchase if you're looking for something compact to listen to your favorite music.

I bought this stereo for my son's room. He loves it, playing his iPod using the Bluetooth connection. It has good, solid sound with surprisingly effective bass boost. USB doesn't work with his iPod Nano but keeps it charged while he uses Bluetooth. Also, the Bluetooth light blinks constantly when the stereo is turned off. That would bug me, but my son doesn't mind.

I have been extremely happy with this stereo. It's small compact design has the look of much more expensive unit. It delivers excellent sound and provides good diversity between using the radio tuner, it's CD. Performance or the Blue Tooth option. Bottom line, I couldn't be happier with this unit.

My dad old stereo broke so he needed a new one. Looking for an easy to use, nice looking and good quality stereo this one shined.
First of all have you seen the design on most new shelf stereo systems? With all those changing lights and mega speakers, it looks like college party, which is not bad but not right for a grown up living room.
This unit is great for small living rooms. Has all the features you may need, CD, Bluetooth with NFC, USB for playing music and charging tablet or phone and Aux input that can be used to connect a turn table or other devices.
Overal for the price and design is one of the shelf stereo systems in a box you can get.

Very nice, affordable micro music system by Sony. I have a larger Bose system and considering the price the sound quality of the Sony is very good. Compact and aesthetically built. In addition able to connect multiple Bluetooth devices. Overall extremely happy with the purchase.

Sony CMT-SBT100 stereo system has good sound from a compact sound system. It fits nicely on a table and the speakers have enough wire to get a nice separation for stereo recordings. I use it to play classical music most often, but I also play some blues, jazz and rock. For the latter, there is a bass boost button to get stronger low tones, but it won't shake the windows or hit you in the chest. It also has separate bass and treble controls to increase or reduce by +/-4. The tuner works well with the included antenna, and pulls in all the local stations. The cd player also works fine, and the headphone jack allows you to take your listening private. I haven't yet tried the Bluetooth or USB port functions. I am quite pleased with my purchase and my 12 year old grandson was impressed by sound.

This stereo is easy to setup, comes with a remote, and has some good sound. The remote is simple and straight forward, but you can also use your smartphone as a remote as well. Local radio stations were crisp and clear and listening to CD's was a pleasure. I would recommend this for anyone looking for a nice sounding stereo in a small room.

I love this stereo. I bought it because I have a lot of CDs I wanted to be able to play, and I wanted better sound quality than just a basic cd player would provide. I got exactly what I wanted. My only complaint is that the antenna is not the best, and I had to make another purchase to have clear AM/FM.
