Fragile TV. Terrible parts and warranty issues

My son hit it with a small plastic toy and it got a small bullet hole crack in it. The whole TV then shut down and stopped working altogether. I called Best Buy and Sony to see if anything could be done but it wasn't covered under any kind of warranty. I called a TV repair place and was given a part number for a replacement panel they found online. I called Sony back to see if they could locate one, after I was referred to the parts distributor, but was told that it was not made available for purchase. So now my only 2 options are to wait maybe up to a year for a broken TV with a good panel to show up on ebay. Then pay to ship it and have it replaced or just buy a new TV. After paying close to $2500 and having to pay more on top of that to have it fixed or replaced is ridiculous. The TV was great for the short time I had it though. Hopefully someone reading this can help me out with an idea on what to do. I wouldn't have purchased it if I had known how fragile it was or how much trouble it would be.
