Excellent at the Price with an Unexpected Surprise

I expected this TV to look very good with an HD signal and to look even better with a 4K/HDR signal, and I wasn't disappointed. The picture doesn't pop quite as well as some of the OLED/QLED TVs that are thousands more at the same size, but that's an okay trade off to me for the savings given that it's still pretty excellent. Adding some bias lighting to this set makes a difference, particularly at night, tricking the eye into seeing blacks as even blacker.
Motion handling is nice, and I'm loving this TV for watching sports. Good for movies but perhaps a little too reflective for the best experience when watching dark movies in a bright room. Brighter things don't have that issue, and I can always drape the windows for the rare daytime movie.
The surprise for me was how well this TV upconverts standard definition TV like old movies. Was flipping channels and stumbled on the Dirty Dozen, and I was blown away by how good it looked--practically as good as HD. I literally have the SD channels removed from my cable guide because of how much I normally dislike upconverted content. That's not a thing for me anymore. Totally didn't buy this TV to watch SD content, but it's a welcome surprise how well that works.
As with others, I don't love the remote, but my Harmony remote works fine with it. And I do like the Android system and the various streaming apps. Seem like every component in my home theater has streaming apps, and the Android ones through Bravia are my go to's now, especially when I can get HDR streams.
I do wish it was a little easier (fewer steps) to brighten and dim the picture. I find I want to do that a lot with this TV between daytime in a bright room and night. Not a big deal, but would be nice to have a direct brightness toggle.

TV is in my basement, I have not watched that much. Everything was fine until it started to turn off and on by itself. Performed all resets and none worked. No warranty after 1 year. I will take it to a tech, maybe he can fix it.

When I began to think about replacing one of the most used appliances in our home I knew it had to be a quality product. I don’t mind spending the extra money for something a bit better. Since I was a kid I knew that Sony always seemed to have an innovative and superior product. So naturally I gravitate toward Sony. However, I kept an open mind and explored the other brands such as lg, Samsung and sharp. Which are all quality in their own right. Being that this tv is going to replace a twelve year old Sony Bravia (which is still working) my trust for Sony had not dimished. After looking and consulting with a blue shirt, who was quite knowledgeable and helpful btw. I chose this beauty which was on sale for Black Friday. After unboxing and initial setup (which both were easy). I was able to appreciate the heart of the tv, the picture. Smooth flow while watching sports. Colors popped and no tiling during fast motion. With the true luminous display where the backlight only operates where needed the blacks where pitch black. No constant glow from the border. I don’t use the speakers on the tv, I disabled the tv speakers through the menu. And hooked up to my surround sound. Therefore I cannot comment on the speakers. I can say that my surround sound is louder and more crisp with this tv. My only complaint is the remote. It is more like a child’s toy than a remote to a state of the art tv. Although the remote is easy to use it is the only downfall I have found to this tv. Overall I love this tv. Sony has not let me down yet. And thanks for the excellent service best buy, why I come back.

Very bad from the beginning. Difficult to set up and frequently loses internet connection. Four years later, none of the ports are working. Getting LG from Sam’s. This was an overpriced piece of crap. Will not buy Sony again

Picture not as good as you'd think. The main problem is the constant issue with the tv dropping the Network!! constant " ETHERNET CABLE DISCONENTED " The issue is not my network or equipment.

Tv failed after 13 months of use. No display. TV powers up and you can see just the the backlight and no other display. This is a common problem with this TV. Sony refuses to do anything. Last Sony product I’ll ever purchase.

Great for Movies and Gaming

I am very pleased with this new TV. I finally made the jump to 4K and chose to also get a TV supported that HDR so as to future proof the set and improve overall picture quality. I purchased it in the 65" size. I primarily purchased the TV for movies as well as to use my Xbox One X for HDR 4K gaming. Needless to say I am very impressed. The motion reduction is incredible and text remains readable even when scrolling quickly. The contrast and black levels of the TV are amazing along with the 4K resolution. If you watch your TV at very wide angles from the center you will notice some image degradation as it is a VA panel not an IPS panel where it looks slightly washed out, but in most circumstances you'd never notice. The sony 900F does a good job upscaling everyday content as well that is not 4K or HDR to improve the picture which is actually noticeable coming from my previous 55" 1080P Samsung smart tv.
Set up was very easy. Plugged it in, performed the system update (which may take awhile if you don't have fast internet) and then chose my preferences. Be sure your stand is wide enough, however. It has split legs that are 46" at the widest point and are about 13" long (11.5" or so depth-wise as they are angled).
As a side note if you are gaming in 4K and want HDR compatibility you need to go into the settings and under External Inputs it needs to be changed to Enhanced HDMI otherwise you will only get 4K without HDR support.
Streaming Netflix and Amazon Prime Video is very easy using the Android TV smart built in applications. Once you sign in you can just click into them later and it will remember your preferences so you can watch with ease.
Voice control works decently as it is Google Assistant, but it takes some getting used to. Consider purchasing a soundbar as the built-in speakers are only 5-10 watts each so it does not get very loud.
Overall I would highly recommend this TV it is a great deal for the features you are getting without paying the high-end price tag.

Lots of research, happy with my pick

After months of research on a new TV, I stumbled upon a Superbowl weekend sale on the X900F. I got the 65" for $999.
My research started with the Samsung Q70R. All my TVs have been Samaung with very good luck. In fact, the TV I was replacing was a 61" Samsung HL61750A DLP that I purchased in 2009.
My hesitation with the Sony was the well known issue of blooming. My TV is in a rather dark room and I was very worried about blooming in dark scenes. The deal I found making the Sony $200 less than the Q70R was enough to intice me to give it a try.
I am beyond happy that I did. The color is extremely good. Brightness is excellent. Contrast is awesome. Motion handling was very important for me as I watch a lot of sports. The X900F performs well here.
The blooming so many people complained about is there, but it's certainly not THAT noticeable. Definitely not a deal breaker. The only other draw back I see is that there is a little dirty screen effect that is noticeable in the corners. Like the blooming, this is minor and only noticeable with certain scenes.
After seeing this TV with real life content (Fios and Netflix) I would have definitely paid the normal price of $1099. Getting it for $100 less is just a nice bonus.

Fantastic TV over all of the rest

I am typically not a fan of extended service plans with anything. I have to say though, Best Buy is amazing! We recently had a problem with our 2 year old Samsung TV. Geek Squad came out, tried to fix it and could not. Deemed it defective and to be replaced. They said they were going to provide us with a comparable value replacement to the TV in a week. With that said, I was thinking pricing of our TV today less a lot of depreciation. I called Geek Squad to see what the comparable value was and they said the original full product price you paid two years ago. I asked if they were serious and they said yes. If product is unable to be fixed, their policy under the protection plan is full value replacement. A gift card was created and they overnighted it to us. Drove to two Best Buy stores in our area. One was regular, another Magnolia. Asked several employees their opinions on a new TV. At the top of everyone's list was the Sony X900F. They steered us away from Samsung, LG and the rest. After reviewing the product, seeing it in both stores and receiving our gift card, we went shopping to purchase the X900F. The television is connected to our audio receiver via HDMI ARC. We are able to view HDR content, Dolby Vision content and various apps on the TV by just turning on the component we want to view. TV/receiver automatically tunes to the correct input. Visually at home connected to our components, the picture is the best we have seen on any TV including OLED. Menus are very simple to navigate through and we did not have to make any picture adjustments whatsoever out of the box or to date. We appreciate everything Best Buy has done for us from the extended warranty, Geek Squad, employee recommendations and helping us enjoy this fantastic new Sony X900F TV!
