Latest firmware on this unit is a disaster...

Owned for 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.The October 2020 firmware update on this TV was horrible and I wish I'd never accepted the update when this TV asked me for permission to install it. It results in random reboots of the TV (as others have mentioned as well) and also causes the TV to turn itself on randomly. Sony acknowledges these issues if you contact them at support and asks you to wait for them to fix the issues they caused by rushing out an incompletely tested firmware to enable HDMI2.1 for their beloved PS5. In addition, this TV exhibits dimly lit pixels on all 4 corners of the screen. This is hidden by the BB in-store demo mode which introduces black bars on the top & bottom of the screen (hence obscuring this design flaw). They ALL do this. It's most visible on solid, light colored backgrounds. There are good things about this TV (picture and color) as well but I have a hard time looking past these serious flaws and can't consider this tv even average in it's current state. Do your research before you buy, search the web on the terms "dark corners", reboot, and even dirty screen effect on this model.

Underwhelming and sadly disappointed

This tv will not do that for you. Sound is terrible, the picture is decent, and the connectivity is lacking. First of all, I purchased this to be used with a PS5 and a sound bar. Little did I know, that once you update the TV to unlock the 120hz feature, you are locked into using HDMI 3&4 as possible ports. That would be ok if HDMI 3 wasn’t the ARC port that connects to your audio receiver/sound bar. So after the crippling update I continued on and discovered that only HDMI 3&4 support Dolby Vision. I pushed on and tried to just enjoy some next gen gaming. Soon I discovered that any setting other than GAME MODE, induced TERRIBLE INPUT LAG. Game mode just doesn’t cut it when you want a smooth balanced picture. The lag is extremely noticeable, ~1/2 second. And if I that wasn’t enough the update introduced a strange metallic echo sound to the game’s audio. Being overall unimpressed and downright disappointed I returned the tv and exchanged it for a LG OLED CX. ***Mind blown*** The LG OLED TV is in a entirely other league than the Sony. I cannot express how impressive and amazing it is. It’s truly the feeling you hope to get when you buy a new TV. The sound alone is the equivalent of some sound bars. It’s like nothing you’ve ever experienced.

Was the software of your TV updated(v6.0466)? Firmware update version v6.0466 is now available to improve the general performance of the TV and stability. Please make sure your TV is connected to the internet and the Automatic Software Update setting is set to ON to keep the software updated to the most current version.
The automatic update is released on a staggered schedule so it may take a week or so before it is sent to your TV. If you don’t want to wait for the automatic update, you can download the update from the downloads page for your TV model and manually install it.

Regarding the 4K 120Hz feature, update the software and set the TV HDMI Signal Format to Enhanced format. Make sure your device is connected to the HDMI 3 or HDMI 4 input on the TV using the supplied Certified Premium HDMI cable. For more details about these features, please check the link below:
