Seems to pump out good sound, and can throughput 4K video. Also can stream Chromecast audio which is a nice feature if you want to integrate it as part of a while house audio system.

Bought this receiver to replace a 18 year old Sony that was starting to cut out. Wow, it sound great. Has all the features I was looking for at a reasonable price. Would definitely recommend this receiver.

This receiver is the ONLY receiver I've found that can down-sample PCM or HDMI audio to stereo and sent it to Zone 2. That's why I bought it! For such a high-end receiver, however, it is lacking Google Home support or even a mobile app. Both features should exist at this price point.

I was looking for the best Amp section, solid switching, and good sound quality. Online reviews i found called STR-ZA1100ES the best bet if you put sound quality and two-channel reproduction ahead of all else. Very pleased with the setup, the interface and the simplicity of the Online Setup options using your phone or tablet. This seems to be a solid foundation to build a home theater around.

This receiver is designed to perform best in a one zone application, which suits me. I have premium bookshelf speakers, rated at 4 ohms, and I bi-amp them. I use a 5.1 setup with all premium speakers. The sound is awesome.

The Sony STR-ZA1100ES receiver is quite reasonably priced for the value it provides. I am quite happy with the sound, listening to two channel music of various kinds, and it decodes various surround sound formats and handles my 7.1 setup with aplomb. It also makes video look better. All in all, quite a bargain for the price.

I am really enjoying my Sony ES AV Reciever. Super configurable and once you got everything hooked up. Surround speaker setup is a breeze. Inputs sources and outputs are configurable. Sound is great...

This product is in the mid range of the price spectrum. I find that my needs are addressed and more. There was no reason to pay a ton of money for many functions that I would not use.

    Best receiver I ever had

I don't post many reveiws, but I've had this avr for over a month and am so pleased with it! I am coming from one of the big names AVR;'s that cost twice as much. No comparison. This Sony blows it away. Finally I have the exciting sound that I hear at the Best Buy stores, even with regular tv! No bluetooth, or wifi, but I didn't need those as I use an ethernet cable (using a powerline adapter since I didn't have an available ethernet line). Love the fact that you can change your settings with your phone or computer as it does take some tweaking. Really love the A.F.D. coding that figures out the best sound instead of just Dolby Surround setting that I had on my previous receivers. The speaker relocation feature is excellent as it gives me virtual rear speakers. It took a bit to figure out but if you have a 7.1 setup it is better to use the 5.1 with Front Height speaker setting as it will enable Atmos and other formats if you go to HDMI settings, Audio Out and choose AMP (not TV + AMP). 10 star receiver!!

I am reviewing this receiver on behalf of the receiver I actually own, the STR-ZA2100ES (which Best Buy doesn’t sell in the US). The differences between the 2100ES and the 1100ES are 5 Watts more RMS power to the speakers, an extra HDMI port in the front, and preout jacks to connect another pair of surround height/back speakers connected to a 2 ch amp giving you more speaker options such as 7.2.2 or 5.2.4 which can make a difference in surround sound quality or being used as zone connections for another room. Pros Let’s start with the pros. The build quality is fantastic, and the receiver has many features that are actually good for watching movies. The sound quality is fantastic as well. 4K/HDR 4:4:4 passthrough to all hdmi inputs (The 2100ES extra HDMI input in front panel does not do 4:4:4.). I like the fact that this receiver shows you what active channels are actually being used as the lower end Sony receivers don’t give you this information. The z series receivers are also the only ones that have an AM tuner. It decodes all of today’s important formats such as Dolby Atmos and DTS:X and hi-res audio for quality music performance. I’ve had two other Sony receivers in the past that have lasted me more than 10 years and this receivers looks to do the same going well with the heratige of Sony’s reliability of making great quality products. Video and audio quality phenomenal!! Cons Let’s go with the cons now. This receiver as well as all other of today’s z series receivers do not have Bluetooth capability, no WiFi, and no USB for playing music files. The included port is only for firmware updates and backing up settings. It also doesn’t have a headphone jack so you are not able to listen to this receiver wired or wirelessly through Bluetooth. These are all features that the lower end Sony receivers they sell today actually do have. The Z series receivers were intended to be sold to the custom installation market and not the general consumer market which I guess use devices that have those features with other products they connect too and Sony figured not to use them here. It’s a bummer really because it’s such a great receiver. This is why I remove one star for my review (I would actually remove half a star at 4.5 stars if I could as Best Buy rating system doesn’t allow me.). Other than that, this a really great product if you don’t care about the wireless capabilities and no headphones. This receiver more than makes up from its downfalls with its sonic performance of Sony receiver yesteryear when none of those wireless features existed. The z series receivers have beefier amps and you can tell by listening to its sound quality compared to their lower end models. To me it’s a worthy purchase but it may not be worth it to you if wireless capabilities are important to you, I suggest you look elsewhere that have those features at a lower price. I hope my review helped you with your decisions.
