I bought my Wife a 70 inch Vizio TV for Christmas and realized I needed to go all in and replace my old Sony receiver that had no left channel and no hdmi input or output Jack's! Couldn't allow myself to hook up New school TV with Old school audio!!! Anyways, this receiver does everything I need at a price that just blew me away. It was on sale for $149 Bucks : ) You could spend a lot more money on a receiver, but this one sounds great, easy to operate and looks great in my rack. Only thing I didn't like was it comes with a simple "get started" sheet to hook it up, but you need to go online and register the unit to download the actual operation manual! Otherwise, it's 5 thumbs up from me@

Works well enough. Sometimes has syncing issues causing echo, but paying with the settings fixes it.
A little hard to navigate the huge amount of settings available, but overall the machine is good and great for the price. Would recommend.

Good Console for Price

The console is a good console. You have to mess with the settings a little bit in order to get the maximum output. I have 3 speakers in surrounding the TV and (2) rear speakers surrounding my living room. Connecting the console is the same as other console nothing hard about it with simple black and red wires from speakers for positive and negative connections. HDMI from sources into the console. As mentioned before just need to mess with the settings with the factory remote to adjust all sounds and volumes from each speaker. Also having a sub woofer is a must to make the sound have some kick.

I bought this receiver along with a couple of Polk speakers for my TV. Receiver did not come with a manual, so I needed to go online to get one. You can adjust the sound settings, and I absolutely needed the manual to know how to adjust them and exactly what they were.

This receiver has plenty of HDMI connections for a basic home theater system. Easy to set up and use with enough power for a large room. Can’t beat the price.

Relatively easy to set up with mic and TV GUI however it set my speakers to Large when they should be small. that's easy to correct. the remote functions well. It's inexpensive but seems like good build quality. Sounds adequate with DVR cable TV box. Crisp clear sound on blurays and DVD's. It seems geared towards that use. Just enough connections including one digital coax for my Bluray player. Nice looking unit. Easy to change settings on the unit with the remote. The user manual is online. Pretty standard way to do it these days.

Bought this for multiple HDMI inputs to use as A/V controller for Apple TV, Cable TV, DVD Player, and Play Station. Works for this purpose and is connected to simple center channel speaker and one set of left/right main speakers. Overall sound quality, ability to hear voice vs. sound effects on movies, and sports viewing sound is good. This is an entry level receiver. It will not blow your socks off. Solid purchase for basic A/V use. Not even close to audiophile grade, but the price fairly represents that.

Purchased this receiver after upgrading Original LCD TV and the XBone to the new slim version. This receiver is used for home entertainment space in the living, primarily for movie and television broadcast.
Receiver itself is easy to set up. It only has HDMI hook ups for HD devices, does have composite hook up, but knew this going in and served my needs perfectly.
Our living room is of medium size and this receiver's sound fills our area well.
Overall affordable and has worked well for us so far.

We bought this unit as an upgrade to our aging Sony amp from 10 years ago. We needed it to have HDMI inputs and out, we needed it to be able to decode the latest Blu-Ray audio. Not only does it have all of that, but it was also one of the easiest to set up I've ever done. It comes with a multi-directional mic that you place at head-level where you normally sit and it listens to the speakers and adjusts the levels and distance automatically. Fantastic sound, fantastic quality, would definitely buy again. Sony has outdone themselves.

I gave my 5.1 setup a make-over and used this receiver as the core of the system. Even at full price this unit is an excellent value, but I bought it on sale and feel even better about my purchase. If you need a receiver that sounds good but no need for every feature available, look no further. This unit, paired with new speakers all the way around is producing sounds and clarity while watching movies and listening to music that we didn't have with the older setup. It's basic, but it sounds good and is easy to operate and that is exactly what I was looking for.

great simple receiver. I use it with bookshelf speakers, not as a surround sound, but it has good power and sound. it is built for a surround sound system, so you need a display for setting up some functions (i.e. programing FM Stations). I use a simple computer monitor and an hdmi cable for initial set up. no Bluetooth but I just use the USB connection for my iPhone, which the remote will control. best setup for price if your not using a Bluetooth speaker.

I purchased this receiver to use outdoors with my projector and bookshelf speakers. For $150 you can’t beat the quality of this receiver. This receiver plays my speakers as loud as I need them to be and I’m not quite sure why anyone would need to spend thousands of dollars on a higher end receiver when this one gets the job done just fine. The Best Buy assoc. pointed me in the direction of this one instead of trying to get me to spend more money on a higher end one. For that I thank him.

I purchased this to replace an aging A/V receiver that was in my bedroom. For the price, it can't be beat. Was surprised at the feature set and the quality of the sound. Also surprised it came with an optimizer built in; with the included mike I was setup in no time. Looks and sounds great. I really can't find any negatives so far and am really happy with my purchase! I think if I was going for something for the living room or home theater, I might want to upgrade a little bit but for my needs it was just the thing.

Great Solution for "Old School" Devices

Our 20 yr old sound system receiver finally died, and we desperately needed a new receiver with the old style optical inputs, the component audio/video inputs, and connections for DVD players, VCRs and things made before HDMI inputs were ever thought up.
This Sony model STRDH550 receiver was the solution to our problem. by the Sony STRDH550 receiver being available, saved us $$$ by not having to upgrade our current equipment, at least not right away.
Functions were darn near plug and play, and the sound output was much better than the receiver it replaced.
We bought a 2nd STRDH550 receiver, in the event our other major system in the family room goes out, so we won't have to upgrade that one too.
Whoo Hoo!

I love the product the setup was easy and it exceeded my expectations for being on sale for $150. The auto calibration work flawlessly and the sound is very crisp and clear When I arrived at the Best Buy in Waco, I asked the sales staff if they had any open box receivers and very much to my surprise he threw a fit. My wife and I almost left the store but decided to purchase the item anyway and from someone else but I was compelled to speak to the manager about the actions of the sales staff.

This receiver works perfectly in my home theater. My only complaint would be that the instructions that come with it are very skimpy. There is a 239 page instruction manual on line, but that goes into too much detail. A printed manual with 10-20 pages showing clearly the set up procedures and the menus one would encounter for each step would have been better. But, overall, I am very happy with this receiver, and it sounds great with the 5 speakers I already had and my subwoofer.

Purchased this entry level reciever to replace my old RCA receiver that died. I needed that would handle my existing 5.1 speaker system. I am taking both Eva audio out and digital audio out of my Visio TV and connecting to the Sony receiver. This allows me to control the volume of the receiver with my TV sound. The Pro Logic pass through from my TV works great. Netflix and cable come through great with full surround sound. Receiver controls are easy and setup was easy. Works great!
