Customers are saying
Customers love the AS20 HD Action Cam for its video quality, affordable price, and waterproof design. They appreciate how easy it is to use and its compact size. However, some users have concerns about its short battery life, occasional fogging issues, limited accessory options compared to competitors like GoPro, and the fact that the tripod mount is part of the outer case.

Love it!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love this Sony action camera! I've used it for a couple years. I've used it scuba diving, snorkeling, downhill skiing, mountain biking, snowboarding and bungee jumping. It's worked great in all these situations. Remember to use a moisture absorption sheet in the case when scuba diving or snorkeling to prevent moisture condensation. The underwater case with the flat lens as less distortion than the standard case when used underwater. This Sony action camera has provided better images (sharper and better image stabilization) and then my friend's GoPro 4 camera. I also like the smart phone app remote control with live video features.

All Fogged Up
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this camera for crew training for sailboat racing and paired it with the Proforma Suction Cup Mount (which is excellent). Set up of the camera was easy and once fully charged and loaded with a 32gb card, into the waterproof case it went. I set the camera view using the Playmemories app on the iPhone and was off and running. At the end of our sailboat race (a little over an hour), I was disappointed to find 2 things: 1. The battery had expired sometime after about 63 minutes of use which didn't allow the race finish to be recorded and 2. the housing, specifically the lens cover over the camera lens, had fogged terribly, I expect due to the camera heating up inside a sealed housing. I understand the physics of heat/moisture but allowing ambient heated moisture to reach the lens inside a waterproof housing is creating a fog machine. I'm surprised no other reviews make mention of this because I subsequently found numerous "fixes" for Action Cam fogging on Youtube and even Sony is offering an anti-fog cloth to install in the housing (at an extra $15) which one of Best Buy's competitors supplies at no charge with the camera. Reviewing the video taken after sailing, the lens begins to fog after 10 minutes of use and gets progressively worse over an hour, with video after 30 minutes looking like it was shot inside a cloud. Sony, you need to find a way to vent the case or isolate the lens from condensation.

Excellent
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Those that rate this low is because they have a low knowledge of technical equipment. This is almost identical to the Sony - X1000 HD Action Camcorder, all the specs are so close it isn't worth buying the X1000. The image stabilization is nothing less than excellent. I was blown away by its feature, you can take it in your hand and shake it and the picture remains stable, the best stabilization in a video device I have ever experienced and I have bought many types of video equipment. The WiFi connectivity is quite poor IMO, I don't know why I expected more, I use this for my RC cars and you just have to set the camera to record and cannot use the remote viewing device for instant viewing. The camera takes quite a tumble from the Traxxas Revo and is well protected within the waterproof casing. It's hard for me seeing much improving this camera unless it's the WiFi's distance.

Great camera, poor case
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Brother gave me this camera for my birthday. Took it to Hawaii where I snorkeled every day for two weeks. Fantastic underwater video. Case concerned me. Took it to St. Thomas, VI last week and sure enough two days in of snorkeling moisture started appearing. Then next day on a turtle reserve snorkeling adventure water was in the case. Camera died instantly. Ruined the day and the great interactions with sea turtles. I assume you get what you pay for and probably not worth it getting repaired?

Cumbersome to Operate - But It Works
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It works and video quality is great. Usage is cumbersome. Instructions for WiFi are terrible. I am satisfied but with some provisos. Specifics: WiFi setup :: I wanted to use my Asus Transformer as the view finder to aim the cam. I looked at a bunch of guides including Sony's website. You need the PlayMemories Mobile app for Android - it's free. I finally cobbled together the needed info from multiple different source and got it working. The main issue is that the app kept wanting me to scan the 3D bar code then telling me my device was incompatible. The secret is that the camera creates its own WiFi network called "DIRECT". You need to connect your smart phone or tablet to the "DIRECT" network using the password provided on the English instructions sheet. Once I did that, it all worked. 2) The tripod mount is part of the outer case. Meaning that to access the USB, SD card, or HDMI, you have remove the whole thing from the tripod and take it out of the waterproof case. 3) Yes - there is a 1/8" mic input. Oh wait - it's in the same bay with USB port so you have to remove the outer waterproof case and leave the bay door open to plug in a mic. Did I say "cumbersome" ? 4) Still photos are terrible. However, I have not used the tripod and viewfinder app for pics yet, so maybe this will turn out okay. Cumbersome - but it takes great video. Now, I happened to have an Asus tablet with Android 4.0.0 (minimum for viewfinder app). The cyclists who posted use a SmartWatch as view finder. You can fly blind and just aim the darn thing and guess, which I did for a "harassing my cat" video. But if you don't have a compatible WiFi device, you will have no view finder! Then, getting it aimed is the definition of the word "cumbersome". I recommend this ONLY at the sale price and if you already have a WiFi compatible device. I found out that many devices not listed on Sony's compatible list actually are fine - like my older Asus Transformer eeePad running Android 4.0.0.

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I downloaded the app, i scanned the code. It said code not supported. I plug it in to my PC, it says I need to buy an HDMI cable (sold separately) to even tell if it is recording. Shyte, do not buy.
