Needs a display

Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.There are new features, but the lack of a display is a big drawback because there's no way to know which features are enabled without referring to the app. It shuts down if you pause for very long - then the (Sony) TV's remote becomes inoperative until you use the soundbar's remote. It requires a lot of juggling of phone and two remotes that conflict. The equalizer function that existed with the previous HTA5000 is gone, so I'm not able to match my room. The sound is clean but lacks bass compared to the HTA5000 I replaced. The app gives better sound adjustment, almost as good as Audessey, and it works well with the Bravia Cam for time-alignment. I was hoping for more.

The sound is amazing. It takes a little while to get everything set up and optimized, but the overall 3d sound field sounds great.

Amazing but app could use some work

Exellent Sound Bar with a few caveats

While sound clarity is good with the bar alone you do need the subwoofer and surrounds to get the true cinematic experience especially in a larger room. Another poor decision for me is not having the ability to adjust treble and base. The software can be clunky. At times I have unplug it and disconnect tv for changes to take effect. Iike the integration with the Bravia TVs. It is also a bit overpriced in my opinion. Overall if I had to I would but it again since it works so well with my Bravia TV.

Good bang for a budget purchase.

On its own it wouldn’t pass 3 stars. The Subwoofer is a MUST. It does reach 4 stars if it’s Paired up with a Sub and rear speakers as well as a Sony Tv that can act as a center speaker. It will sound more “mutted” than the A5000 but cranking up the bass and volume will definitely fix that. The Bravia App is a must for adjustments and updates. if you have WiFi connectivity you won’t have to rely on a USB to add updates.
