I didn't want to buy a junk sound bar, that's why I've chosen Sony. I like the sony bravia 8 theater bar. Realy good sound. And there is additionel buttons +/- for Bass level. Problems with the android app Bravia 8 connect . Sometime cannot connect.

    Decent Soundbar with Some Issues

First and foremost the Sony Bravia Soundbar 8 produces good sound for all types of sources it is connected to, whether it is cable/satellite, streaming services, 4K/regular Bluray player, etc. This soundbar especially shines when Dolby Atmos is engaged (available thru various streaming services and 4K Bluray discs); the soundfield is truly remarkable with the widening sound stage you are presented with. I do not have a subwoofer like some of you have, as I personally feel it is adequate enough for my needs. As far as issues I’ve had with this, well when I turn on my excellent Sony XR65A95L OLED TV (review coming soon on that one) it takes a solid 10 or so seconds before the audio from the soundbar gets connected. During this 10 seconds you’ll hear the voices then it will cut out, you’ll hear voices once more and then it will cut out again until finally a few seconds later the voices will come back permanently. Really not sure what the problem is but it is annoying to say the least. Other issue is about a handful of times the soundbar did not connect to my TV and the audio was coming from the TV speakers, not the audio system (it tells you this) so I had to disconnect the soundbar from the TV, waited about 10 seconds, reconnected and then everything was fine…audio system recognized. Funny things happen with bluetooth connectivity is what I’ve attributed this to but again, just annoying. So in summary this is a good sounding soundbar, make no mistake about it but it is a bit buggy at times that can get frustrating.

Hi Bones, thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience with the Sony - BRAVIA Theater Bar 8!
We are glad that is serving you well with the excellent sound quality, Dolby Atmos and the Sound field effect. In regards to the connectivity issue you're having while using the Sound bar with the TV, we understand this can be really frustrating to deal with. Therefore we would like to share some recommendations to resolve it.
1- Perform a handshake, you will need to unplug the TV and the Sound bar from the power for 2 min, as well as the HDMI cable connected. Then you plug the TV back and turn it on, after that, plug the sound bar, turn it on and connect the HDMI cable, make sure you do it ARC to ARC.
2- Enable the Bravia Sync device list, you can go to your TV settings > channels and inputs > external inputs > Bravia sync settings > Bravia sync device list > press "Enable". This will ensure both devices are synced
3- Make sure the Sound bar is up to date, you can into your Sound bar settings > Software update
We hope these steps help you in getting it to work the way it should be, if the issue persists, you can contact our technical support team via: https://us.esupport.sony.com/support/s/support-contact?language=en_US&category=headphones

I was looking for a 3D type sound system and rep at the store recommended this. At first I was like how can this work, where are all the speakers! They didn't have a sample on display to checkout so I trusted the rep, he also assured me I could return it and bought it. I am happy to report that the sound quality awesome, it exceeded my expectations. I would never I thought a single sound bar could produce such robust sound that fill in my big living room!

Thank you so much for the review, Arinze!

We are so happy to hear that the BRAVIA Theater Bar 8 exceeded your expectations! It’s completely understandable to be a bit skeptical at first—looking at a single, slim bar, it’s hard to imagine how it could possibly replace a room full of speakers.

The "magic" you’re hearing is thanks to the 11 internal speaker units working alongside our 360 Spatial Sound Mapping technology. By reflecting sound off your walls and ceiling, the bar creates "phantom speakers" all around you, which is how it manages to fill such a large living room with that robust, 3D audio.

Thank you for trusting Sony and for sharing your experience!

Amazing sound, got it paired up with the rs5 rear speakers and the sw5 sub and it sounds incredible. Only 2 problems. One, the spatial audio calibration process only works about half the time, so anytime you move a speaker and go to recalibrate it on the app it doesn’t work. Then it will just randomly work again even though you did nothing different. Two, the sound drops every once in a while. Just for like 2 seconds but then the system like slowly turns back on and takes awhile for the sound to come out properly. Super annoying, if I pay about $3,000 for a home theater setup it should work perfectly. I did end up returning all items in my setup and am waiting on my wired 5.2.2 sony to arrive.

Let me start by saying I have owned many soundbars my last 3 being St-5000, The Lg s95R, and A7000. Decided to upgrade my A7000 to the Bravia Theater 9 since I have an A95L qdoled. The Bravia 9 bar does so much right with audio quality and how well it works with the rear speakers where with the a7000 I had to turn settings off and back on to get proper surround sound. Now movies and games are awesome, as is dialog. Overall good bar. Now the bad.. Taking out one of the 2 2.1 ports but increasing the price is an insult. I actually took advantage of that feature. Also having to use a phone app to see a menu and configure settings should be optional, not mandatory. And finally, bars cheaper or same price but with bettet quick come with the sub and rears where the Sony tax I get just a bar, granted I own the rear speakers and subwoofer already. Having said all that I am happy overall, and if money is no object to you get the whole setup, otherwise get a cheaper bar that's just as good

Great Sound, good voice synching, great to be able to control it from the TV screens, and bass is so good you don’t need a sub for most rooms. Only thing I don’t like is that the Xfinity remote doesn’t seem to like to control the sound bar consistently, and there is no visual of the sound level on the TV screen if you use the Xfinity remote. Shoudl be better integrated.

I was use to other soundbars where you have to constantly make sound adjustments. So at first I was confused and searching for things to tweak. But soon I realized that after initial set up and having my optimal settings completed, I could just relax and watch my content with minimal involvements on my part other than volume control. I competely understand why some other reviewers are unnerved by not being more involved with the operation of the soundbar. However, this soundbar sounds great with almost no manual input from the user post set up. It is very inteligent that way. Once I realized I could just enjoy the content, I realized what a great soundbar this is.

The soundbar is adequate for what I'm used to.. I feel it's missing options to where you can fine-tune it yourself. You have to go with the factory set settings and I'm not a fan of that.⁹ It does give you very good sound. I just wish I gave you more options.

This is a very diverse sounding bar. It does a great job of being loud, rich with different sounds and a deep bass. It does an excellent job of highlighting the dialogue in shows, so you can better understand what it being said without having to constantly adjust the volume. I have not tested it on it's own, but have it paired with the SW5 subwoofer. I have been very pleased with the result. Setup is not difficult and the app is pretty straightforward. It is a premium product and it is on par with my Sonos Arc set up.

The bar 9 is a very good sound bar if you’re looking to be truly immersed in what you’re watching. I do recommend if you’re buying this soundbar to purchase the rear speaker and sub. The rear virtual speakers that Sony advertises can lack or not be heard at all depending on the room layout. If I could give this bar a rating from 1/10 I would rate it a 7 due to the lack of clarity when listening to music or watching movies with sonys spatial 360 sound.

I am a music lover who recently replaced the Denon Home Soundbar 550 and matching subwoofer with the Bravia Theatre Bar 8 and SA-SW5 Subwoofer. I purchased the Theatre Bar 8 from my local Best Buy but had to order the SA-SW5 online, but it was on my front porch 2 days later. The Sony soundbar and sub absolutely destroys the pricier Denon in every area except hi-res stereo music playback. The Denon is a 2.1 soundbar and while providing better mid-range and tighter bass for streamed music from Amazon Music HD, Apple Music and SiriusXM, dialogue was muddy and frequently unintelligible, making watching my favorite programs or movies a chore. The Sony does an admirable job with hi-res music and is a pleasure to listen to without ear fatigue, plus, it provides a much wider 2.1 soundstage and absolutely kills on all movie soundtracks with their various codecs. It will shake the furniture and rattle windows if required with the SA-SW5 Sub and the center dialogue channel is the best I have heard on any soundbar in its price range. No more of my wife and I looking at each other constantly during a movie and asking, "What did he/she say"? The Dolby Atmos adds excellent height effects as well. I'm extremely happy I made the switch.
