I needed bookshelf speakers for a small room/office (11'x14') for under $500. Internet research led me to these Sony Core Series 3-ways as giant killers against the likes of Klipsch and Polk Audio. So I bought a pair of each to compare: Klipsch R-50-M II ($399.99) and the Polk Audio XT20 ($249.99), and the Sony SSCS5's ($199.99). The Klipsch and Polks are 2-ways; the Sonys are 3-ways. My amp/receiver is a Sony with 100RMS. I found the Klipsch were too harsh even with massaging EQ settings (need the addition of a sub-woofer), the Polks were okay with good overall balance, but lacked low frequency compared to the Sony 3-ways. All three pair handled higher volumes with no distortion but the Sony's midrange was more up front and the vocals "real" and warm. I feel like the Klipsch and Polks might do better in a home theater setup as front speakers than for pure audio media. And, for the price differential, the Sonys were the clear winner for my purposes. I'd highly recommend them to anyone looking for great balanced sound in a small package at an amazing value for $200.00. By the way, I did return the Klipsch and Polks to Best Buy with no problems - quick and easy! Thanks Best Buy!

Given the price of these speakers, they are a great value, they have really good sound and easy to connect to your existing system.

I drive these with an ancient 20w harmon kardon 330B circa 1970s. Sound is surprisingly good for Miles Davis and John Coltrane via turntable. I'm not usually a Sony fan but happy with these after one year for price paid. So far they haven't broken down like other Sony products have

The sound quality is great and the speakers are perfect for small spaces. A lot of power for small size. This is my second set of Sony speakers, great value for the price.

The comparison between various speakers on display within the price range I was looking to spend left me with no option, Sony wins! The quality inherent in these compact speakers is unmatched by the competition. They are small enough to fit anywhere in the room yet are able to produce a sound the belies their compact design. I'd recommend these to anyone looking to put together a system that takes up limited space yet still packs a punch.

These are very well built and great sounding speakers for the money. Did a lot of research before pulling the trigger, and at the on sale price these are amazing speakers for the price. These go toe to toe with other 500-600 bookshelves in my opinion.

These are excellent speakers for my vintage stereo system. My 45 year old Kenwood KR-2400 receiver/amplifier is rated at just 17W/channel, but is well matched to these new speakers and sounds great. It provides plenty of volume for my modestly sized apartment living room with these speakers. I got a pair of Rockville stands to put some distance above the floor, and provide some acoustic isolation (important in an apartment complex).

Even at full price, this is a good buy. At $88,- almost a steal. Driving them with an integrated class d amp from Loxije (DAC, pre-amp, headphone amp, power amp with blue tooth, optical, RCA, USB in and a sub out and 2 speakers out) and using them for mostly music in a small to medium-sized room. They can stand on their own, but a subwoofer makes them even better by adding more volume to the bass that even without still is punchy enough

The Yamaha amplifier I ordered is working great. It's almost got too much power and it's blowing out my high quality Infinity speakers. It even registers decibels. The soundbar could be better. Still having trouble understanding the dialogue of the movies. Think it might just be the source of the transmission. The bookshelf speakers work fine for a small system. I placed the order and it showed up the next day under standard shipping. I was shocked that it got here so quick. Very good customer service.

After comparing others these were recommended. They are a great size for the apartment. Not an audiophile but to me they sound great with all I need. Good bass which I like.

I'm using these speakers as an upgrade to the tiny satellite speakers found in my Yamaha Home Theater System YHT-399UBL. I also got the Sony Core center speaker and together they now make up the front left, center, and right of my 5.1 speaker setup (other speakers are still the Yamaha supplied ones). The sound quality from these speakers is excellent for the money, size, and for my purposes (watching BD movies, Netflix streaming, console gaming, and some HD cable TV watching). Music also sounds great, though I don't use it much for that (unless you count music in movies and games). One thing worth mentioning is right now the sub woofer I'm using is not able to compete with these speakers too well and so the low end seems to be lacking vs. the mid range and high end. That's not a fault of these speakers, just the sub woofer's limitations (50 watts RMS, 8-inch driver). So, I'll need to upgrade the sub woofer so that the low end can match the great mid range and high end these Sony Cores can provide. For that, I'm looking at the Dayton Audio SUB-1200, which sells for around $125 and has 120 watts RMS and a long throw 12-inch driver.

Can take living with a cat if that matters to you. I have it in front of a window my cat thinks is its bed while looking out. Solid sound. Base is good. Are there better speakers…yes. For this price level I would say these a great.

This pair of bookshelf speakers is compact yet provides ample volume and sound quality for a good sized room. I am pleased with the clarity of the high tones and the range of treble and bass. They are easy to place in different locations and fit well in the dining area.

I upgraded to these from my Edifier R1280T speakers due to Edifiers lacking on the low end when placed farther away. I can't really say enough good things about the Sony SCSS5 speakers; when spaced apart and angled correctly they sound terrific. For the price I'd at least give them a chance.

These were not my first choice for bookshelf speakers. Was originally looking at a set of Elac's. However, with all the high ratings on these speakers from nearly everyone, and a sale at the time of purchase, I couldn't turn this down. These don't have a huge amount of bass, but that's fine as I have a subwoofer to supplement on the low end. To me, these sound crisp and clean, are easy to power, and sound amazing. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend these to anyone, especially with the low price point.

Needed something on the smaller side to fit in the space on top of my bookshelf. These did the job perfectly. Got them on sale. Excellent sound quality, really clear all around speakers. Just using an older receiver to drive them and they sound great. Solid buy. Sony is a trusted brand in our household.

great speakers, great sound and great price.. What else can you ask for? I've been a sony fan all my life and they continue to make great products at great prices.. I will always continue to buy Sony - they stand behind their products and they last for many years.

These speakers were bought to replace 35+ year old Klipsch Forte II speakers connected to a 100 watt integrated amplifier. The sound is very good for lower level speakers. They can handle the wattage of my amplifier. The bass sound is pretty good for this speaker. The only downside to these speakers that my Klipsch speakers had was more of a fuller area of sound. I think that is due to the rear passive radiator that the Klipsch speakers had. Ibwould recommend these speakers to thise who want to have decent sound in an inexpensive speaker that does not take up a large footprint.
