A Sony Camera 18.2 MP, 5X great picture level for less than 200 USD. Smaller than your smart phone and better images for sure.

I bought my wife this camera for an early Christmas present because she was going on a cruise. I researched underwater cameras for affordability and picture quality. I came to the conclusion that this camera was the one I was going to purchase and let me just say that it blew my expectations out of the water... The camera takes gorgeous pictures both in and out of the water and crisp full HD video. I will say that it does slightly over saturate the colors some but lets face it that is what most people do with instagram anyways. I would highly recommend this camera to any one looking for a good camera for snorkeling. It is an excellent price for the quality you get. Since we have purchased this camera 3 more family members have bought one for themselves as well. Great Camera A+

Great pics and video resolution. Used it once under water, tried again no longet waterproof. Luckily it still works, but lacks its intended use. Disappointed for a Sony product.

I bought this camera to replace a Nikon waterproof camera that was stolen. I spent quite a bit of time reading the other reviews for this camera. I then went to Best Buy to see it in person to get a better feel for the camera. The store I went to did not have this model in stock so after some consideration I went ahead and bought it on the Best Buy website. It was shipped quickly and was well packaged and in perfect condition upon arrival. It seemed well made and I liked that it was small and fit in my pocket. I also liked that when I slid the cover down it was immediately ready to use. A few weeks later I took it to Colorado and it did well in the cold and snow. The pictures were good. I then went to the Florida keys 2 months later and it did not do very well. It got sand in it even though the cover was closed. Also the very first time I put it under the water in the pool, not the ocean, it broke. It shut off and would not turn back on. I would not buy this product again. The pictures weren't bad but previous Nikon and canon point and shoot cameras were definitely better quality than the Sony. While it did seem nice at first it didn't last very long for the price and I'm not happy at all with this camera. Definitely not waterproof.

I really wanted to make this camera work, but unfortunately, it did not last a weekend in Vegas (which, in all honesty, if it did, I would gladly have kept the item rather than return it!). Fact is, this camera's image quality is similar to that of older versions of the Sony camera's which is unfortunate, but they have their work cut out for them. Hopefully the next iteration is much better than the one now.

Flash for this camera is very bad and when set up on Auto mode not working consistently...I called the Sony Customer Support and they told me this camera designed when the light is low, that flash is working...I think Sony designed this camera to make a decision for photographer !!!! The pictures of this camera is so dark and have very poor quality...If you want to use your flash and have a good picture, BE AWARE OF THIS CAMERA.

This camera is easy to use and take great pictures. The video quality is great as well. I found it so easy to use i got one for my 70 year old parents who stated in my day cameras took film. Once we got past refecting on the past they were off and shoot photos of the grand kids

This camera is so compact and lightweight that it can be taken anywhere. I bought the camera for my honeymoon in two months. I've been using my smartphone as a camera for years, but I do not want to take a smartphone to Jamaica so I thought I'd finally cave and buy a digital camera. I am beyond thrilled I bought this camera! It is adorable and so easy to use, and the flash is so bright! I took a picture in a completely dark room and the picture came out looking like I had all the lights on in the house! The only complaint I have is the button to capture the image isn't on the corner of the camera where it usually is. I keep tapping the zoom button by accident while taking a picture. I guess I'll get used to the setup of this camera though, and I'll stop doing that eventually.

    Rugged, compact, takes good photos

The most important thing to remember about this camera is that it is compact and rugged. This isn't meant to compete with mirror-less cameras, high end point-and-shoot cameras, or DSLRs. You shouldn't expect pro-level picture quality out of this camera. It will, however, take better pictures than the best smartphone on the market and you can literally take it anywhere. The rugged design of the camera allows me to throw it in my pocket and take it everywhere I go. I don't have to worry about sweat, hot or cold temperatures, or bumping it in my pocket or when taking photos. The lens cover (which slides down to turn the camera on and slides up to turn it off, you can also use the dedicated power button) stays in place and takes some force to open so the camera won't accidentally turn on and drain when it's in your pocket or bag. The camera is about the size of a small stack of credit cards and is easy to operate. Sony includes a dead-simple user interface and two modes that most people will use: intelligent auto and superior intelligent auto (which I use most of the time). You will rarely switch modes as the camera does a good job of automatically detecting when shots need to be HDR as well as when it's time to implement the (rather bright) flash. The lens has an LED ring around it which helps illuminate subjects during Macro shots, something that the flash would completely blow out. Panoramic pictures come out fine and are stitched together quite nicely. The camera features optical image stabilization which helps with low-light shots as does the back-lit image sensor. I still experience some blur when taking nighttime shots but they are few and far between compared to my old Sony point-and-shoot. Day and night shots will be better than images taken with a smartphone. The pictures produced by the TX30 camera are better than my iPhone 5, Galaxy S5, Note Edge, iPhone 6S Plus, and S7 Edge. You can also take the camera to the beach with you and snap some underwater photos, it is also great for the pool. The camera will work up to a maximum depth of 33 ft which is actually on par with many action cameras (such as the GoPro HERO Session). The TX30 will take much better pictures than any GoPro and its video quality is top notch. I record everything at 1080i and 60 fps (interlaced). I edit my videos using iMovie to de-interlace the frames and take away some of the shaky-cam (which is minor but still there). My only real complaint regarding this camera is that there isn't built-in GPS or wi-fi. GPS is nice as it automatically geo-tags photos (so I don't have to do that later) and wi-fi is nice as it would have allowed me to copy photos off of the camera's memory card onto my smartphone, tablet, or PC without having to plug it in. Those are minor complaints though. Yes, the camera is a little expensive and there are point-and-shoot cameras that have more zoom and take better pictures for the $230 price. However, the TX30 is at least twice as small as those, it is small enough to take anywhere, the two intelligent picture modes are really solid, and you can take the TX30 to most places where most other digital cameras can't go (like underwater). Night pictures do lose a little detail but daytime shots are great. I highly recommend this if you want a rugged, compact camera for taking better pictures than your smartphone. I also recommend the orange color as it stands out so the camera won't blend in with your other electronics and it makes things easier when taking pictures of people at night (they know where to look). I also recommend buying screen protectors for the camera (just in case). You can also buy a floating wrist strap (from Sony) if you ever plan on taking this to the pool or ocean. It's nice as the wrist strap is buoyant enough to keep the camera at the water surface so, if something does happen, you can easily find your camera. Otherwise it's going to sink to the bottom of whatever body of water you're in (which should be fine given the 33 ft depth limitation of the camera).

    Performed flawlessly

It felt really odd carrying electronics into the ocean, but it performed quite well. When the water wasn't churning silt from the ocean floor, I could get some quite nice pictures with good lighting and everything. I was pleasantly surprised, in the end, and compared to the cost of buying any other camera plus a water proof case for it, or even the cost of JUST a water proof case, the price of this camera was really great for the value. I was probably being a little extra cautious, but what I liked to do was bring a small Tupperware full of tap water to the beach with me since we rarely come out of the water and then go straight home to be able to perform the after care for the camera. Instead, when I was done I'd just drop the camera into the Tupperware until we got home and that helped to dissolve any salt and remove any sand/grit that may be left behind from the last swim. It wasn't really cumbersome since you don't need a massive amount of water, and you could of course have used the showers at the beach etc to fill it if you find that easier.. The only downside is that I got so carried away thinking about keeping this camera clean and taking care of it that I got a little lax with respect to caring for my cell phone...I managed to swim with the cell phone in my pocket for the better part of a half an hour before realizing it and by then it was too late! At no fault of the camera, of course. :)
