I wanted a simple DVD player without a lot of bells & whistles; and so far, this one seems to fit the bill. It is easy to operate and the sound and picture are very clear. At first, I was a little concerned about noise I heard when there was silence in the DVD that was playing, but I figured it was normal since it did not seem to interfere with the overall sound quality when there is talking or music playing on the DVD.

If you literally just need to play DVDs on a TV, this will accomplish your goal. And pretty much nothing more. It ships with the old school composite cables (red yellow white) and achieves breathtaking VCR-level resolution as a result. The menus will remind you of late 80's-early 90's era VCRs. Mega block font, anyone?
But, again, that's what this is supposed to be. This isn't trying to be fancy or offer a ton of features or compete with big Blu-Ray players. This is a DVD player, plain and simple.
I would recommend this to a friend if he said, "Hey, I am looking for a DVD player that does literally nothing else, I don't need HD, I just want to play a DVD."

The DVD player I had bit the dust, tray would not open/close. With my hookup I had to have one that supported the composite connections. Worked fine and has several features my old one did not. Well worthe the money.
