My first G Lens, I used to cover video for an event. Fast focus, the only lens you'll need when shooting video.. Can do both wide and tight and fast focus after matching with Sony A6400

Awesome lens! I came from the Nikon side of the fence. Sold all my gear and went SONY mirrorless with a6500.This lens is very sharp edge to edge, has color reproduction and detail comparable to a Nikon lens. F4 is a compromise to keep the price low. At F2.8 this lens would have probably cost twice as much and likely be larger too. I haven't found that to be a problem though. I can still get a nice portrait at 105mm with blurred background and nice subject isolation.

Researched this compared to the Zeiss 16-70mm F4. Bought this mostly due to the price and the power zoom, but it is better than I expected. If you don't want to spend as much on the Zeiss, would recommend this lens.

I was stuck between the 18-135mm and this lens. After testing both out, I ended up keeping the 18-135mm lens, but not because of any fault in this lens. I decided on the 18-135mm due to the manual zoom vs the power zoom on this one. If you're going to be shooting videos at all, GET THIS LENS. The power zoom with the fixed aperture will give you better results vs a manual zoom while shooting video. I mainly take portraits with no real video recording done, and that's basically what my decision came down to.

Very good lens for video. Especially on the a7rii shooting 4k video. The only downside I find about this lens is that when shooting HD in low light it produces a bit more noise. My guess is that due to the crop mode. Also digital zoom in HD will increase the noise level the higher factor is used. This lens is perfect on a gimbal as the lens doesnt extend or contracts.

I take great pictures with this lens. Lens blocks focus assist light so it's slower to autofocus in low light and the lens also blocks the pop up flash up to 50mm after that no shadow.

I've been on the search for a solid zoom lens for a few months now and after quite a bit of research I settles on this 18-105mm f/4 and couldn't be happier. It's most effective for filming b-roll on camera bodies with built in stabilization, but its also a great all-around lens to leave on when you're not sure what you're going to need on a day out!

The optics are very good. The focus is fast. The best part about this lens is the zoom is self contained. I was able to take this into an NFL game because it doesn't extend past 6 inches.
The only negative thing I will say about it is that it doesn't retract wide enough on a non full frame camera.
Regardless, I love this lens and it is my go to for normal shooting.
