Great, low-cost device to introduce digital artist

I purchased a refurbished model from Best Buy, both as work computer for marketing tasks and light photoshopping, and also for on-the-go sketching (I'm a webcomic artist) and to introduce myself to N-Trig tablets, as I've been a Wacom baby my whole digital artist life. $400 was a great price for all of that. The pentium makes it too laggy to run the Artrage program that came with the computer (I don't know if it comes with all machines or just the BB Geek Squad ones), but slip Wintab on this thing and Paint Tool SAI works lovely.
Technology wise, this is basically a Surface Pro 3 with a much lesser processor. I was able to get a lot of online help with the stylus by searching my problems in Surface Pro 3 forums. Best Buy forgot to ship the stylus with my device so they reimbursed me the funds to buy a Surface pen from a nearby store. It works the same. If you don't like how the original pen feels, any N-Trig duo-sense pen will work (I need to thank the reviewer who mentioned this in the Q and A, but the product is now gone from the site)..
For artists: You will need to press the pen down pretty hard to get a decent stroke on the canvas. I had a friend try a hand at this machine but he draws so lightly that his sketching strokes barely registered on the screen. Also, the side and top buttons are app specific. You can click a sidebutton and tap down for a right click, but those buttons are otherwise useless to almost every program you probably use. If you are a dedicated Wacom user who makes constant use of the eraser, side buttons and 1000+ levels of pressure sensitivity, you will be crying and probably screaming during the first several or several dozen times you use this or the Surface Pro 3 (or any N-Trig device). If you want to adapt to this or have no choice, it becomes more comfortable to use over time. Just make sure you see the pen cursor on the screen before you rest your palm down.
The trackpad is super sensitive, but there is an off switch for that on the keyboard. I turn it on briefly for clicking on things that i have a hard time with via pen/touch, then turn it back off.
The screen is such a fingerprint magnet. A microfiber cloth works best on cleaning that up easily.
Overall, this machine has been an amazing find. If you need a portable device for social networking and drawing with mild-intensity software, I recommend this. There are more powerful versions of this device that can fully compete with the Surface Pro 3 AND it actually comes with a keyboard.

I would write to you so I came to Brazil, when I discovered the default keyboard, but the hectic routine prevented me from doing this. So I am happy that you have come in contact with me;
When I turned on the laptop I realize that the keyboard was not working, but figured it was out of battery. As soon as I arrived in Brazil, I took charge, but still did not work. The two keyboard lights flash, but nothing else happens.
What should I do? I settle into some technical assistance from Sony, or you solve?
Again, Thank you for the contact, and sorry for bad english, but the google translator helped me ...
I await your response.
Goodbye

At $399 a much better choice than Bay Trail. The Pentium CPU provides at least the same experience for Windows 8 apps, Office, Web and Email. But this has a 128GB FAST SSD, not the slow 32/64GB memory on a Bay Trail. And a great 1080P display as well. In the thinnest form factor for a 10/11 inch device, and a keyboard included.
To be sure, this is not going to win a contest with an I5 when it comes to intensive CPU tasks, but I have a desktop PC for that. The keyboard is not a rival for a Thinkpad, but at this price who else is even including a keyboard at all?
I don't think you can go wrong with this, I am very happy with the Tap 11.

This is a great value for the money. It was originally priced at $800, but I got it refurbished for $400. It has 4GB of RAM and a 128GB solid state hard drive - you can't find a comparable tablet/PC anywhere near that price.

I found the product to be very good but can't give it 5stars due to refurbisment being very poor. Could not stay connected to Internet even though all my other equipment did. I have had Vaios for many years, I only wish this had been properly refurbished!

It's great for a small laptop. Windows operating system doesn't work properly sometimes. Being refurbished screen acts up may need to send in for repairs.

Excellent ultrabook for the price. The display's quality is second to none. The front and rear facing cameras are very convenient. The design and finish are sleek, modern, and sophisticated. I definitely recommend this computer!

This product replaced my Sony laptop, I'm really happy with the size and weight. So far performance is good too but I only use for personal needs and basic business reporting.

The kickstand really cannot function on the lap, so that kills the ergonomics of the device. It looks nice, and runs the (well overrated) Windows 8.1, but in all, I had to return it once I realized its functioning as a laptop is all but impossible.

This is a fast and powerful laptop and can run apps or the full programs. I prefer the actual program at times because they have more options then the app. Buying a certified refurbished laptop with the geek squad supporting it can save a good amount of money.

This is a great tablet since it includes a keyboard. It is typical VAIO quality, which impresses me a lot, and one could never tell it was refurbished. The Geek Squad did a fine job with this one. I believe it is much better than the Surface.

The computer obviously still had an issue even though I bought because it was Geek Squad Refurbished but that was not the case it still had problems so I returned to my local Best Buy. Last time I will ever buy refurbished anything from Best Buy. After I returned I bought a new computer while at the store.

Purchased refurbished. Keyboard was awkward and would not stay on to protect screen. I was most excited to use the digitizer pen for photos which I could never figure out how to use. Returned for MacBook Air.

I've been using my Tap 11 for over 6 months and it works great as a tablet and laptop. This is perfect for email, web browsing, Microsoft office documents editing and finance tracking. The little handle in the back is useful but cumbersome to deploy. It has decent Stereo speakers, a USB 3 and a microSD slot which I use frequently. This has replaced my desktop and laptop. It has a full version of win8 so some win8 apps for tablets/phone are not compatible.
I did run into problems upgrading win8 to win8 pro, but that's OS problem. The remote control feature is great to eliminate the number of remotes in the house. I also use it to sync my IPhone and Xperia ZL.
It doesn't have a DVD drive, though it is becoming old tech. It's a tablet size fully functioning laptop. I'd recommend the core i5 win8 pro version rather than the one I have (the base model).

Been working in the Gulf of Mexico Oilfield for +25 years. I buy a new computer every single year (EVERY YEAR) for the last 15 years. This is a hard environment and I am tough on equipment. This thing is great. Does all the MS Office programs I use (Excel, Word, Visio, Power Point, etc., etc.) Plus Smith Micro Anime Plus and others, as well as Auto Cad. I love the fact this thing is small, light, versatile and durable. I am hoping someone will make or someone does make some kind of Gorilla case for it so I can even use it for some offshore ninja beat downs. I saw the other review and understand the guys frustration. I bought a bad donut once, doesn't mean all donuts are bad....just that one. Look maybe this tablet isn't for you but I drive a lot to get to docks to catch boats and go offshore and I also throw my stuff into helicopters and fly out there. They load me and my equipment as well as many others into large baskets and crane pick all up and away and this baby keeps doing what I need it to do. I buy every August to take advantage of back to school specials and I will be getting another one...no doubts no hesitation!! And if it doesn't work right it goes back to Best Buy and those great people take care of everything. That is why not only do I like this particular tablet but why I ALWAYS BUY FROM BEST BUY, and no one else!

I was looking for a tablet that can provide me with full windows and a very thin and lightweight design and sony has met all of these criteria. I read some negative reviews but still decided to purchase this item. I guess some people did not get the stylus with their purchase since it is not listed with the accessories that come in the box, but i did receive a stylus and everything works great. super light, very thin, full windows, great quality built, the kickstand is very durable for its size, keyboard is very responsive and touch pad for mouse is great as well. I am very happy with this tablet and hope this review can help some people in making their decisions. Only problem was that the first tablet I received was defective and I had to go to bestbuy to exchange but they gave me next day shipping and a $55 dollar gift card which was nice. So if you do decide to order and receive an item that is not in perfect condition bestbuy is great at quickly fixing this issue. I am very happy with this tablet. Also install all sony updates (very simple on desktop there is an update icon) before upgrating to windows 8.1
