This is just right. I have the Subwoofer next to my chair in the living room. Plus we have a 17' ceiling in the living room. Cathedral style. Go Sony. You'll love it. Plus, go Best Buy for Electronics not other stores. The sales person's are the most knowledgeable than the constant turn around of employees in other stores. We want to make sure you're getting the best experience possible, so we’d love for you to try these quick steps to see if they sharpen things up:
-For the best audio quality, use a wired connection (preferably HDMI ARC/eARC if your TV has it) and set your TV’s digital audio output to PCM.
-Ensure both your TV and soundbar have the latest firmware updates installed. https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/sound-bars-home-theater-systems-sound-bars-surround-speakers/ht-s400/software/00278020
-Experiment with the soundbar’s built-in sound modes, such as “Voice” or “Sound Field,” to see which one sounds best in your room.

Decent but lacking

However highs leave a lot to be desired. Ended up using tv speaker to get the higher frequencies. Which is a pain having to deal with two separate volumes.

If you'd like to enhance the highs on your soundbar, we recommend checking whether your TV has a built-in equalizer. Adjusting or tuning the equalizer to boost the high frequencies can also improve how the highs sound through the HTS400, which may help create a more balanced listening experience.

I bought it to replace my Vizio soundbar and sub that blew a speaker. That Vizio was half the price and sounded twice as good. The sub is lacking in power and its bulky. The soundbar has really old fashioned looking display and the remote will be needed because some functions wont go universal. When I try to use my cable remote I have to have it perfectly aligned with the device. Its just ok.
