Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing intermittent issues with the subwoofer performance on your Sony HT-S400 system. To ensure your audio experience is consistent, we recommend trying the following troubleshooting steps:
1. Unplug the soundbar and the subwoofer from the power outlet for approximately 2 minutes. Plug them back in and test the audio again. This often clears temporary communication glitches between the units.
2. Check the subwoofer’s power indicator:
If it lights red, move the subwoofer closer to the bar speaker until the indicator changes to green or amber.
3. If the problem persists, reset the speaker system as follows:
Press and hold the power button and the volume down (–) button on the bar speaker for more than 5 seconds until [RESET] appears on the front panel display. This will restore the system to its initial settings. Disconnect the AC power cord, then reconnect it and turn the system back on by pressing the power button.

As it turns out the Sony Bravia TV I bought has high quality speakers and I did not need the sound bar. The sound was more crisp and clear without this bar.

I shut everything off (sound bar, tv, console, etc) but the sound bar will turn on by itself 30 seconds, a minute, 5 minutes, or even an hour later by itself. I went through every setting possible even Sony's website and Reddit's suggestions but still turns on on its own. Not a deal breaker but annoying.
