I purchased this online as an open-box in "Excellent" condition and it had "Inspected by Best Buy" stickers on it. Well, not so fast. There was no manual, no quick start guide, and no remote control. To make matters worse, on their website, Best Buy has a "Returns and Support" tab. It only gives me the option to return, with no support. I hope to get this resolved so that I can check out the sound bar and then give it a good review. But right now, I'm stinging from getting burned. Best Buy's quality control is not good.

Very poor quality. Barely got it on December 2024 and does not work anymore no wonder they ( Best Buy pushes a warranty on you.
Not worth biy this product.

compared to our 4 year old Vizio, this unit has no treble or bass controls and only 2 sound processing options. The sound bar lacks treble and generally sounds muddy. The unit is cheaply made (particle wood); not that I expected a lot in this price range.

Was supposed to be in excellent condition and fully warranted. The volume does not work properly and the sub-woofer case was damaged. I got a reaponse from Best Buy thanking me for letting them know! Seriously????, what is Beat Buy going to do about it???? HELLO!!!!!!!

Very disappointing. Tv had better sound. Bass was horrible. No discernible difference. Got a Samsung sound bar to replace it. The Samsung has been awesome.

Disappointed, not much better than my TV speakers. We set the TV speaker volume at half total volume to hear comfortably, with the sound bar we still have to set the volume at half full volume. Not worth it.

Sony HTS400 Soundbar and Subwoofer
I love watching movies, shows and playing games on my television. And what do all of them have in common? Sound.
The sound experience is one of the factors that make for the entertainment experience. However, a lot of people don’t know what they might be missing if they settle for the default speakers from their television.
Recently, my soundbar that I’ve had for several years wasn’t performing well. The subwoofer was randomly cutting out and the soundbar itself wasn’t projecting the dialogue from the characters as minor background noises occurred in said movie or show.
It was time to get a new soundbar.
I got the Sony HTS400 not knowing what to expect. I just wanted it to deliver a better experience than my prior soundbar. I am happy to say that the HTS400 did not disappoint!
Set-Up:
There’s nothing complicated when it comes to setting up the HTS400. It’s plug-and-play. You can use the included optic cable and run the cable between your TV and the soundbar or you can choose to use an HDMI cable (not included) and plug it into the soundbar’s ARC port. Either way, it’s easy. I didn’t need to link the subwoofer. Once the subwoofer was plugged in, it wirelessly connected to the soundbar without any complications.
Performance:
I immediately noticed the difference in the sound when I turned on my TV. It is rich and pours out from the soundbar compared to my previous soundbar which seemed more bottlenecked with the sound in comparison. It’s a clearer sound experience.
If you’re looking for a BOOMING bass then the HTS400 isn’t going to feed that hunger. The bass from this subwoofer is decent and not overwhelming. But that’s not to say that the HTS400 doesn’t deliver a fun sound experience. I was playing Elden Ring and it was amazing to hear the clanging of the swords while the winds howled in the background as the menacing music grew louder. It was a sound experience that put me in the gaming moment.
When it comes to the movies and series that I watch, HTS400 didn’t disappoint. I continued one Netflix series and found that the characters could be heard without needing to turn up the volume or activate the Voice enhancer option. There’s also a Sound Field feature that seems to ‘deepen’ the sounds when activated as if an additional speaker has been turned on.
If you do opt for the Voice enhancer, the HTS400 pushes back the background noise and allows a more focused delivery of the character(s) talking.
There aren’t any other features for this soundbar which is great if you are looking for a simpler and streamlined sound experience. You can link any Bluetooth device to the soundbar with ease for when you might want to play music from your phone, etc.
Go For It:
The Sony HTS400 is a great option if you’re looking for a soundbar that delivers a great sound experience. I honestly think you’ll enjoy it as much as I do.

I was sold a defective product. Did not work out of the box and I called customer service and I am told it is too late to return.. I asked how? I have owned it for less than 30 days and it has never been used and no damages. It does not turn on I am very disappointed that Sony would make this and best buy have not replaced it. Buyer Beware!

One of the worst products I’ve ever bought. Typically Sony is a decently reliable brand but with this the input changes on its, sound changes on its own and all the settings change on their own. It’s very frustrating to use and ended up unplugging it and it became a useless paperweight
