It's better than Nothing. It was decent sound for a Lower End Sony Sound Bar. Entry Level? Since HDTV's don't really have any Volume forcing you to buy a Sound Bar. I could Not get it to Pair with TV Volume. Always had to use Sony Remote to adjust volume as Opposed to the Cable Remote. 2 remotes is annoying. Which was also Annoying because I had a Sony TV I was using it with. (You would think they would Pair) Apparently there's no HDMI on the HT-S400 and you need that to use with the ARC HDMI on TV, I think. Anyway I bought the next one up on the Sony food chain when it was on sale and now new one Pairs with TV remote by using HDMI cable frpm bar to tv.

I enjoy this speaker system for our TV. I am older and having some hearing issues. My biggest beef is you have to tweak around with the settings to get the voices clearer. The good news is it can be done. It's an improvement over the TV speakers on my fairly new TV.

Great little subwoofer for cinema effects but the crossover from soundbar to sub might be a tad too high. l find that the voice mode isn't enough to compensate for the midrange deficiencies even with the bass turned right down to the minimum.
Overall, an improvement over my TV's built-in sound for effects and stage size but, for content with a lot of dialog, voices are more easily understood via the TV's built-in speaker system. I didn't find better soundbar and sub for the same low price.
TV: Sony X90L
Age of Ears: 64
Reference cinema speakers: Harbeth P3ESR/Yamaha YST-SW315 sub.
An improvement, but installation may be a struggle

The performance is decent but I have a hard time distinguishing the vocal track in my favorite show, Billions. Many of the actors have deep/timbered voices and even the 'voice mode' for this soundbar doesn't provide a good experience.
Despite that, the sound is of course an improvement over the built-in speakers of my Samsung TV, so it is a welcome addition. Music sounds great and there's plenty of bass from the subwoofer.
However, installation is hampered by the far-too-short electrical cords. I had to get an extension to simply reach from the top of my dresser down to the floor where my outlet is. This is an area of improvement that may leave people simply unable to use the setup altogether.
As my TV doesn't have HDMI ARC capabilities, I'm running off the *included* (very nice!) TOSLINK (aka Optical Audio) cable for my setup. No issues here.
