    Powerful Sound Bar Package

Sony’s latest home theater sound bar, the A3000 comes in a nice package that allows for flexibility and customization. We had an older sound bar in our living room, but my wife said that it was easier to hear it when she was upstairs compared to when she was sitting on the couch in our living room. I’d tried all the tuning options, and then decided to punt and try the new A3000. I found the sound bar to be a welcome replacement. In terms of what’s in the box, you get: - A3000 sound bar - Power / HDMI cables - Remote w/ batteries In terms of connectivity, the A3000 boasts: - eARC HDMI input - USB input for network devices - AirPlay / Bluetooth for wireless audio Since I wanted to be able to get the most out of the sound bar, I connected my LG OLED 4K tv to the A3000 using the eARC connection and the supplied, high-speed HDMI cable. I was really impressed by how well it sounded, even with watching something in Dolby ATMOS. I read up a bit about the device and learned the A3000 doesn’t actually have the dedicated speakers that fire upward for ATMOS audio - but rather creates a simulated ATMOS effect using software. Honestly, I could tell that it wasn’t as full sounding as my media room’s setup, but it was way better than the device we had in our living room previously. Sony’s also taken a page from other higher end home theater setups by enabling you to purchase and link a dedicated sub woofer and rear speakers to create a full 5.1 surround sound setup. On its own, the A3000 produces really good sound, but if you’re wanting to get the most out of the unit, then I also recommend looking at the sub woofer and RS3S speaker set. It’ll be expensive to build out, but if you’re in the market and willing to invest, then it’s good to have options. When I set the unit up, I went through everything, the A3000 also will auto-tune itself for the environment you place it in as part of the initial set up. Since I’m an iPhone user, I also took advantage of the Apple AirPlay set up route towards the end. This had the added benefit of having the A3000 appear as a speaker in AirPlay and my Home app - so I can group it with other AirPlay speakers throughout the house. Between movies, TV shows, and music, the A3000 has done great with everything we’ve thrown at it. The only reason I haven’t rated it 5 stars is because of the price point. At $700, there are other Dolby ATMOS enabled speakers out there that are not as expensive. If you already have a Sony BRAVIA TV, then going with the A3000 is a no-brainer. But if you’re not invested in a Sony setup, then you might find more options out there that do everything the A3000 does at a lower price point.

Impressive Surround Sound, Good as a TV speaker

The impressive surround sound is only achieved when you pair it with rear speakers, and even better when you also add a subwoofer. I tested this soundbar both by listening to it when watching television and movies, and also when listening to just music. I listened to it by itself, then also paired to a set of Sony wireless rear speakers (RS3S) and to a Sony wireless subwoofer (SW3) all at the same time. While of course you will get optimal sound with the entire set, the soundbar is quite good all by itself as well. It performed the best when I used it to watch television and movies--listening to dialogue, special effect sounds, and the music within tv shows and movies. When simply listening to music, I felt it was good but not great; for the listed price of this particular soundbar, I would honestly pay the few hundred more to upgrade to the A5000, especially for true audiophiles who love their music. However, it really excels when used with at least a pair of rear speakers for the total 360 immersive sound experience. And when a subwoofer is added, it really packs a punch. The concept of surround sound is something that has to be personally experienced firsthand to appreciate how advanced and futuristic it sounds and feels. Sony has a program called 360 Spatial Sound which maps the room the speakers are placed in, to calibrate all of them (soundbar, rear speakers, and subwoofer all together) in such a way that it achieves what it calls sound field optimization, and the results really stand out. If you want a good soundbar to pair with your tv, I would recommend this; however, if you really want the best experience--especially when listening to music--you need to also purchase the rear speakers and perhaps also the subwoofer as well.

The Sony HTA3000 has been an exciting addition to my living room. Essentially, it’s the entry level sound bar to the family, but not much is stripped away compared its counterparts. This item produces great clarity and above average bass that performs well. What I enjoyed most from using this soundbar is the different connectivity options. I was able to setup my smart AI assistant choice, Chromecast, and Bluetooth connection with much ease. Furthermore, the interface of HTA3000 is very responsive. Despite all of the positives, this soundbar does have drawbacks. Other models within this same family line provide receiver functionality by making a HDMI port available. Unfortunately, this soundbar has no such feature and users will have to cope with being down an HDMI port. However, this is only a minor gripe given that not many other similar priced soundbars contain this ability. In conclusion, this is a sound bar that doesn’t need much help. However, it’s best paired with its other relatives (subwoofer & rear speakers) to take advantage of a 360 audio experience. It’s sized right for an apartment and a standard living room. Yet, it’s not the total package, but an important component of one.

When it comes to the audio system I opt to use for my tv’s I am a sound bar person solely for the simplicity behind the setup and the adequate audio enhancement over just the built-in tv speakers. As someone that completely understands that you will never get the same quality as you would from a true sound system I don’t expect to be completely blown away. This sound bar however is quite impressive for me. Setup was pretty simple and the sound quality was great on its own. To get the full effect of though you have to buy the subwoofer and rear speakers separately. This may be the only con I can think of so far if you can even call it a con…since every other sound bar I have owned came with a subwoofer which seems pretty standard. It’s not a huge deal but it’s something you may want to keep in mind…especially if you weren’t expecting to pay more to take advantage of the full features such as 360 Spatial Sound Mapping. If you have a compatible Sony Bravia TV (I hooked this up to my Bravia XR X90K) you can enjoy the Acoustic Center Sync. Ultimately, if you’re looking for a hardcore setup this won’t quench your thirst…no sound bar will. But if you are looking for a great upgrade to your tv viewing experience with some nice immersion features without the complex setup or even higher price tag of some of the high end sound bar options you will definitely want to give this a try.

This is a typical Bose product which means it is high quality and easy to set up. The sound is good for a small soundbar and it was plug and play. My only complaint, there is no numerical scale, only a plus/minus.

Sony really knows what they are doing with home theater surround sound and this new sound bar is no exception. This 3.1 sound bar sits in a really great spot as a more budget friendly sound bar, but still delivers the superior audio quality you get with most Sony Sound bars. The sound quality overall is stellar. The channels all work together to give clear, rich dialogue while also delivering a surround sound feeling in a compact package. This sound bar works great in smaller rooms where a bigger system may be overkill. We use ours in a fairly small living area and it was plenty loud enough for us and definitely an upgrade over our TV's build in speakers. The built in subwoofers work well, but if you are hoping for that deep rumble, I would definitely opt for one of Sony's dedicated subwoofers. They work really well with this system. Setting things up is really straight forward, you can use HDMI eARC or optical to connect to your TV, so no real configuring to be done. The sound bar only has output, so you'll need to do all your input switching in the TV itself. After that, it's really just sit back and enjoy the impressive sound. I can't say there is much to not like about this sound bar. It checks all the boxes you'd want with dolby atmos and cool 360 mapping technology that automatically adjusts the sound mix to best suite the room that you are set up in. I'm not sure exactly how it works, but the end result is a great sounding setup, with very minimal effort to get things sounding good. It also comes with all the expected extras like bluetooth compatibility, chrome-cast support, and Apple AirPlay. All work exactly as expected. If you've used any of these features before, you'll be right at home with them here. Overall, amazing sound bar and would recommend to anyone looking for a sound bar in this price range.

High end experience at a mid-range price

First let me explain the with subject line for the review title for the Sony - HTA3000 3.1 ch Dolby Atmos Soundbar. Low End experience = below 499 Mid-Range: 500-999 High-end: above 1k Ok, so you already know that from the subject title the this review, the Sony - HTA3000 3.1 ch Dolby Atmos Soundbar performs in the High-end slot while being rather affordable at $699. There is one caveat. One that makes it sound like an echo chamber in here - but I feel like if I don't mention it I will be hung out to dry. To me (gets ready to run away) the bass is perfectly acceptable if this is going to be a TV/Movie daily driver. If It's going to be ANYTHING more than that (and it can and will be!) please make the investment in the sub-woofer (which weighs more than most children) and satellite speakers. The mid freqs with the Sony - HTA3000 3.1 ch Dolby Atmos Soundbar are the real winners. There are too many times where we are made to experience the "envelope effect" with mids, and that is ridiculous. The HTA3000 does a nice job unfolding not just the mids but the highs as well! Getting ahead of myself (as usual) the connectivity is a tiny bit bare, but it makes up for it. You get HDMI in (and an out). Optical in, and yes people still use this feature so thank you Sony! I was overjoyed to see that a new spec-bar have optical! and also the ability to plug in USB-A. I have put the soundbar "through its paces" this past weekend and I really really like it. For the quality of the build, the updates (it's Sony!), and price - you can't go wrong!!!!

This soundbar packs a punch! I am thoroughly impressed by the sound and build quality of this Sony soundbar. The addition of Dolby Atmos puts this soundbar and system above the rest. I've used Dolby Atmos on gaming headsets and my phone also supports it but never on a soundbar. I don't think I can ever go back now! After unboxing and setting it up(which was pretty simple) I am in absolute awe of the sound quality. 360 Reality Audio is the best sounding system I have ever used. This alone is enough for me to recommend it to everyone I know. Setting it up with the optional speakers and subwhoofer was a breeze and just added to the sound experience. I watched Fast and Furious and The Hurt Locker with this sound system and I felt like I was watching these movies for the first time again. The build quality is also pleasing. The soundbar looks great on my shelf in front of my tv. It's slim enough that it doesn't hinder viewing at all. The rear speakers lay perfectly on the back of my couch at head level and I have the subwhoofer in the back corner of my living room tucked next to my couch. I think this is the perfect setup and allows for all over sound.

Over the years I've owned MANY sound bars. Many is an understatement. In my house at this moment I have at least 4 (5 now) plugged in and functioning sound bars of various makes and manufacturers. Each of them has their own pluses and minuses, however I was really looking forward to setting this one up. Unfortunately, disappointment ensued. To start, the packaging is much as you'd expect, the sound bar is nestled in a relatively nondescript long rectangular box with an image on the front of the bar and it is packed in Styrofoam. It comes with the remote, some documentation and an HDMI cable. On setup, the sound bar is seen by my Samsung TV and it switches to the input for it. There's a relatively simple setup process whereby it connects to WiFi, allows you to set up Alexa or Chromecast integration, and configures the 360 audio if you have the rear speakers and the sub (both of which are sold separately). The 360 audio setup is actually very cool, each of the speakers emits a series of tones which is picked up by the soundbar to allow it to adjust the audio for the room it is set up in. Then came the movie watching... For starters, I brought up Jurassic Park. Who can match the sweeping sounds of John Williams as the score for Jurassic Park is played directly after Dr Grant and Dr Sattler see the Brachiosaurus for the first time. The audio is... tinny. The conversation between the characters is flat. The review is for the soundbar, so I'll leave out too much commentary on the surround speakers and sub, but I have to say, that the surrounds are underutilized, and the subwoofer is boomy at best. But returning to the sound bar... much of the midrange is lost on the bar itself. John Williams lovely Jurassic Park score, which sounds good just because of what it is, loses a lot of its depth and fullness. As the movie continues, it just becomes more and more apparent that the mids are just way too weak in this sound bar, from the crunching branches as the T-Rex approaches, so the freight-train sound of its roar... All of it sounds too high and a little too flat. Watching TV is an even less impressive endeavor. All of the channels I watched the sound was flat and uninspired. There's not a whole lot in the way of customization for the audio for this sound bar, and cycling through the settings did not change the experience much. For the cost of the sound bar alone, it's a rather steep price for subpar sound, even once you add the wireless subwoofer, it cannot make up for the utter lack of midrange in the bar. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this, particularly at this price.

I tried out the HTA3000 sound bar for a week. I listened to movie audio, TV audio, and music audio. I came to the conclusion that there is insufficient ability to adjust audio parameters - no explicit EQ settings. There are center channel Voice settings, Sound Field setting button, etc., but I was not happy with the flexibility of the audio settings overall. I will say that the HTA3000 soundbar (and the add-on SA-SW3 sub woofer) were extremely easy to set up and integrate into my Sony single control system management. I connected these components to a Sony Bravia XR-77A80CK OLED TV. All the Sony components interoperate see\amlessly. I really wanted to like the Sony soundbar, but gave up on it after a week and returned it.
