I wanted the PS Portal when it initially released. With all the complaints and downfalls prior to the new update I was kind of glad I didn’t buy initially. Now that I can connect to Hotel and other public type networks and stream games I don’t own with cloud gaming (Requires PS Plus Premium) I’m overly satisfied with this device….only thing I wish worked was other media players like Netflix, YouTube that I have on my on PS5. Definitely something to own if you love gaming on the go!!!

This device is great. If your looking to play your playstation 5 games on the go this is the way to go. It works very well on a mobile hotspot running at the 5ghz speed. Paired with the pluse explore ear buds and you can game anywhere youd like as long as you have a connection.

This is the perfect dad gamer accessory. As a dad myself, the kids take all the TV time and its pretty rare for me to play games on TV. I usually have to play really early or really late when they are sleeping. The PS portal lets me game on the couch, toilet, or anywhere else in the house. Connect it to your phone’s hotspot to play elsewhere. The biggest downfall of this is that you can’t just connect any bluetooth headphones to it. You have to use Sony’s. Luckily I already have one. Its 2025, no one uses wired headphones anymore

The PlayStation Portal Remote Player offers a satisfactory streaming experience for PlayStation catalog titles; however, its functionality is unreliable when attempting to stream games directly from a PS5 console. The root cause, whether hardware or software-related, remains undetermined, as connection attempts frequently yield inconsistent results irrespective of network conditions.

But if you’ve done your research you can come to understand the value it has and from its overall functionality. Unfortunately, this device is not for everyone. As for me i love it, and appreciate it, and have value in owning one. While i love traditional gaming on a console, I also love gaming on handhelds . This device gives me the best of both worlds. Ive had fun playing Ghost of Tsushima, Kingdom Hearts FM, God of War 3; from in bed at night, my kitchen, and boldly enough from my bathroom. Its network dependant, and ive had a few issues due to their being excessive rain in my area but nothing that impedes me from playing and enjoying my games. The lag from my experience has been minimal and while i wont say its been near perfect. My experience has been highly positive. This has been a great investment for me. I’d encourage others to give it a chance. Just by doing your research and understanding it, you know if its truely for you or not.

The PS Portal is a pretty great accessory that might not be for everyone. I have only used this at home and for the majority of the time it works pretty great. does have some connection issues from. does hitch up playing more intensive games, but not that often.

Love being able to play this while my wife is using our living room TV. Makes it so much easier. The screen is beautiful and crystal clear but I feel like it’s not a comfortable to play like a regular controller or even the switch

This is a great addition to having a PS5. Streaming could service games as well direct from hardware works without a hitch. Have used in variety of internet scenarios, home/hotel/cell hotspot, without any major issues. Its great to play in places other then in front of the TV. Patio, travel, etc.

This thing blew away my expectations. After a few updates they added the ability to play games streaming from PS Plus without the need for a PS5 and that took it over the top. The wife and kids usually are using the TV so this allows me to play PS5 or classic games while they are watching TV.

The Portal was a neat concept but in the end, I ended up returning the device. My setup was a hard-wired Ethernet to PS5 and a higher-end tri band routers including WiFi 6E. I also have gigabit speed home internet. Unfortunately the Portal does not use anything above the 5ghz band however.
I tested remote play on my iPhone and MacBook Pro prior to preordering the portal to make sure my setup was optimal. After having nearly a flawless experience with those devices. I decided to pick up the portal for the integrated dualsense controls and large display.
I played multiple games but mainly focused on Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart and GT7. Both games worked ok but there was just a bit more input lag compared to other devices I’ve used. The connection would degrade significantly in Ratchet and Clank when any graphically intense scene with lots of moving items such as explosions. This made it unenjoyable to play these offline single player games. Playing any fast-past game online wasn’t even an option with the input lag.
I wish Sony would add more functionality to the device like being able to watch movies or play Spotify or even include a browser for Netflix or so you could log onto public WiFi like in hotels since I travel a lot.
As far as a subpar remote play device for use around the house, $200 felt like a bad value for this piece of tech.

Absolutely amazing device, with a few shortcomings. Nothing particularly intrusive that a device restart doesn't fix, but the PS Portal will occasionally be unable to find the PS5 for no particular reason. Once connected though, it really shines.
