It was cool, but it wasn't like a psp where you can just game anywhere. it requires wifi where ever you go to play. you can't really play any other games if you're not near your playstation

    PS PORTAL is Cool, but...

The Playstation Portal is a cool device allowing you to remote play your PS5 (if you have one) and enjoy cloud streaming of select games if you are using the Playstation Plus premium service. I would have loved it more if it also played my digitally purchased games from the Playstation Store as that would maximize it's value. Alas, no such luck. Perhaps Sony's upcoming handheld (circa 2026 Q4) will allow for such digital purchase playing along with it's dedicated games.

The PlayStation Portal is Sony's innovative response to the expanding market for portable gaming, targeted at providing a high-fidelity gaming experience on the go, directly competing with devices like the Nintendo Switch. Here's a detailed review of the PlayStation Portal, breaking down its design, performance, game library, and overall user experience. ### Design and Build Quality The PlayStation Portal features a sleek and ergonomic design that seems to prioritize comfort and durability. Its chassis is sturdy, likely made from a high-grade plastic with a matte finish that not only feels good in the hands but also minimizes fingerprints and smudges. The device boasts a large, vibrant screen that delivers crisp visuals, enhancing the immersive experience of high-resolution games. Button placement is thoughtful, with controls that feel responsive and are intuitively laid out, similar to a traditional PlayStation controller. ### Performance and Battery Life Under the hood, the PlayStation Portal is powered by a custom chipset capable of delivering near-console-level performance. This allows it to run more graphically intensive games that are usually reserved for home consoles. Load times are impressively short, and the gameplay is smooth, with consistent frame rates even in more demanding titles. Battery life, however, is a mixed bag. While Sony claims up to 8 hours of playtime, real-world usage tends to be closer to 5-6 hours when playing more intensive games, which is decent but may not suffice for long commutes or travel without access to a charger. ### Game Library and Compatibility One of the strongest selling points of the PlayStation Portal is its game library. It not only supports a vast array of new titles specifically designed for the device but also offers compatibility with a significant number of PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 games. This backward compatibility is a massive win for users who have already invested in PlayStation's ecosystem. Moreover, Sony has ensured that the Portal integrates seamlessly with the PlayStation Network for multiplayer gaming, digital downloads, and streaming services, making it a versatile device for all kinds of entertainment. ### Connectivity and Additional Features The PlayStation Portal includes various connectivity options like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and optional 4G or 5G capabilities. This ensures players can stay connected for multiplayer games and can also stream games from their console at home, leveraging Sony's Remote Play feature. The device also sports additional features like a built-in microphone, stereo speakers, and a headphone jack, enhancing the audio experience for both multiplayer communication and solo play. ### Price and Availability The pricing of the PlayStation Portal is competitive, considering its features and capabilities. It's positioned as a premium device but offers good value given its extensive library and high-end gaming potential. ### Conclusion Overall, the PlayStation Portal stands out as a powerful portable gaming device that successfully bridges the gap between handheld play and console experience. Its ergonomic design, robust game library, and solid performance make it a compelling choice for gamers looking to take their favorite games on the road. While battery life could be better and the price point may be steep for some, the PlayStation Portal delivers an unmatched portable gaming experience that could well justify the investment for serious gamers.

I’ve been using the PlayStation Portal since December and it was a Christmas gift to me , and overall, I’m very impressed. It’s a sleek, lightweight handheld that lets me play my PS5 games remotely with surprisingly low latency. The 8-inch LCD screen is bright and sharp, and the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers feel just like the DualSense controller, which really adds to the immersion. Setup was quick and easy—once connected to Wi-Fi, I was streaming games from my PS5 within minutes. Performance has been smooth on a solid connection, and it’s perfect for when someone else wants to use the TV or I want to game from another room or on road trips with the family

Portal not Portable - but Acceptable.

Overall solid device. Haven't put it through the gauntlet of fighting games but the experience was smooth on a 5GHz wireless connection so I would say performance is great. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because to make it a truly portable console you need an Ultimate PS subscription. Otherwise, you are pretty much just taking up a user slot on your PS5. I was thinking this would be useful to have my daughter play Minecraft on the Portal while I use the PS5 to play more intensive games but its essentially just a streaming device so I was better off getting her a switch or a tablet for the same price. Also, as nice as the screen is, the resolution and framrate of ps5 games are just not meant to be crammed into such a tiny display. However, being able to take it anywhere with a stable internet connection is definitely a plus. All the more reason to have a digital library so youre not anchored to whatever disc is currently loaded to your ps5. Solid choice, would only have suggested the ability to play one game offline (for those long airport flights) even if it would require the occasional reauthetication with your PS5 periodically to keep it active. Then it would get 5 stars!

Love the device. The screen size is percect for the device, not too big and bulky and anything smaller wouldnt show as nicely. The screen is a little dim compared to other portables like the SD OLED or the Switch OLED but it works if you’re playing at home like it’s meant to be played. The screen is beautiful for a basic IPS LED and the sound is really good for the what it is. The ability to be in a party also without needing headphones with this device is nice as its louder than the regular PS controller so if you don’t have the Explore or Elite headset, you can still have conversations without issue. I’ll touch back on that in a moment as that’s part of why it’s a con. The controls feel great, the vibration and adaptive triggers are amazing for a mobile device, even more so than I expected. There are some cons to this device. The fact that they disabled bluetooth and require proprietary technology to listen and talk on it is a little ridiculous, especially given the insane price of the explore earbuds (the same price as this accessory). If the earbuds were half the price, I wouldn’t mind so much. But that really detracts since they’re uncomfortable to begin with and you require changing the eartips out almost immediately with third party ones. Another little gripe of mine is the smaller joycon style thumbsticks. It’s nice that it’s easier to fit into a bag but most people who are using this device probably aren’t taking this mobile, as I’ve tried that with mine which is wired to the router at 940 Mbps and still had issues outside of the home. Granted it was on a 5G UW hotspot but it kept disconnecting rather than just latency so I ended up not even trying anymore. I also wanted to watch some of the entertainment apps from the PS but they were disabled for remote play, so don’t expect to watch movies from this. As for the middle button/touchpad from the Dualshock 4 and DualSense controllers, its a big finicky to learn it when playing a game that requires fast movement. You gave to double tap the middle screen in a specific spot very rapidly for it to register and for a game that is PvP it isn’t something I would recommend. But overall for regular playing and for even games like Elden Ring, Like A Dragon, or Spider-Man 2 this is an amazing addition if you aren’t near your TV or have something else on at the time. I would give this a 9/10 for it’s quality and would recommend to anyone with the cash to spend on it if they don’t already have a remote play phone with gamepad like the Backbone or Kishi V2. Even then, I’d still say this has some promise those don’t for remote playing. If you are on the fence about it and like to remote play PC/Steam games, Xbox games, or even PS games from your phone but want a solid device? This is it. Also if you think the Chiaki4Deck is as good and steady even with a wired connection for the SD, think again. I love using my SDs for many things but when it comes to remote playing the PlayStation? There’s too many bugs out there which cause complete game crashes, app crashes, and I wouldn’t recommend that until it gets solved. That being said, rejoice handheld gamers! We have another device for our collection! It’s not quite a Vita but something inbetween so its just enough to be there but you will enjoy it for what it does and what it is.

These were very hard to find in stock so I was very elated to finally get one. Out of the box the device looks and feels very sleek. It’s probably the most comfortable handheld gaming device I’ve ever held. If you like the the PS5 controller you’ll feel right at home. The screen is the perfect size and looks very vibrant. Be mindful of where you sit because it picks up alot of glare from lighting or the sun which makes it hard to see. The sound is very ample and there is a 3.5mm headphone jack. The one thing I noticed was when I first started playing a game, it seemed the there was some latency. I have very fast internet at home, but for some reason the games weren’t running as well as I thought they should. So I went online and saw that there was a tip of unplugging the hdmi cable from your PS5 when playing the PS Portal. Make sure to unplug it before you turn on the ps5 from the portal. To my surprise it worked and the Portal was running games great. The solution is kind of a nuisance, but did not ruin the experience. Overall, this is not the Playstation portable experience we’ve all been waiting for like a new PSVita, but if you own a PS5, I think this is a peripheral that while not essential, is very enjoyable, practical, and complimentary device for the system. For the price i’m very satisfied with it.

I've had the PS Portal for quite some time now and finally decided to share my thoughts on the device. At first, I didn't think I'd be much of a fan of it. Probably used every now and then but it's quickly become more of a preferred way of gaming for me. Comfort (5/5) This thing feels great in the hand, just like many others have said, it feels like like a bigger PS5 controller which is great. Probably the best handheld for ergonomics to use compared to something like a Steam Deck or Legion Go. I have zero issues using this for hour plus play sessions. Screen (4/5) It's no OLED display but for a standard LCD screen it does the job. Screen size obviously being the main factor but it does get decently bright and I have no issues with it. My main use case scenario is indoors so I can't really comment on outside use. Sound (3/5) Not much to say here about the speakers but they're just decent as you'd expect. The lack of Bluetooth support though for other headphones outside of Sony's offering is definitely a bummer though. Connectivity (4/5) For this, I feel like YMMV but for me it works well. Using the Orbi WiFi 6E mesh router setup with symmetrical gigabit fiber internet, PS5 hardwired to the router and I get zero stutters or image quality reduction during play. I've tried it a few time on 5G LTE mobile hotspot and performance is a hit or miss depending on your reception. I wouldn't say it's ideal. Enjoyment (5/5) I would say the main use case scenario for this is being able to play PS5 content in any room of your house. I think it's a joy to be able to play while on the couch watching a sports game, in bed relaxing or sitting in the office kicking back. This is definitely the type of use it was intended for and it wins in this area. Overall, if you like gaming in comfort at home then I'd say this is probably for you. Outside of that it might vary as I don't intend on taking this on the go. If there is one drawback to this device then for me it's definitely the lack of Bluetooth support. I'd like to use my own earbuds as they most definitely sound better than the proprietary earbuds offered but the speakers do just fine for me.
