great for remote play
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got this to be able to use when i want to play remotely, been pleasantly suprised with it. the screen is bright and clear. the device is comfortable in my hands, its not heavy. the only downside i have noticed to it, are with games that use the button on the touchpad of a normal ps4/ps5 controller. ive not yet noticed a way to use that button on the Portal, ive only tried one game and it had otherways to get to the section that i needed to go to (the touchpad button was a shortcut to a map) other than this, i have loved everything about this device.

Hardware Triumph, Connectivity Flop
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Hardware and Ergonomics: A Flawless Design Where the Portal excels is in its physical design. The device is essentially a DualSense controller split in half, cradling a large, beautiful 8-inch LCD screen. This approach provides an immediate and immense advantage over using a smartphone or tablet for Remote Play: it delivers the full, uncompromised DualSense experience, complete with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. The build quality is excellent, feeling sturdy and premium in the hands, and the familiar controller shape makes for an incredibly comfortable and ergonomic long-session gaming experience. Furthermore, the screen is bright, vibrant, and displays HD content cleanly. When the connection is stable, games look great on this display, and the seamless integration of PS5 controls makes it feel like a true first-party handheld. Connectivity and Performance: The Major Shortfall Unfortunately, the Portal is hampered by the very thing it was designed to do: stream games over a network. My testing revealed significant issues, both locally and remotely. Attempting to play outside of the home using a 5G mobile hotspot resulted in a horrible experience. The connection quality was consistently poor, characterized by pixelation, stuttering, and input lag that made the device effectively unplayable for any title requiring quick reactions. Even at home, where my PS5 was connected via a LAN cable to a high-speed router, and the Portal was on the same optimal Wi-Fi network, the performance still underwhelmed. While the resolution issues could sometimes be overlooked, the unbearable input lag made competitive games, especially FPS titles, frustrating. This fundamental lag undermines the excellent hardware, turning fast-paced gameplay into a sluggish, unresponsive chore. The final drawback lies in its use case for a dedicated desk setup. Since the PS5 is already right next to the PC, there is no compelling reason to grab the Portal over simply sitting down and playing on the console natively. Moreover, the Portal's dependence on mirroring the PS5 means that games owned physically must still be loaded and mirrored, offering no true convenience over local play for those who are already nearby. Verdict The PlayStation Portal is a great piece of kit for the right audience, delivering the best portable control experience available for PS5 games. However, its complete reliance on Remote Play, coupled with the persistent, noticeable input lag—even on ideal home networks—prevents it from being a must-buy. It’s a niche device that sacrifices performance for portability, which is why it receives 3 out of 5 stars. 3/5 Stars A beautifully designed device marred by the limitations of streaming.

PlayStation Portal Review – A Surprisingly Handy P
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wasn’t sure what to expect from the PlayStation Portal. At first glance, it looks like someone split a DualSense controller in half and slapped a screen in the middle—and honestly, that’s pretty much what it is. But after spending some time with it, I’ve got to say: it’s way more useful than I thought. Setup was easy. As long as your PS5 is on and connected to Wi-Fi, the Portal streams your games right to its 8-inch screen. The display isn’t OLED, but it’s crisp, bright, and surprisingly vivid. I’ve played everything from Spider-Man 2 to Hogwarts Legacy on it, and the visuals hold up well. No major lag or stuttering, as long as your home network is solid. The real win here is the controls. It feels just like using a regular PS5 controller—adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, all the good stuff. No weird button layouts or awkward grips. It’s familiar, which makes jumping into a game feel seamless. Battery life is decent. I’ve gotten around 6–8 hours depending on what I’m playing. Charging is quick, though the port placement is a little odd—it’s tucked underneath, which can be annoying if you’re using a stand. Now, it’s not perfect. You can’t stream games from the cloud, and it only works over Wi-Fi (no cellular). So if you were hoping to take it on the road and play from a hotel or café, you’ll need a strong connection and your PS5 powered on at home. It’s definitely more of a “play around the house” device than a true portable console. Bottom line: If you’re deep into the PlayStation ecosystem and want a way to keep gaming when the TV’s taken—or just want to lounge on the couch without hogging the big screen—the Portal is a solid companion. It’s not a must-have, but once you’ve got it, you’ll find yourself reaching for it more than you expected

Honest Review
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The PlayStation Portal is honestly pretty awesome if you want to play your PS5 without being glued to the TV. It feels just like holding a DualSense controller with a big, bright screen stuck in the middle — in a good way. The controls are legit, the haptics feel great, and it’s super comfy to use for a long time. When your Wi-Fi is solid, the Portal works really well. Games look good, the connection feels smooth, and it’s perfect for chilling on the couch, in bed, or basically anywhere in the house. The catch? It only streams from your PS5. No apps, no cloud gaming, and you can’t even use normal Bluetooth headphones — you need PlayStation Link for wireless audio.

Worth it!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had this on the wishlist for awhile. After watching plenty of reviews and having a $100 gift card, I decided to buy this. It is easy to set up. Connect WiFi and make sure your PS5 has remote play enabled. It can also play physical games as long as the disc is inside the PS5. It is a great alternative when you want to play PS5 games in handheld mode. Especially when the TV is being used by someone else. Definitely worth the purchase!

Awsome
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The PlayStation Portal completely changed the way I game. I can sink into my favorite PS5 titles anywhere—whether I’m lounging on the couch, in bed, or even while the TV is in use. The controls feel exactly like my DualSense, the display is gorgeous and vibrant, and the connection is so smooth it feels like I’m right on my console. It’s not just convenient—it’s pure freedom for a gamer. Every time I pick it up, it reminds me why I love PlayStation and why Best Buy is my go-to spot for the best tech experiences.

Surprisingly Good
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The PS portal surprised me with how much I actually use it. It's perfect for when the TV is in use and it connects fairly easily so I can play even if I can't use the TV I have it hooked up to. It does occasionally struggle to connect due to you have to be fully signed into the console first but most of the time it only takes two or three tries to get it to connect.

Good for playing at home away from the console
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a good bang for your buck if you plan to play at home. The ability to play anywhere in the house is very nice. You will want to hardwire the console to prevent any lag. Feels nice in the hands and the screen is very clear.

Ps portal review
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The PlayStation Portal is a sleek $199 handheld designed for streaming your PS5 games over Wi-Fi. It features a crisp 8” 1080p LCD screen and full DualSense controls—including adaptive triggers and haptic feedback—built right into the device. While it doesn’t run games locally and requires a PS5 and stable internet, it delivers smooth, low-latency remote play with excellent image quality. Battery life is around 4–5 hours, and while it lacks Bluetooth audio, it supports wired headphones and Sony’s PS Link. If you want to keep gaming when someone else is using the TV, the Portal is a convenient, well-made companion.

Ps portal review
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ive had my portal for over 3 months already and i most say i love it. I really like the convenience of chilling in the living room with my family and while they’re watching a movie im keeping up with my games. One thing i would recommend is buying a airfly pro 2 aux bluetooth adapter and just use your ear buds im using my airpods pro2 cuz being able to turn of and on the noise canceling is awesome. Also i would definitely recommend to connect your ps5 via Ethernet for a wayyy more stable connection. Also all your saved data on console back it up in the cloud cuz its usable on games that you can stream. The issues that i have came up with is easily fixable sometimes when i try to remote play on different ps5 it wont connect all you have to do is press and hold the power on the portal till you see restart and that fixes the problem right away. The other is that when im watching something (crunchyroll) on either one of my ps5’s and then try to play a game on the portal it will give a error. All you have to do to fix that is close out any opened video apps before you remote play a game. Other than that its pretty freaking awesome would recommend

PSP is Great as was Beat Buy Service
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great performance and excellent service at Best Buy. As soon as I walked in someone asked if I needed assistance and proceeded to get my online order for me to check out. Ordered some online and picked up same day. Wonderful experience! Product feels solid in my hands and buttons all work great as does the touch screen even with a call screen protector applied. Charging port is difficult to access but that is a very minor issue. Wish battery life was longer but with max brightness and volume I guess that is to be expected a bit (3-4 hrs playtime est.)

Thrives in certain scenarios, but can’t do it all
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The PS Portal is, by a lot of definitions, a solid device. It’s essentially built like a dualsense with a tablet sandwiched in between the sides and is largely comfortable to use. The big notice with this thing is that Sony’s protocol for connecting to your PS5 is…imperfect to say the least. Bottom line, I find this thing works great for stuff like sports games, card games, some indie games, or other types of games that don’t super heavily rely on precision timing. The input delay introduced through remote play is passable, but I wouldn’t dare use it to play any FPS or even some more difficult platformers. All in all, it has its uses, and if your use case aligns with the mentioned scenarios above, I’d recommend it.

Awesome Handheld!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We bought the PlayStation Portal mainly so my son could keep playing his PS5 when he has sleepovers at his grandparents’ or friends’ houses. Mission accomplished he literally packs it like it’s another limb now. The fact that he can just pick up and play his saved games on the big TV at home the second he walks back in the door (no cloud saves or anything to mess with) is pure magic for him. Streaming quality has been rock-solid on our home Wi-Fi and even holds up pretty well on my parents’ decent-but-nothing-special internet. The screen looks fantastic, battery life easily gets him through an evening + morning of Fortnite and Roblox without needing a charge, and the built-in controller feels exactly like a real DualSense.

more useful with cloud streaming, still caveats
||Posted . Owned for 10 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The PlayStation Portal is a fantastic way to bring PS5 gaming off the TV. The 8-inch display is bright and sharp, controls feel familiar (DualSense-style triggers and sticks), and setup is painless — it really does feel like a handheld PS5. With the recent addition of cloud streaming, the Portal has become even more flexible: you can play games without needing your PS5 powered on or even in the same house (where cloud service is available), which is perfect for travel or when someone else is using the TV. That said, some real-world limits remain. Cloud streaming means the Portal is now much more dependent on your network — on unreliable Wi-Fi or limited cellular hotspots you’ll notice lag, compression, or stuttering. Expect higher data usage (cloud play can chew through GBs fast), and a steady, low-latency connection is required for a great experience. Battery life still isn’t amazing during long sessions, and if you plan to use it away from Wi-Fi you’ll want to watch data caps. Also, headset/voice-chat support is more limited than a full PS5 setup — check compatibility for the headset you plan to use.
