The connection is horrible. I have to be right next to my ps5 for it to work. Takes multiple attempts to start share play. Not worth $200 imo. I contacted my internet provider to see if that was the issue and they confirmed it wasn't.

Bought this before I had the chance to do more research. Even if you enjoy the remote play experience and can deal with the lag, the lack of bluetooth, mediocre battery, and worst of all the inability to connect with most public wifi due to not being able to accept Terms of Service (Portal doesn't have an internet browser) is a major letdown. Only buy this if you like the aesthetics and mostly want to remote play in your house.

This thing is perfect for me…… when it works. I have great internet and this thing always lags. If you were to use Playstations recommended network speeds im sure ot would be unplayable. Anyone who says this is a good device is either payed by playstation or just easily pleased. Id recommend not getting this wate of money.

Unfortunately not worth the $216.49 system has horrible connection issues. Hopefully PlayStation releases an update to fix this issue till then id recommend waiting 2-3 months before purchasing item. Also can ONLY be played if you OWN a playstation 5 so id recommend just saving up & purchasing the PS5 instead.

Its ok connecting to your PS5 while its in rest mode is terrible it wont work. Connecting via different wifi will also not work. When it finally does manage to connect image is running at old school 180p if your connection is good then you have better resolution if youre lucky enough. Games are ok theres a delay on the triggers and the analog sticks so far not really worth the money you get the same terrible experience with the backbone just for 100$ cheaper and better availability with the backbone so far xbox cloud gaming takes it all play station can’t compete when it comes to mobile gaming…… REMEMBER THIS IS ONLY A SCREEN MIRRORING DEVICE ITS NOT CLOUD GAMING SORRY

I am torn giving it 1 star. I just feel it deserves that. I went wired connection ps5. I honestly think I had a good connection as well. It is just not good. I was very hopeful. Controls were great! Screen really pops on cut scenes. It works with disc in PS5. Its just the gameplay is where it suffers big in my opinion which is the main point. The motion blur gave me a headache. Lag in Mortal Kombat made it hard to tether moves. I do feel some games would be fine on here. I just don't want to limit what games I can play on this. I tried a handful of other games with same results. Will be returning, instead of jacking up the price and selling on the marketplace.

This product arrived with the seals torn and box clearly already opened. Best buy refused to give a discount on this open box item and instead advised me to return it. I have 10 more days to return it and there is no stock kn stores to exchange it with and best buy was not able to reserve me one to swap with the used one they sent me. Absolutely ridiculous. 5 stars as I recommend this product but I don't recommend buying anything from Best buy, get it anywhere else if you can.

I waited quite a while for this release and it was a birthday gift to myself, but sadly I was disappointed. I had to return mine after the 2nd use. It won't turn on and it would not charge. I tried reaching out to Sony but never got a hold of any—queued 160th person in line. Also, I don't like the fact that my PS needs to be on, just so I can play (via wifi). So yeah, as much as a big PS fan. I need to pass on this one. Nothing beats playing on a 77" OLED TV.

    Casual gamer review

I (32M) would recommend this thing to any of my friends especially Dads/new Dads. That is what I am now (humble brag) and obviously my gaming time is now limited. Not that I am huge gamer, mostly just Friday night sessions with the boys on Warzone/BF6. I bought the Portal for those little pockets of time in between feedings, naps, and everything being cleaned to play some single player storymode games. I read the reviews and would agree when trying BF6 online that there is a slight input delay. It's definitely still playable but even a simp like myself can notice it. (For the record, I have a big dog TP Link Archer Wifi router. My PS5 is not hardwired and running on the Wifi as well.) I've been playing RDR2, Hogwarts Legacy, Roadcraft, and GT7. It runs those games flawlessly. It is insanely convenient to be able to play those games on the couch, or in bed and not be tied down to my gaming station. I was looking at them when they went on sale for $179.99 but thought otherwise, because I am an idiot. Anyway, bought for full price a week after the sale.... $200 is still not a bad price for what you get, considering Scuffs and the hardcore Playstation controllers are the same price if not more. It is a perfect in between because I don't game enough to spend the money on a Steam deck (or travel enough) and I already have a PS5 to remote play from. I have not tried it away from home on a different Wifi network or on Playstation Plus cloud gaming, so take my review with a grain of salt on those aspects. The familiarity with the controller and a solid LCD screen makes this thing a sweet little weapon in the casual gamers hands. I'd give it a 4.5/5 because of the tiny input delay while trying to play a FPS online, but I also understand that for the price point, there is only so much tech/power Sony is probably willing to put into it.

I got the PlayStation Portable (PSP) for my son, and it’s been a fantastic purchase. It’s compact, easy to carry around, and perfect for gaming on the go. The graphics are surprisingly good for a handheld system, and the gameplay is smooth. He’s been enjoying classic PlayStation titles, racing games, and even watching movies on it. The battery life is decent, and we love that it can also connect to Wi-Fi for certain games and updates. It’s also great that it supports memory cards so he can store his favorite games and progress without worry. As a parent, I appreciate the durable design and the wide range of age-appropriate games available. It’s been a great way for him to enjoy entertainment responsibly, and it’s something we even play together sometimes. Definitely recommend it for kids who love gaming, especially if you’re looking for a reliable, affordable portable system.

I am disappointed that you can't play 1 person shooting games or certain games for that matter. This remote player is a waste. PSP I'm waiting for now. I rather be able to travel with my system handheld then carrying the whole system plus the remote portal.

A Game-Changer for Portable PlayStation Gaming

I recently picked up the PS Portal, and I’m absolutely loving it! As a fan of portable gaming, I was excited to try out Sony’s take on a handheld device that works seamlessly with the PlayStation ecosystem, and it does not disappoint. The display is stunning—crisp, vibrant, and clear, making it ideal for gaming on the go. The controls are well-placed and feel comfortable in the hands, even during extended play sessions. The feel of the device is premium, and despite being compact, it offers an ergonomic design that’s easy to hold for long periods. One of the standout features for me is how effortlessly it pairs with my PlayStation 5, allowing me to stream games from my console in high quality with minimal lag. Whether I’m playing AAA titles or indie games, the experience feels surprisingly close to playing on a TV. The remote play functionality works flawlessly, and I’ve had no issues with connectivity, even when I’m a few rooms away from my PS5. The battery life is decent, lasting a few hours of continuous gaming, though it can vary depending on the intensity of the games you’re playing. The charging is also quick, which is convenient for short sessions. Overall, the PS Portal is an impressive device, combining portability with powerful performance. It’s perfect for gamers who want to keep playing when they’re away from their console. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to enhance their gaming experience on the go!

Can’t be used unless your ps5 is on , can’t be used outside even if p5 is on. Can’t be used if on different WiFi from ps5. It’s literally just a controller with a screen.

This product was a great idea, relatively compact, high-quality, awesome display. I even loved the fact that it was based on the dual sense controller, but that is where the good news ends. Activity on this device is poor at best. I have 500mb Internet in my home. I sat on my couch, 5 feet from the Wi-Fi router and about 8 feet from the PS5, which was hardwired to the router and the lag made gameplay unbearable. It was even worse when traveling. I would leave in my PS5 turned on and connected to the Internet. And then try to connect from a remote location with equally fast Internet, and the device would barely connect much less be playable. I sincerely hope that Sony can’t get these connection issues worked out because this will be a great alternative to lugging my PlayStation around with me when I travel for work. All of this said, I must go back to the beginning and say that the build quality is exceptional, feels great in hand with a stunning display. Just needs better, connectivity and better support on the PlayStation network.

Early impressions — PS5 remote play accessory

I’m the target audience for this niche PS5 accessory — 1) handheld to hang with my wife while she watches bad TV shows like 90-day fiancee :) 2) device solely to play remotely from my PS5 because I prefer the compressed video via Wi-Fi to play my existing game library at good quality (without having to buy a new handheld device + new games). I’ve used remote via iPhone (wished for a larger screen) & Logi G Cloud ($100-150 more for apps / aging Android tablet I don’t want). This is straight forward, connects to my PS5 & replicates the experience on a handheld with great controls (+ haptic feedback) anywhere there’s a strong Wi-Fi. I have tested several single player sports games (NBA 2K24, Madden 24 & MLB The Show 23 + Gran Turismo 7) & best remote experience I’ve had to date. If experience remains the same ongoing, this is a Home Run for me (it’s target audience). For reference, my PS5 is connected via Ethernet to my LAN. I tested PSP at home Wi-Fi (great) & away using my iPhone as a hot spot (surprisingly good). If device not having bluetooth is a contributing factor, yay! (otherwise nay — can use built-in speakers, wired headset or proprietary wireless earbuds). Screen is very nice LCD, feels like OLED. Size a huge plus (8 inches). Used for 3-4 hours & battery 2/3 bars remain. Feels comfortable. Does not let you play PS5 video apps — ie Nexflix (just games). If you like PS5 remote play & want the best experience, this is for you. It’s the best for that. It’s a PS5 accesory just for that. This is my experience early on, user experience may vary depending on your Wi-Fi connection. Hope this helped those that are interested.

We bought the PlayStation Portal mainly so my son could keep playing his PS5 when he has sleepovers at his grandparents’ or friends’ houses. Mission accomplished he literally packs it like it’s another limb now. The fact that he can just pick up and play his saved games on the big TV at home the second he walks back in the door (no cloud saves or anything to mess with) is pure magic for him. Streaming quality has been rock-solid on our home Wi-Fi and even holds up pretty well on my parents’ decent-but-nothing-special internet. The screen looks fantastic, battery life easily gets him through an evening + morning of Fortnite and Roblox without needing a charge, and the built-in controller feels exactly like a real DualSense.
